Welcome Message from Coach Beers
Greetings from Coach Beers
March 23, 2011 — WELCOME and INTRODUCTIONS!

Hello. I would like to welcome each one of you to FYBA Coach Pitch (8-U) 2011. I just wanted to take a moment and let you know that I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach your player this year. This is our fourth season together as the Bulldogs and we’ll be returning a number of players from last year’s team. We have also picked up a number of new players (3 total) and we welcome you to our team! My name is Coach Beers (aka Shane to the parents). My wife (Jennifer) and I live in Windmill Farms (Phase II) and I have been a Forney resident for 9 years. Jennifer (drafted as one of the Team Moms – other mothers are also welcome to help out if you have the time) is a 2nd Grade teacher at SMITH ELEMENTARY and we have 4 children. My experience is mainly through playing sports all of my life. Baseball was my college choice and then when I became too old, I started playing softball while in the Navy. I was head coach of the Bulldogs in 2008, 2009 and 2010 (Spring and Fall) and have assisted in T-Ball one year prior to that. I have coached girl’s fast-pitch softball for 4 years (my oldest daughter’s team). Our assistant coaches who will be on the field are Shane Cranford, Bryan Kelly, Drew Pritchett, JoeBill Andress (and others) but all parents are considered our assistant coaches as well! Samantha Kelly has also volunteered to be a Team Mom.

While things are in the process of being finalized (schedules, uniform pricing, etc.) here’s a list of items that may be useful in helping your child understand the game and progress this year:

• Watch a baseball game or two on television and try to explain things (where’s home plate, 1st base, etc.)
• Grab a training tape or dvd and let him watch some of the segments (I know, keeping their attention for more than 10 minutes can be difficult)
• Equipment needed for practicing:
- Glove, Bat, 2 Balls, Batting Helmet, Cleats.
- Optional: Cup (mandatory for catchers) Bat Bag, Sliders, Batting Gloves.

We look forward to meeting you and working with you and your child this year. The main purpose for this initial letter is just to introduce myself and give you my information so that you can contact me with any questions. You can call me at any time on my cell: 214.206.5616 or at home 469.762.5065. My email address is mike.beers@melitconsulting.com (my first name is “Michael”). Let’s have a good time and PLAY BALL! Go Bulldogs!

- Coach Beers
