LEAGUE INFORMATION:
Frederick Horseshoe Pitchers Association League – Summer 2009
The Frederick Horseshoe Pitchers Association will conduct a horseshoe-pitching league at the Maryvale Park courts on West Patrick Street, across from West Frederick Middle School in Frederick. The league is open to pitchers of all ages and skill levels, and new pitchers are encouraged to participate.
The league format will be as follow:
1. The league will run for 15 weeks, from Monday, May 11th through Monday, August 24th (excluding Memorial Day).
2. Pitching will begin at 7:00 p.m. Every attempt will be made to begin games on time. Late arrivals will forfeit their scheduled game(s) resulting in a game(s) “Loss” in league standings.
3. Game format will be 50 shoes, ringers only, all ringers count. Ties will be broken by pitching an extra inning (down and back). Handicap scoring (90%) will be utilized, with handicaps recalculated weekly.
4. Players will be scheduled to pitch three games on each scheduled league night.
5. Competition will be singles.
6. This league is sanctioned by the NHPA, and NHPA rules and regulations apply. All participants must be members of the NHPA, MDHPA and the FHPA (membership dues are $16 for adults, $5 for juniors).
7. Prizes and awards will be presented at an end-of-season banquet or picnic, date to be announced.
8. League standings will be calculated on percentage of wins, with a minimum of 33 games required, maximum of 45 games allowed. Minimum is subject to change due to excessive league night cancellations for inclement weather.
9. Sign-up and practice will be held on Mon., May 4th from 6:30 to 8 pm at the courts. All players should be signed up, pre-qualified if required, and have paid the initial dues prior to the May 12th start date.
10. League dues, which are in addition to NHPA/FHPA membership dues, are $60 for adults ($76 total), and $40 for juniors ($45 total). Dues are payable at sign-up. As a bonus, pitchers will receive a 50/50 ticket for each league night in attendance (must be present to participate and to win.) Any pitcher who has not paid in full will forfeit any awards, and may not participate in future leagues until all past dues are paid.
11. Any pitcher who cannot pitch on a scheduled league night should notify the league director in advance, if at all possible. Except for emergencies, an unexcused no-show on league night will result in the forfeiture (Loss) of all scheduled games.
12. Due to City Ordinance, Alcoholic beverages are not authorized on or near the courts.
13. Awards will be presented at a banquet on or about October 27th, 2008.

FREDERICK HORSESHOE PITCHERS ASSOCIATION 2009 PITCHING SCHEDULE
The FHPA will be hosting six sanctioned tournaments this year. Tournaments are open to anyone holding a valid 2009 NHPA membership card. Membership cards will be available for purchase during the registration period prior to all open tournaments. The courts are located at Maryvale Park on West Patrick Street, across from Frederick Middle School, in Frederick, MD.
All tournaments, with the exception of the MD State which requires pre-registration, are open, with registration from 8-9:00 a.m. and an anticipated start time of 10:00 a.m. The schedule is as follows:
Sat, May 2 FHPA Veterans Memorial
Sat June 6 East Coast Tournament
Sat, July 11 Esterly-Keilholtz Memorial
Sat, Aug 1 Boss Hoss Cycle Toss
Sat., Sept. 5 Maryland State Tournament of Champions (pre-registered)
Sat, Oct 3 Frederick Invitational
The MD State Doubles Tournament will be hosted by Baltimore Metro in Essex on August 15th. Pitchers in State tourneys must be MD residents and requires participation in a minimum of two sanctioned events (one for juniors) in the 12-months prior to the Tournaments.
Entry Fee for Frederick tournaments (except the MD State) is $20. No refunds. If scorekeepers are available, each pitcher will pay them $1.00 per game. All are encouraged to assist with scorekeeping when not pitching.
Concession stand and bathroom facilities will be available at all tournaments. Alcoholic beverages are not authorized in the park.
Parking in the China Gardens parking lot must be ONLY along the perimeter (others may be towed). Additional parking is available across the street at the Frederick Middle School and behind the park on Mary Street. ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING IS ALLOWED ON THE GRASS IN THE PARK.
Rain dates for all tournaments will be the Sunday immediately following the scheduled date.
