Expansion of the Softball Program
Erik Brueningsen, Matt Weiss, and Ed Angelbello met with representatives from the Parks and Recreation Department to discuss plans for the expansion of the softball program at Holiday Park. The lack of facilities for girls fast-pitch softball in Fort Lauderdale has prompted a review of options. The proposal that is actively being considered includes provisions for three softball fields at Holiday Park.
These modifications will allow for an expansion of the program and thus eliminates a cap on player participation. Teams will have expanded field availability and greater options for practice times and game day preparations.
12U Champions of the Plantation Fall Classic
November 19, 2006
An incredible fifth weekend of competitive fast pitch softball for the Lightning family. After a two win start on Saturday, the Lightning faltered in their first game on Sunday. The Lightning was defeated early and dropped into the losers bracket on day two of the tournament. After 33 1/2 innings of consecutive non-stop softball games the Lightning emerged with five victories against one loss on Sunday including double victories in the finals bracket to earn the championship in the Plantation Fall Classic. A dedicated and enthusiastic group of young ladies used their athleticism and conditioning to reach their desired goal of a championship tournament victory. Their hard work throughout this fall season paid off as the sixth and final game of the day was completed 10.5 hours after their game one preparations.
Natalie gets a boost from Coach Ed
But before we forget ....... the player of the tournament NATALIE ! She pitched 16 innings (12 innings on Sunday) and had a 3-0 record. She dominated the final game against the Pressure. To secure the final championship game, the Lightning did not allow a single Plantation Pressure runner to reach beyond first base safely !! The Lightning faced no more than 4 Plantation batters in any of the six innings of the Championship game. In the final weekend tournament, the Lightning outscored their opponents by the score of 57-13. The team finished 7-1 in the final weekend.

Ali and Emilie won the team homerun run derby challenge, and Ali brought the tournament homerun derby title to Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale Lightning 10U Lalonde
A young but determined 10U team participated in the Plantation Fall Classic in 2006. Coach Marc Lalonde practiced hard with the team throughout the fall season. Many of the kids had not played travel ball before, however, they stuck together and improved their game throughout the season. Watch out for this group of players, they are the next batch of champions for the Lightning program. Way to go girls ! You look great !
