GDWL Disbanded After 9 Years of Playing
It is with great disappointment that I announce that the league is no more. We have all simply grown too occupied and busy to dedicate the necessary time and effort into making this league functional. After a horrible start to the 2008 season we went on a hiatus that lasted until 2010 when we came back and had our most successful season ever. 2011 just wasn't meant to top 2010, I suppose. We gave it a good run. I started a prototype to this league in 2001 in my parents' front yard with my younger brother, niece, & nephew. I had no idea that it would grow to a modestly sized league that would gain a little national attention here and there. I've presided over this league for 9 years and have put time, money, & effort to make this league last as long as it has. I will no longer pour such intensity into this project and surrender to the league's inevitable fate. As much as I'd enjoy playing forever that simply cannot happen. I cherish all the years that we've played together and sincerely thank anyone who ever played at any point in the league during our history. Do not mistake this farewell as a hiatus. The league is gone for good now. Sure, we'll try to have a pickup game once or twice a summer if possible but there will be no regular games of any type because the level of participation needed simply is not there. However this sounds I am not laying blame to anyone in particular. It's all of us - we are adults now - we are busy. This website was once cleared of all content in order to focus on the newer website that was created in 2007. The content that was originally part of this site is gradually being restored. In the coming year all statistics that are able to be found throughout the years will be uploaded and video taken from this season will be edited and uploaded as well. This website will hopefully serve as a place where all the participants can come and look up their stats, flip through some photographs, and watch a video or two and remember what we did here for nearly a decade. I've had a wonderful time playing with you all and hope that you had nearly as much fun as I did.
Yours truly,
Josh Smith Commissioner of the Garrett Drive Wiffleball league
