2012 GGSA/GCBL CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT
The 4th Annual GGSA/GCBL Cornhole Tournament is in the books and if high
caliber players is what you were looking for, this years group didn't
disappoint. The players were from all over the region which included players
from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia.
After finishing second to Matt & Brett Guy both Alexandria, Kentucky natives
last year, Dale Smith of Campbellsville, Kentucky, and Steve Vanderver of
Norwood, Ohio, jumped up to take the top prize in the high stakes tournament
held at Paws Bingo Hall in Greenville, Saturday, February 25th.
Two-time champion, Chris Hobbs of Eaton, and Jim Horton of Hamilton, Ohio,
finished second this year. Hobbs has now made it into the championship match
three of the four years the tournament has been held here in Greenville.
Finishing third was the team of Rex Uhrig of Circleville, Ohio, and Cody
Henderson of Jackson, Ohio.
Finishing fourth were the defending champions in the team of Matt and Brett
Guy of Alexandria, Kentucky. Both players are highly ranked players with
Matt Guy being the #1 ranked player in the current World Rankings.

Christy Hole, Chris Hayes, Todd Bruner, Brett Sackett, and Keith Heidrich,
all of Greenville. Also, Chris Price of Bradford.
25 players competed in the Singles Tournament while a total of 23 teams
competed in the Doubles Tournament.
A format change was the talk of the tournament this year as both a
double-elimination singles tournament and a double-elimination doubles
tournament were held.
It is very likely that next year the tournament will be broken into two
separate tournaments including "competitive" and "social" divisions with
participants only allowed to enter one or the other. This should separate
the highly competitive "pro" players and the social/local players, leveling
the playing field for everyone.
