2009 Midnight Madness Tournament

Grevey's Softball had an excellent tournament and finished in 3rd Place.  There were 45 teams entered in this years tournament.  Our first game started at 10pm Saturday night and our last game ended at 3pm Sunday.   We started out just like last year finishing undefeated in our bracket play.  The bracket is a four game round robin and the 2 teams with the best record advance to the Championship Bracket.  Coming out of our bracket we played one of the better teams in the tournament and we put on a hitting clinic.  It was probably the best we have ever hit.  We took the victory and moved on.  After the game we had to pack up camp and move to another field to continue our march towards the championship.  We had a long break between game 5 and 6 and it sure did show.  We started out sloppy but we were able to pull it together take the lead late in the game.  We had the lead going into the bottom of the 7th but our opponent was able to put a little rally together to beat us by one run.  Crushed by the loss we had to bounce back to play one more game to try to make it to the finals.  Unfortunately we were not able to rebound and our championship run ended.  It was another great tournament for the team and we look forward to heading a back next year.

Team History

It's been many years since Jason Simpson and Trevor Haas started our softball team chronicle. In 2001, our team was known as Adecco. It was their company team consisting of several co-workers, friends and clients. James Simpson, Brian Haas and Janice Lin were also lucky enough to be a part of this beginning. The squad continued into 2002 and 2003 with Jason as the coach of the red-shirted Adecco's. In 2004, Trevor and Janice took over the coaching responsibilities and began The Balcos team. Blue shirts were created with a steroid-like bicep. Team members included Jason, James, and Brian Haas. Finally in 2005, the softball crew became what it's known now as Grevey's Softball. Dave Popp and Jessica Kemper headed up this team as leaders. The winning streaks continued in 2006 with Grevey's Softball consistently taking division titles and championships.  Dave and Katie Crawford held the immense responsibilities of coaching the incredible team.  In 2007 due to multiple league championships Grevey's moved up to Division 3 and competed at a much higher Level.  The Early Open Season was a bit of a struggle but the Grevey’s team made some adjustments and looked to build on their prior successes.  Dave was joined by Dean Bickley to lead the team in the fall of 2007 and the team finished with its first winning record in Division 3.  In 2008 Grevey's showed great potential but still struggled with consistency.  Grevey's had winning records in both the spring and fall seasons but know they can perform at a much higher level.  There are high expectations for 2009 as Grevey's looks to compete for their first championship in Division 3.   Grevey's finished the Early Open season as the Division 3 Champions.  It is the first Division Championship since moving to Division 3.   In the Fall of 2009 Grevey's is playing in Division 1 and looks to repeat their play from the spring.   Grevey's finished the Fall season at 8-6 and in 3rd Place.  The division was very competitive from top to bottom.
