ANNOUNCING THE 2011 WILLIAM P. LYNCH PARENTS OF THE YEAR AWARD
Bill and Kitty Lynch were the ultimate parents. During the years that their sons, Billy, Tommy, and Ritchie played for Maplewood they never missed a game. Bill and Kitty devoted many long hours of volunteer work to make our program run smoothly. But it was the years they continued to help the program after their sons graduated that we all remember. Bill passed away in 1985, at which time the award, originally established in 1978, was renamed to honor his memory and their efforts. Kitty continues to carry on the strong Lynch tradition here at Maplewood.
THIS YEAR'S AWARD GOES TO:
KATE AND FRANK CASKIN
Frank and Kate have been Maplewood parents for more years than anyone can remember! Since their son Andrew joined the program, shortly followed by his brother Patrick, there was no job, regardless of how big or small, that they were not willing to undertake. Kate has served as a Team Parent every year that one of her sons has been involved at Maplewood. Any coaches who have had the good fortune to have her can attest that she always threw all of her considerable talents and endless energy into insuring that the administrative side went smoothly. When she was not performing administrative tasks, Kate also served as the team photographer and could be found on the side lines or even in the end zone taking pictures to make sure that the boys could enjoy hours of seeing themselves for years to come. As if this was not enough, she has also for the past several years coordinated the annual Maplewood Picture Day. Ever the News Man, Frank’s weekly write-ups for the Maplewood Weekly summarizing the exploits of our boys on the gridiron are the stuff of legend. He is always the First to jump in to help on Saturday whether it was manning the concession stand, doing the chain gang, or setting up or taking down the field. Both Frank and Kate were members of the 50th Anniversary Committee and helped ensure the success of that celebration by contributing countless hours to produce one of the best professional slideshows in Maplewood History. The amount of time and effort necessary to conduct these numerous duties, and to do them so incredibly well, is truly inspiring. It is through the dedication of people like Frank and Kate that we are able to carry on the many proud traditions here at Maplewood.

ANNOUNCING THE 2011 DAVID FLYNN LEADERSHIP AWARD
This award, originally established in 1986, was renamed in 2006 to honor Maplewood alumnus and 1987 Hylind-Crouch Award winner David Flynn, who died tragically that year. After 6 years at Maplewood, David went on to become an All Met tackle for Georgetown Prep and then a star at William and Mary. Toughness, courage and character are only a few of the attributes that describe one of Maplewood’s finest, who was loved by all and will be sorely missed. The David Flynn Leadership Award will be presented annually to the boy who best exemplifies those qualities. He is the player who has displayed extraordinary leadership and sportsmanship both on and off the field. The coaches feel confident that this player will continue his outstanding work habits and will prove to be a leader throughout high school and in life.
