I WILL BE UPDATING INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS UPCOMING SEASON SOON.

DATE OF NOTICE: 2/21/2016

WELCOME,

 This year will have the following teams  14u/8th grade * 13U/7th grade * 11U/6th grade * 10u/5th grade 9U/4thgrade.

To parents looking for an competitive travel team for their daughter we would like to invite you try out for Sting Basketball Club. Sting has been a top girls program throughout California for over a decade.

We believe challenging your daughter is the best way to promote growth. We of course will develop you daughter skills in practice so that they can play at a fast pace and under intense pressure. We try to play in events, when teams are ready, that will apply this type of pressure and challenge.

This year I am proud to announce that some of our past standout players have volunteered to coach different levels within Sting. These players, who will now be coaching, are the foundation and heart of Sting Basketball Club. They are each responsible for building the competitive reputation that this program has throughout the state and even abroad.

Sting Basketball Club in not an entry level program. If your daughter in not a stand out, dominate player for her school or recreation league team, she may struggle within this program. This of course depends on age. For our youngest teams we look for athletic players, fast and aggressive. We cannot expect girls at this age to have advanced skills. Saying this I would bring your daughter out for a try-out. We usually hold a couple try-outs at the beginning of the season, but if it is past this point you can still be invited to come out and run some drills with the girls in practice.

Also check with us because if we have enough coaches we may have started some development level teams.

For our elite teams we do expect your daughter to have basic skills. When our players are showing promise and improvement on their current team we will often "move the player up" to a team which is a grade level or two above. We would like to have 6th and 7th graders to be able to play at the 8th grade level and 8th grader we hope to start getting some varsity level experience. Sting players have consistently went straight to the varsity level when entering high school as freshmen, those who have played in our program constantly for 2 or more years.

This is a high school development program, with the commitment and desire to get your daughter to the next level and continue their game in college.

This year coaches will be...

Priscilla Wright who will direct the program this year as co-director.

Priscilla was a standout player on COS, she helped her team go undefeated in league, and obtain a number one seed for state playoffs. Unfortunate injuries hindered Cos's efforts and they fell just short of the final four. Priscilla still has two years of eligibility and she is weighing options to she where she will continue her career.

Briana Alvarez, is a standout player for Fresno Pacific in her Junior year. Briana has been sidelines several times with ACL tears. This hindered her chances of competing at the division level, but she has had a great impact for Fresno Pacific.

Dariyel Martin. Was a standout sting player and dominate in high school and is currently weighing her options. Dariyel, Brianna and Priscilla started sting as fourth graders and played all the way through. They are responsible in helping Sting win some prestigious championships. They were champions of Reno Memorial Day Tournament as 7th graders in the top division out of 19 teams, and runner up as 6th graders.  They went 3-1 and took 5th place out of 16 in the top division of Michael T Whites Tournament of Champions at Mater Dei which is a NCAA event. This was an amazing accomplishment considering the competition was filled will high level D1 recruits.

Should you have any questions or concerns you may contact the president and director of Sting Basketball Club.

STING BASKETBALL.........ITS SERIOUS!!!!!

He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak. Even youth grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary, they will walk and will not be faint.

Isaiah 40:29-31

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as your are working for the Lord and not man.

TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS by FILA & MICHAEL T WHITES EVENTS  www.michaeltwhite.com
Over the weekend Cal-Sting 16U took advantage of the college viewing period by participating in the Tournament Of Champions in Santa Ana Ca.  Playing in the top National Division with 12 Elite teams the girls went 3 - 1 and finished in 5th place.  Coach Jim says he could not be more proud of the girls heart and performance playing extremely intense defense and averaging 60 points per game.  Sting was also the only 16U team in the National Division and often faced girls at heights of 6'4.  " We had a tough draw being at the top the bracket which boasted the tournaments 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and consolation champs"  Our first game was verse  Cal Swift. Sting quickly fell down 8 - 0 but after getting rid of the, Sting stormed back and took a 17 point lead and led by 12 at the half.  The second half was a battle as Swift was not going down easy as they cut the lead to 4 with just minutes left.  Cal Sting made some critical plays and made free throws when necessary and the final was 57 - 54.  Second game was verse Team Aloha from Hawaii a very fast and seasoned basketball team.  Sting again came out flat and fell down 8-0.  Sting was able to battle throughout the first half cutting the lead to 4 several times and dropped down 16 at times. At the half it was a 8 point game.  Hawaii being deep and very very conditioned was able to tire Cal Sting who was playing with just 8 players. The final was 61 - 45.  This dropped Cal Sting down to the 5th place bracket as on Sunday they faced Team Mercadel.  Sting was the team to start quick in this game raising to a 17 - 4 lead and maintaining the difference throughout the game.   Finally in the 5th place game Cal Sting 16u faced Fresno Stars 17u.  The stars had played Team Mercadel on Saturday and won 71-67.Again Cal Sting managed to take control early jumping out to a 17 point lead but Fresno managed to get the score down to 5 in the second half before Sting pushed it back to double digits and was able to run out the clock for a final score of 60 - 51.    While most teams in the quarterfinals played teams that lost from the bottom bracket Cal Sting was matched up with Team Aloha 17U who came off a 68 -35 win over Balboa Hills 2011 17U. More info stats and pictures will be added soon...................
