Hank's Yanks 16u visits the Newark Bears
Matt Fitton, Starting Pitcher for the Newark Bears and friend of the Hank's Yanks invited the team to a game in Newark while the Hank's Yanks was competing in a tournament at Diamond Nation.  Matt surprised the boys who attended the event by bringing them on the field to shag fly balls during batting practice and to further surprise the boys, brought Tim Raines, former Yankee and one of the best Major League lead-off hitters of his era to speak to the team.
Hank's Yanks Wounded Warrior Bike Ride
The Hank's Yanks 16u Travel Baseball Team is planning to participate in a bike ride to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.  The 25 mile ride will take place on Friday July 20th starting at Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst, NY and end up at Overlook Beach, Babylon on Jones Beach Island with the route taking riders over the Robert Moses Causeway Bridge.

Hank's Yanks Wounded Warrior Ride

The Wounded Warrior ride went well in spite of some wet weather.  It wasn't a wash out and overall it was a great day with a fantastic opportunity to ride a bike over the Robert Moses Causeway Bridge.  The friends of the Hank's Yanks 16u team came through with some significant donations.   We'd like to thank all those who contributed to making the team's fund raising efforts a success.  Next year we plan to expand and have more riders and more donations!

HY 16U is Part Of The Solution with recipe for success
January 29, 2012 – 09:00 AM
A few of the Hank's Yanks 16u team spent some time in the Bronx on Sunday preparing the day's lunchtime meal at a local community kitchen called "Part Of The Solution" (P.O.T.S.).  Many of the local community residents take advanatge of the opportunity to receive a hearty meal with dignity.  The story behind how they ended up in their situation doesn't really matter.  What does matter is that the local residents of the Bronx have a place to turn to for many needs from a good meal to a haircut or even legal servcies.  Hank's Yanks was fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of such a great cause, helping to provide for those in need.

The team will be back in late Feburary to work with P.O.T.S. again.  If you wish to donate or volunteer your owns orgainzations time, you can go to their webstie www.potsbronx.org and contact them directly.

HANK'S YANKS AND MANHATTAN COLLEGE TEAM UP FOR A gLOVE DRIVE IN HONOR OF CO-FOUNER HERMAN HERNANDEZ.
March 9, 2012
The Hank's Yanks 16u squad teamed up with Manhattan College students and organized a gLOVE drive to provide much needed baseball gLOVEs to the underprivilaged youth of the Dominican Republic village of San Pedro de Macoris.   "The Manhattan College Lasallia Outreach Volunteer Experince (L.O.V.E) is an opportunity for its students to experience other cultures and administer much needed help and attention to those who may be less fortunate.  "It's a great alternative for the students to engage in a very worthwhile activity over Spring Break instead of spending a week at a beach resort." Said Dave Erosa, Hank's Yanks 16u Community Outreach Coordinator.

Thanks to all that helped with their donations.  The team collected over 20 gLOVEs for the students to take with them on their visit.

HY16U BEGINS STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
The Hank's Yanks 16u Team begins Winter Strength and Conditioning

On January 10th the team began it's strength and conditioning workouts with Manny Rodriguez from the Faster Athletes.  The team chose this program because it provides the formula to build a better overall athlete by concentrating on the player's core and is tailored to the individual.  "Not all programs create specific routines tailored to the individual athlete." said Manny Rodriguez, head trainer from Faster Athletes "Our approach is to create a healthy program for the individual that includes three work outs a week and a nutritional guide."  FA offers this type of program because each young player is in a different phase of development and they can't benefit nearly as much from the cookie cutter approach of some programs or worse yet, from going to the local gym and just lifting weights.

"At 15 and 16 years old, they boys are ready for some serious work." Said Nick Giampietro, HY16u Manager.  "We're looking to make a good showing this summer and the boys are starting by building a great foundation.  I gave them off in most of November and all of December and the S&C program is our first order of business."    The team will be back on the baseball practice field towards the end of January and begin with team drills that will improve the team's play in the field for both the upcoming individual HS season and then the long hot competitive summer season.  The summer is where the team will look to put the boys in front of some college coaches and scouts and they will be ready from the work they put in now.

The Hank's Yanks 16u team decides to play in the Boys of Summer League 2012...

The Hank's Yanks 16u Travel Baseball Club has determined that it will be playing in the Suffolk County PAL Boys of Summer league for 2012. " While all of our 16 year old players from last year have moved up to 17u teams, many of our 15s from 2011 are returning and we have filled in most of the boys who aged out. " said Coach Nick, Manager of the 16u team. Coach goes on to say that "We have an exceptional group of new boys both 15 and 16 joining the team this year and we look forward to rounding out the roster with a few more players, including a pitcher or two over the winter.  A team can never have enough pitching, especially in a short weekend tournament!"

Hank's Yanks 16u At Yankee Stadium in 2011.
August 17, 2011
In 2011, the Hank's Yanks 16u team visited Yankee Stadium on the day the Hank's Yanks 18u team (Managed by Ray Negron) played the NY All Stars (Managed by Yankee Scout Cesar Prebscott) in the annual "Boss' Cup"

The plan was for our team to shag fly balls during batting practice but unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and BP was cancelled.  The team did get to stretch out in the outfield and hold an impromptu long toss before the game started.  All our team members aspire to play in future Boss's Cup games and are working hard to achieve that goal.
