Legion Takes 2nd Place at District 9 Tournament

Hawley American Legion Post 382 baseball team capped off a stellar post-season run by earning 2nd place honors at the 2009 District 9 Tournament. There are 19 total teams in District 9. Hawley went 3-2 in the Sub-District Tournament, held in Pelican Rapids, to clinch a berth in the districts.
Post 382 defeated Warroad 6-1 in the opener. Pelican Rapids edged Hawley 5-2 to bump the locals down to the loser's bracked. Post 382 then went on to eliminate three strong programs by beating Red Lake County 7-4, DGF 10-5, and Fosston 7-6 to reach the championship game. However, Pelican proved they were the best team in District 9 as they demolished Hawley 20-1. For the 2nd time in four years, Post 382 placed 2nd at the District Tournament.
Hawley Post 382 ended its season with a 16-11 record (9-7 in conference play). Taylor Harms, Jacob Bjornson, and Matt Guida were named to the Minnesota Lakes Conference All-Conference Team. Cody Schenck, Joe Fillbrandt, and Beau Sorenson finished their outstanding careers as their eligibility expires after 2009.
