GOOD LUCK SENIORS
John Crouse earns MVP Honors and Best Offensive Player. Mat Smith and Jerry Green tied for Best Defensive Player. There was a six way tie for most improved. They are Jerry Green, Bruce Burgin, Zach Bowman, Jacqueline Guthrie, Jordan Amos, and Abby Taylor.
HHS Wins Against Salem 1-0
The Hornets picked up their second win of the season last night against Salem. After a zero-zero halftime score, the hornets came out running in the second half when Abby Taylor made an assist on a Kyle Harbin goal. Kyle's goal came in the third minute of the 2nd half. Kyle Jackey and the Hornet defense also recorded another shut-out of the season holding Salem scoreless.
HHS 0, Trinity Lutheran 3
HHS 1 CAI 4
CAI was out in force last night as they brought enough players to field two full teams with substitutes. It was 3-0 at halftime before the Hornets knew what hit them. The Hornets stepped it up a notch in the second half when John Crouse scored Henryville's only goal. The Final score ended up being 4-1.
Coach Farmer says that if every one played as hard as John then these games would be a lot closer. If you look at all of Johns battle wounds you can tell that he works hard and last night he was rewarded with another goal. Coach Farmer also thought that Kyle Jackey played well in the goal even though CAI scored 4. Our defense had way too many let downs. They are going to have to step it up if they plan on winning any more games this year.

Southwestern Takes Hornets
After coming off a big win last Friday night the Hornets did not play so well during their second home game. Southwestern put 5 goals in the back of the net with 2 goals coming in the first half and 3 in the second. Nothing could go right for the Hornets. Southwestern scored two of the five goals from 25 yards away from the goal.
In the past week Coach Farmer feels that the team took one step forward but two steps back. Our passing is not were it needs to be. Usually our defense keeps us in tight games, but they could not get it going. Coach Farmer says that it is great to play at home, but thinks that the current field plays to other teams advantage. With a narrow field it bunches the players closer with causes less time to get rid of the ball. With no grass to stop the ball it speeds up the game. We are a team that needs more space, time and need to slow down the pace of the game.
THE HENRYVILLE SOCCER PROGRAM WINS ITS FIRST GAME
KELLY: Hornets buzzing after first-ever win
Henryville
BY AIDAN KELLY
sports@newsandtribune.com
It was the second Friday of September 2006 when Henryville played its first ever soccer game against Restoration Christian School.
And it was the first Friday of September 2007 when the Hornets won their first-ever game — a memorable 1-0 victory against Rock Creek. Mat Smith scored the second-half winner, with Jacqueline Guthrie making the assist in what was also Henryville’s first-ever home contest.
“We had a great turnout for the game,” said Henryville’s coed coach, Joey Farmer. “Everything about the night was perfect. Most of our fans were watching their first-ever soccer game, we were playing our very first home game, and we won our first game.”
Coach Farmer, a former Campbellsville University player, started building the Hornets’ soccer nest last year at the junior varsity level and a first season saw them end with an 0-4-3 record, having played all their games on the road. Moving to varsity level this season, the Hornets now have a record of 1-2-1 and Farmer says he can see a definite improvement in the team.
This game is new for many locals. Having home games will hopefully educate the fans on this game and bring even more excitement to our community.
Henryville 0, Scottsburg 3
The Hornets played a very good scottsburg team last night and held them scoreless for the first 30 minutes of play. A couple of let downs in the last ten minutes in the first half put scottsburg up 2-0 at half time. Scottsburg scored their 3rd goal midway through the second half.
Playing a 3A school was great experience for the Hornets. Scottsburg is 7-1-1 and just coming off a tournament win. With this being HHS only 3rd game, Coach Farmer was pleased to see that his team can compete with anyone.
Henryville Ties Rock Creek 1-1
Henryville found themselves down 1-0 at halftime before their second half surge as Jericho Green scored the tying goal with 5 minutes left into the game. Mat Smith scored a goal that was called back due to a questionable call by the referee. That would have put the hornets up 2-1 to win their first game on the season.
In the first half Chris Rios shot the ball off the goal post, and John Crouse nearly missed a header. In the second half Crouse had a one on one with the goalie and just missed over the goal. The hornets had plenty of chances to put Rock Creek away, but never could capitalize.
The Hornets will play Rock Creek again on Sept 7 at HHS.
Henryville 1, Charlestown 7
Henryville loses to Charlestown 7-1 in their season opener. Mat Smith scored Henryville's only goal to prevent the shut-out. After finding themselves down 5-0 at half-time the Hornets stepped it up the second half. Mike Griffin assisted Mat Smith's goal.
Coach Farmer says that with only 2 weeks into practice he is still waiting on some players to earn their spot in the line-up because of missed practices. This was an early game for us and this year we are playing at the Varsity level. He says there is still no excuse to be down by 5 at half.
Henryville Has Moved Up To Varsity Level In Its 2nd Year
Soccer Try-Outs WIll Start On July 31 From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
More information on practice times will be given on July 31st. Practice will be every week day Monday through Friday. Physicals due on July 31st.
Open Soccer Conditioning On Mondays and Thursdays From 6-7:00 Until July 31st.
Anyone interested in trying out for soccer this year, we will have open conditioning on Monday and Thursday nights from 6 P.M. to 7:00 P.M starting on July 19th, 23rd, 26th, 27th, and 30th. July 31st will be the first official practice and tryouts will begin.
The tryouts will be for JV and Varsity Co-Ed Soccer. I will be expecting more out of our team this year as far as coming back in shape, and committed to play the whole year whether it be JV or Varsity. The first week of tryouts will be a lot of running and ball handling skills. I will time your two mile run the first day of practice. Do not let this scare anyone from trying out, I will be looking at many things when determining who makes Varsity. The main things that I will be looking for are: Soccer knowledge, Ball skills, 2 mile run (speed and quickness), Heart, Determination, and Attitude.
If you know of someone who wants to play, go ahead and give them a call and tell them to read this. I might have over looked someone by mistake.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful break. Remember that you must have a physical before July 31st. I would encourage all athletes to participate in the scrimmages starting this Thurs. Start running now, if you haven't already started. Work your way up to two miles. If you are just starting, start off with a mile jog while timing the run each time. Good Luck, and I will see you soon. Remember no pain, no gain. It will get easier each time.

Please see Mr. Farmer if interested in trying out for HHS soccer next season.
Henryville Ties Restoration 0-0
What a great season. This game against Restoration shows this years first ever soccer team how much they have improved this year. The Hornets first game was against Restoration who previously beat Henryville 7-0, their worst loss of the season. Yesterday, the HHS soccer team tied Restoration 0-0. Our defense recorded its second consecutive shut-out. Cory Fenton almost put HHS in the lead when he barely missed a shot out wide. If we use this game to measure how far we have come since our first game the hornet’s soccer team has improved 700%.
The Hornets finish their first season with 4 losses and 3 ties. Many of those losses came early in the season. The last two games were against probably the toughest competitors and the hornets ended up with a 0-0 tie with both teams.
The HHS soccer team will be losing 3 seniors this year and want to thank them for all their hard work. You will be missed. They are Gary Burgin, Ryan Dickey, and Cory Fenton.
To the HHS Soccer Team: Great job this season. Let's work hard during the off season and will see you next year.
Henryville Ties Madison Shawe: Hornets Played Their Best Game This Year
The Henryville Soccer Team ties Madison Shawe 0-0 last night. Madison Shawe is a top program in the area and has won many sectionals in recent years. They have had a program for ten years, and have great facilities. Coach Farmer says that this was the Hornet's best game so far this year. He says for most people a 0-0 game might seem boring, but in soccer that is a great game. The Hornets had two starters missing from the game. Abby Taylor and Tyler Thomas did a great job filling in for the missing starters.
The Hornet defense recorded their first shut-out. This means they kept the other team from scoring. Our goalkeeper Kyle Jackey played a big role in this accomplishment. He also came up with a big save when he blocked a penalty kick that could have put Madison Shawe in the lead. Coach Farmer asked Jackey to play aggressive and to attack the other players and he did just that. The defense played great and would like to list their names: Kyle Jackey, Matt Smith, Jericho Green, Kyle Harbin, Tyler Thomas, Kayla O'Brien, and Logan Shultz
John Crouse got a break away and almost put Henryville ahead 1-0 when he shot the ball and it bounced off the goal post.
Henryville Falls to CIA and Trinity Lutheran 4-0
Gary Burgin Scores Henryville's 1st Ever Goal
Congratulations, Great Job!
Henryville Ties Charlestown 2-2
The Henryville High School Soccer Team made history last night against Charlestown. Gary Burgin scored the first ever goal for the Hornets. Michael Griffin made the assist. Ten minutes later Gary took a corner kick and John Crouse scored Henryville's second goal by heading the ball into the goal. The Hornets were up 2-0, but Charlestown broke away from the defense and scored leaving the half time score 2-1. At half time Coach Farmer told his team that who ever makes it to 3 will win the game. He felt that Henryville needed one more goal to secure Henryville's first win. Charlestown came out the second half with more energy and scored their second goal to tie the game 2-2. That score would stand for the final.
Coach Farmer was really pleased with the way his team played. Coach Farmer asked Gary Burgin, "So how does it feel to score the first ever Henryville goal?" Gary replied, "I want to do it again, it feels great."
Henryville Soccer Team Comes Close
In yesterday's game against Southwestern the Henryville Soccer team lost 2-0. The score in the first half was 1-0. Gary Burgin and John Crouse got a couple of good looks at the goal the second half. Gary took 2 of the 3 shots on goal. One shot bounced off the goal post. The team played well, but still has to get more experience. I think the more we play the better we improve. I think the losses have made us improve because the team understands what they are doing wrong and makes them want to win the upcoming games.

Henryville loses season opener
Restoration beats Henryville 7-0. Coach Farmer says that "the score does not reflect the way the Hornets played. He feels that his team gave 110%, but they were just out matched. He is pleased with the teams effort and said they never gave up.
Coach Farmer played all 23 players and they can all say that they played in the first ever Henryville soccer game. Restoration, played only a limited amount of players even being up at half-time 4-0. Restoration continued the second half by scoring 3 more goals.
Kyle Jackey stepped in the goal the 2nd half and did a great job. He stopped a penalty kick and made a lot of saves for us.

Breaking News: Henryville High School will have a co-ed jv soccer team next year
Coach Farmer will coach Henryville's first ever soccer team next year. The first offical practice will start July 31st.
Stop by Mr. Farmer's room and tell him if you are interested in getting a head start on practice in July.
Coach Farmer says that if he can get the students out to his practices that the students would really love the game. Soccer was a big part in Coach Farmer's life and it also helped him pay for his college and he wants to share his knowledge with the Henryville students.
In a couple of years Coach Farmer believes that soccer will catch on really fast. The co-ed team will have to be divided into a boys team and a girls team. He is working with the elementary students this year for an early interest. He is conducting a elementary soccer camp this week for all of West Clark students grades K-6.
Don't miss out on saying that you were on the 1st ever soccer team at Henryville High School.
Things needed for practice:
-Physical up to date
-Soccer Ball
-Shin Guards
-Soccer Cleats
Take advantage of the $20 physicals on May 25th or June 8th from 4 to 8 at the Henryville Medical Plaza. Contact ASAP for an appointment.
