Thunder takes 2nd at Chase for the Championship
On 3/26/2010 to 3/28/2010, the 12 & under Thunder Baseball team competed in the Triple Crown Chase for the Championship Tournament in Pembroke Pines. The Thunder battled through injuries, illness and strong players on vacation to take 2nd place in a strong field of 14 teams in the 12u Division.
In the 1st game, the Thunder defeated the KHO Warriors of Kendall 9 to 1. The Thunder won with strong pitching and timely hitting. Buddy Hayward started on the mound for 3 innings, followed by Vishesh Swaroop closing out the final 2 innings. Offensively, the team was lead by Daniel Hinzel and Hayward. Defensively, Priamo Lozada anchored the team on 3rd base.
The 2nd game matched the Thunder against Team Tsunami from Miami. Rhys Friedman started on the mound, with Kenny Stanley closing out the game. The Thunder lost 10 to 0.
After the seeding games were completed, the Thunder seeded 5th of 14. This set up a game vs. the Florida Surge (4th seed) out of Boca. Hinzel pitched 4 strong innings, with Daniel Lowry closing the game on the mound pitching the final 2 innings. Offensively, the Thunder was lead by Lowry and Hayward. Ryan Tillman came up to the plate in the 4th inning and came through with a 2 RBI single, which would be the difference in the game, as the Thunder went on to win 5 to 3. The team was lead defensively by Hayward behind the plate and Friedman on 1st base.
In the 4th game of the tournament for the Thunder, they played the #1 seed Orange County Outlaws from Ocala. In the previous 3 games, the Outlaws outscored their opponents 48 to 3. The Thunder went on to win the game 7 to 0, behind excellent pitching performances by Lowry, who started on the mound for 4 inning and Hinzel who closed out the game, pitching the final 2 innings. Swaroop, Hinzel, and Andrew Velez lead the Thunder offensively. Defensively, each and every Thunder player made great plays, including Austin Davis, Tillman, and Brendan Tuttle in the outfield and Velez, Swaroop, Stanley, and Davis Fouts in the infield. This win put the Thunder into the Championship.
In the Championship game, the Thunder faced Team Tsunami once again. Davis Fouts pitched a complete game for the Thunder. Fouts pitched with a sprained thumb on his pitching hand, battled through the discomfort and showed his will to play in a big game. Austin Davis, Hayward, and Brendan Tuttle lead the Thunder offensively. Even though the Thunder lost 4 to 1 in the Championship, the coaches and parents are very proud of how the team fought hard in each and every game. All of the players can be proud of their performance throughout the tournament.

GO THUNDER!!
The Thunder opens the season with a win!
February 13, 2010
The Thunder started the Spring 2010 season on Saturday evening with a 8 to 5 win against the Sandlot. Battling the chilly weather, the Thunder was able to take advantage of a 3-run fifth inning to hold off the Sandlot. Buddy started off the game on the mound, with Rhys and D-Low pitching in relief. All three pitchers battled through rough patches and had success. Davis went 2 for 2 and Priamo went 3 for 3, leading the Thunder offensively. Kenny, Austin and Andrew also had key hits in the win. Hinzel, David and Vishesh anchored the defense, playing numerous positions when needed. The win was a total team effort. As the season moves along, the Thunder looks to improve on this good start.
