Local Interest - 4x 800M Relays held today: in Boys Division III, St. Thomas Aquinas placed 2nd & East Canton placed 5th. In Boys Division II, Marlington placed 3rd.
Division I race will be held at 4:45 this afternoon. 800M Run & High Jump events will take place tomorrow.

Federal League Championship
The Girls finish 2nd overall, while the Boys earn 3rd place honors at the league championship.
Hoover fans had much to cheer about starting with the 4x800M Relay teams. The Girls team of Erin Garfield, Megan Monte, Jillian Roth & Allison Peare scored a thrilling upset over the state-ranked Eagles by clocking 9:27.8 - the 3rd fastest DI time in the state this year - setting a Hoover High School, Bob Commings Stadium & Federal League Meet record in the process. Not to be outdone, the Boys team of Jason Bosyj, Parker Queen, Sean Newman & Zach Goulet pulled an upset of their own; recording the fastest time in the state to date - 7:47 - and also setting the stadium record.
Jackson Dual Meet
The Girls dominate (86-51), while the Guys suffered another loss (67-70) to the Polar Bears of Jackson.
Field Events again figured heavily in the Lady Vikes win: Sophomore Nicole Cunningham in the Shot Put (32-10½), Kirsten Logan in the Discus (105-1), Becca Maj in the Pole Vault, & Maddie Morrow in the High Jump (5'4) all took top honors. Allison Peare breaks yet another school record; this time in the 3200M. Her time of 11:23.5 replaces the 11:26.5 mark set in 2003 by Sarah McCort. Peare also dominated the 1600M race, winning in 5:10.02. Also winning for the ladies:
If you read the newspaper regularly, you probably are already aware that Junior Allison Peare was named Athlete of the Week by the Canton Repository. (And yet somehow failed to notify the webmaster!) A richly-deserved designation, Ally just seems to get stronger by the week. We are looking forward to even more thrilling races in the weeks to come from this speed demon.
The Vikes win big on both sides versus Austintown Fitch.
Everybody lovesHannah Romano and with good reason Thursday night as she blew past the competition in the 100M (12.7) & the 200M (26.9). She then went on to win the 800M & 400M Relays with fellow Vikes; Becca Maj, Kelsey Acell & Katie Eastman. Maj had a big night as well: garnering a win in the 100M Hurdles (16.3) before going on to conquer the Pole Vault, tieing the school record at 9'6. The Hoover Sprint Relay team wasn't done yet; Eastman took victory in the Long Jump (15'7½). Also winning for the Lady Vikes were:
Senior Tom Vretas stamped his name into the HHS record book, tossing the Shot Put 53'11½ for the win. Stephen Denissoff came away with a win in the 200M Dash(23.0), and as lead-off man of the 800M & 1600M Relay teams. The 800M team of Denissoff, JC Everett, Justin Darrah & Parker Queen ran a 1:46.6, while Denissoff & Queen with John Jackson & Markus Harrigan took the 1600M Relay in 3:27. Queen blazed another victory in the 400M (50.5). Also winning for Hoover:
Lake Dual Meet April 21, 2009
The Girls win easily, but the Guys come up just short in a dual meet with Lake.
Sophomore Becca Maj led the way for the Lady Vikes, holding down wins in the 100M Hurdles (16.24)& the Pole Vault (9-0). She along with teammates, Hannah Romano, Kelsey Acell & Katie Eastman won the 800M Relay as well. Field Events once again figured strongly in the win: Alex Rossetti took first in the Shot Put with a throw of 34-8, Denise Cunningham did her thing in the Discus to the tune of 103-0, Maddie Morrow cleared 5-0 in the High Jump & Katie Eastman won the Long Jump with a leap of 15-6. Also winning for the Vikes were:
Zach Goulet once again demonstrated why he is one of the top distance runners in NE Ohio; winning the 1600M in 4:39.93, the 800M (2:08.15), and on the 3200M Relay team with fellow seniors, Sean Newman, John Jackson, & Jason Bosyj with a time of 8:54.5. Tom Vretas held down a win in the Discus with a throw of 143-1, Alex Fluke launched himself 11-0 to win the Pole Vault. Rounding out the other first place winners were:
Aaron Morrow, High Jump 6-0 Parker Queen, 400M 50.84 Sean Newman, 3200M 10:10 Stephen Denissoff, Jackson, Markus Harrigan & Queen, 1600M Relay 3:33.2

Wow! The Boys take 2nd out of a field of 20 teams & a skeleton crew Girls team get 3rd out of 18. Way to go, Vikes!
The Ladies got off to a strong start on the day by winning the Distance Medley. The 800-400-1200-1600M team of Erin Garfield, Hannah Christ, Emily Hoff & Allison Peare set a school record with a time of 12:40.97. Peare followed that up with a blistering performance in the 1600M (5:08.54) & setting a stadium record in the 800M (2:19.11). The Vikings grabbed another victory in the High Jump where FreshmanMaddie Morrow cleared the bar at 5'6. Also scoring for the Lady Vikes were:

GlenOak Dual Meet April 14, 2009
Both Boys' & Girls' teams came up short Tuesday night against the GlenOak Golden Eagles in what seemed like an unending battle between the two backyard rivals. The Masters Tournament was brief by comparison.
For the ladies, the Field Events team did all they could to advance the Viking effort; sweeping the Shot Put & Discus. Alexandria Rossetti captured first place honors in the Shot with a throw of 31'8, while Denise Cunningham hit a mark of 105'0 in the Discus for the win. Freshman Maddie Morrow conquered the High Jump with a leap of 5'4, Katie Eastman scored a win in the Long Jump (15'1), while Becca Maj somehow managed to soar 8'6 in total darkness to clinch a win in the Pole Vault. The lone victory in running events was captured by Allison Peare in the 400M - in doing so set a Bob Commings Field record with a time of 59.7. The Lady Vikes fell to the Eagles 75-62.
The guys suffered a rough night as well. The highlights included Tom Vretas taking victories in both the Shot Put & Discus with throws of 48'9 & 137'4, respectively, while Aaron Rock, Steady Morrow jumped 6'2 to secure the win in the High Jump. The 800M Relay team of Stephen Denissoff, Parker Queen, Justin Darrah, & JC Everett busted out an exciting win with a time of 1:32.2. Senior Zach Goulet once again captured victories in the 1600M (4:30.9) & the 800M (2:00.4), while Parker Queen stood out among the field of many to win the 400M (50.9), setting a stadium record in the process. Sean Newman gave another gritty performance, winning the 3200M run with a time of 10:01.2. Unfortunately, the Vikings still came up short, losing to the Eagles 91-46.
Medina Relays April 11, 2009 The Vikes tested their chops in their first invitational of the season and did reasonably well at the Medina Relays. The Girls earned a 4th Place finish, while the Boys took 5th out of 12 teams competing.
The Girls' 4 x 1600M team of Megan Monte, Erin Garfield, Sara Polatas & Allison Peare cashed in early for the Vikes, scoring an easy win and resetting the Hoover High School record with a time of 21:59.03. Earning 2nd Place Honors were the 4 x 100M Shuttle Hurdle relay team of Jessica Hess, Natalie Sarbaugh, Mandi Grandjean & Becca Maj with a time of 1:09.02, and the Shot Put Team of Alex Rossetti, Katie Howard & Nicole Cunningham(97-11.0). Scoring 3rd Place finishes for the Lady Vikes was the High Jump team consisting of Maddie Morrow, Shannon Lee & Jillian Roth (14-07), 4 x 800 Relay team of Monte, Garfield, Roth & Peare (10:09.9), & the Discus team of Denise Cunningham, Nicole Cunningham & Kirsten Logan with a combined throw of 290-09.
Leading the Boys with a 2nd Place finish was the Discus Team made up of Tom Vretas, Stephen Robison & Tony Ventosa with a combined throw of 341-02. Scoring 3rd Place finishes were the Boys' 4 x 400 team of Parker Queen, Stephen Denissoff, John Jackson, & Markus Harrigan with a time of 3:31.9, the High Jump Ensemble of Aaron Morrow, Drew Stroemple & Ian Murphy (17-02), & the Shot Put Team of Tom Vretas, Alex Steenrod & Matt Owens with combined throws of 117-08.
Boardman Dual Meet April 9, 2009 The Spartans of Boardman upset the Vikes at home Thursday night.
Maddie Morrow grabbed a victory in the High Jump with a jump of 5'4. The Relay teams had a successful night with the 3200M team of Jillian Roth, Erin Garfield, Megan Monte & Allison Peare(10:16.7) cruising to an easy win, the 800M Relay team of Hannah Romano, Becca Maj, Kelsey Acell, Katie Eastman (1:49.4) also notched a 'W' - as did the 1600M Relay team of Monte, Hannah Christ, Roth, & Peare - whose 4:13.8 performance moved some to tears. Scoring individual victories were Romano in the 200M (27.5), Peare in the 800M (2:20.3), and Garfield in the 3200M, winning in 11:46. The Lady Vikes were edged out by Boardman 71-66.
The Boys' 3200M relay team of Zach Goulet, Parker Queen, John Jackson & Sean Newman won a nailbiter with a time of 8:07.2. Queen also went on to win the 400M with a lightning-fast time of 50.6, while Goulet wowed the crowd with a 9:54.5 in the 3200M. Freshman Stephen Denissoff continues to impress, scoring a win in the 200M (23.1) but the Vikings could not overcome the Spartans, losing 97-40.
Canton McKinley Dual Meet March 31, 2009 The Vikes kicked off their season with mixed results in a close match up with the Bulldogs.
Allison Peare led the ladies to a 74-62 victory with an individual win in the 800M (2:21), and as part of the winning 3200M Relay team of Jillian Roth, Erin Garfield & Megan Monte (10:04). Peare, Monte & Roth along with Hannah Christ combined to win the 1600M Relay(4:15) in dramatic fashion. In the field events, Shannon Lee cleared 5'0 to take first in the high jump, Becca Maj soared to 8'9 in the pole vault. Also taking victories were Natalie Sarbaugh in the 100M Hurdles (17.8) and Sarah Tirrell in the 3200M (12:02).
Zach Goulet led the guys with wins in the 1600M (4:34), 800M (2:04), and with teammates, Stephen Denissoff, John Jackson & Parker Queen, the 1600M Relay (3:32). Tom Vretas topped the field in the field events with victories in the shot put (52'2 1/2) & discus (156'2), while Aaron Morrow took charge of the high jump, clearing 6'0. Also winning for the Vikes was the 3200M Relay team of Parker Queen, Sean Newman, Jason Bosyj & John Jackson (8:39). Sean Newman also took first in the 3200M Run (10:08). Unfortunately the guys came up short, falling to the Bulldogs 72-65.
These freshman made their presence known in their high school debut: Kara Campbell- 2nd in 300M Hurdles, Emily Hoff - 3rd in 1600M, Hannah Christ - part of winning 1600M Relay, Stephen Denissoff - 3rd in 400M and on winning 1600M Relay team.
