A WORD FROM THE VP.
WELCOME TO HOUSE MAJOR
On behalf of Windsor Minor Hockey, I would like to thank all the players, parents and sponsors for their support and involvement in this great association. I cannot say thanks enough to all the volunteers I was able to work with throughout the past season and all the work done by them to for the players. This being the first season going non-checking, dictated by the OHF, had mixed responses by the members of house major in Windsor Minor Hockey. The first year, with such a huge changes like this, brought on challenges for players, coaching staff and referees. There were players that this change helped greatly and players that found it took away there advantage in the game. Each year we ask the players to play within the rules laid out for that season directed by the OMHA or OHF. Non-checking was a huge change but along with that came tougher penalties and suspensions for head checking and fighting. We try to emphasize the need by all players to arrive to play as undisciplined actions can come with very stiff consequences. Having the right volunteers in place to challenge and protect our kids was a job that I and Chris Banwell constantly monitored. Just getting volunteers in place has always been a huge job. We are well aware that things can’t always be perfect. As conflicts arose we did our best to work with all involved to try, at least what we felt at the time, to do our very best to make things right. Having the coaches and his/her staff strive for better development was always demanded along with doing everything possible to make sure the players’ season was fun, exciting and competitive. Please remember that if things don’t run the way you would like them to run, step up as a volunteer, this way you have a say in the operations of a team and you can make a difference. The communication between myself, Chris Banwell, board members and all of the volunteers in house major I found to again be exceptional. All the volunteers that were involved in any way with house major showed a true passion in wanting the very best for all the players. This passion was shown by the volunteers making sure the Windsor Minor house major divisions remained strong and as competitive as possible. In closing, I can only hope that the endless hours of work put in by all the volunteers this season has laid a better foundation to start with next season and the seasons to follow. I hope that all the work we do might encourage more parents to step up as volunteers in order to make the hockey experience the players have, the most exciting as possible.
