Pequannock SC - USA Closes out Season with a Win over Eastern FC 3-2
July 16, 2014
In a fast paced game Pequannock SC came from behind to equalize, score the winner and defeat Eastern FC. Eastern played a high line that allowed the PSC forwards to make runs behind Eastern's backs. PSC scored at 17 minutes when Ashley Healey made an excelent pass over the middle to Billy Evers who banged it home 1-0 PSC. Pequannock had the better of the chances till just before halftime. Eastern scored on a defensive bad bounce to make it 1-1. USA came out a little flat in the second half with Eastern having the better of the action in the first few minutes. At 47 minutes Eastern's number 10 scored to make it 2-1 Eastern. USA regained its form and had several good chances culminating with a run by Luciano Cundari. Luch was pulled down in the box from behind by an Eastern defender and a penalty shot was awarded. Jimmy Sweeney buried the penalty shot to the GK's right. PSC had equalized 2-2! In the 59th minute on a free kick Billy Evers passed it to Cole Leckburg who lofted it into the box where Jared Leckburg headed it in to get the winner 3-2 USA. The whole team played well and was the better side this day. The result was a fair one.
This game finished out the U20 NAL NE season of ten fixtures. Pequannock USA Won 6, Drew 2 and Lost 2. At the moment USA is top of the table.

Pequannock USA Defeats Brentwood SC 1-0
July 13, 2014
The Pequannock SC GK, John Marques and the Defensive Backs Jim Sweeney, Ryan Frank, Michael Leva, Ian Cantrell and Mark Harris deserve the credit for winning this hard fought match. The Pequannock defense repeatedly frustrated Brentwood's attacks. Finally in the second half Pequannock broke through on a corner kick from Jimmy Sweeney to Billy Evers who crossed it to Ian Cantrell who volleyed it into the net! A very pretty goal. "o Jogo bonito"
Jersey United rolls to a 4- 0 Win over PSC USA
July 9, 2014
In a game where no statistics were recorded it suffices to say that Pequannock held off the Spartans until the second half. The Spartans broke through early in the second half to make it 1- Nil. From that point on things continued to deteriorate. It didn't help that USA was playing this match after playing the night before. Jersey United deserved to win but the goal difference might have been less with a rested team.
Pequannock USA defeats Princeton SA 1 - Nil
July 8, 2014
John Marques played strong in goal, the defensive backs and midfielders worked together and jointly deserved the clean sheet and the win. The offense got moving at the half, USA outshot PSA 11 to 7 in the second half. Cole Leckburg scored at 50 minutes with an assist from Billy Evers to make it 1-0 Pequannock. The game ended with an ugly incident.
Brentwood 2, Pequannock 1
June 29, 2014
Brentwood managed to get 4 yellows and a red card in a very rough game. The game was highly contested to put it nicely. Brentwood scored at 10 minutes and got a second at 32 minutes. Pequannock played better in the second half and outshot Brentwood 15 to 3. At 67 minutes Pequannock got on the board when Tanner scored with an assist from Cole. Pequannock came close to equalizing but never got the second goal.
PSC's GK and Defense hold off Eastern FC to gain a Nil Nil result
In a difficult game the Pequannock Defense playing with 10 men were able to prevent Eastern FC from scoring in the second half. The first half was even in terms of possession time and shots on goal. The second half continued the back and forth pattern until a Pequannock player was red carded. With PSC having 10 men Eastern's possession time and shots on goal surpassed PSC by a significant amount. Eastern outshot PSC by a margin of 6 to 1. To PSC's credit GK Colin Hill came up big on several saves and PSC Backs and Midfielders thwarted all of Eastern FC attacks. This draw felt like a win, last week's draw felt like a loss. In the overall standing PSC is top of the table with 3 wins , 2 draws and 11 points

PSC midfielders and defenders closed out STA holding them to only 5 shots on goal in the second half
Pequannock SC USA defeats Jersey United Spartans 1-0 in a high tempo hard fought match
June 9, 2014
Pequannock USA's defensive abilities were tested by an excellent team. The Pequannock backs, midfielders and GK worked hard and effectively to preserve the team's clean sheet. The match was back and forth with neither team dominating possession. Two sequences determined the game outcome. Midway in the first half Pequannock was awarded a throw in from the left. Chris Hall and Billy Evers worked a short throw deep in the Spartan's end. Evers gained control quickly and was able to fire in a cross along the 6 yard line. Cole Leckburg got on the end of the cross with header that beat the Spartan GK, 1-0 PSC. The other key event occurred in the middle of the second half. To that point PSC and Jersey United were trading opportunities with PSC's being deeper and more dangerous. John Marques was able to save all of Jersey United's long range attempts without a great deal of difficulty. However, at this key point, Jersey United did work the ball in close and John got called for foul on a potential goal scoring opportunity. Luckily there were other USA defenders between the ball and the goal or he might have been given a Red. Instead, John was given a yellow and Jersey United was awarded a penalty kick from the 12 yard spot. On the subsequent PK John dove to his right as the penalty taker tried to place the ball in the left corner. John had guessed correctly and made a strong save to preserve the 1-0 lead and the clean sheet! A very hard fought second win for Pequannock SC USA. Well Done!
PSC USA defeats Princeton SA 2-1
June 1, 2014
At 15 minutes Princeton SA scored to make it 1-0. Matt Beier headed in a throw in from Chris Hall to get the equalizer at 30 minutes. In the second half Billy Evers stripped the ball away from the PSA center back moved in on goal and beat the PSA GK to make the score line 2-1 PSC-USA. The remainder of the game featured several excellent PSC chances that the PSA GK was able to thwart. All in all an excellent beginning for Pequannock SC in the National Adult League.

Ukrainian Sitch USA holds Season Ending / Start of College Bash
August 8, 2013
Almost every team member, parent and coach along with several alumni players showed up for the Bash. Most parents, coaches and players attended during the early evening but several players did not arrive until eleven. Almost all players stayed overnight! It was a great get together prior to everyone leaving for college and a great deal of fun was had by all. The Cantrell’s were perfect hosts with plenty of great food, drink and great facilities. Rob and Sandy anticipated the downpour and a tent was prepositioned. Of course it did not matter to the boys that we had a mini monsoon as they stayed in the pool during the downpour. A reversible Sitch pinnie with name and number and a “coffee” mug with a team picture on it were presented to each player. The stipulation was that it was a coffee mug and not to be used for "Other Fluids" The Sheriff was in town with the big yellow hat and presided over the late evening festivities
Final Season Wrap Up and Thanks
June 24, 2013
Sitch USA wrapped up their final spring season last Saturday before all players headed off to their respective colleges this summer.
The season objective was to simply enjoy our last season, end on a positive note and get Roman more goals than Ian!!! (Not sure how that battle worked out!). We entered the MCYSA league and entered three Cup competitions. Overall we played 20 games, won 17 of them and lost 3. The three we lost were versus Match Fit, Highland and Ocean Wizards. I think everyone will agree that the most memorable victory was the NJ National Championship Cup quarter final versus TSF. Where we kept battling against a quality side and ended up beating them in PK’s. What a game! What a rollercoaster of emotion!!! That game typified the Sitch team coming back time and time again to come out on top.
Because we played 20 games we did practice less. But when we did practice, the level of practice was the same as our first year as a team. That was great to see.
I was delighted to be able to share some of our games with my parents. My dad is now our number 1 fan. He is as critical of our play as he was of my play when I was in my youth career. I was truly honored when he wanted to come to America for the first time to visit me and to see the boys play. I told him this team and the way they play is my life’s work, my project! I thank all of the players and parents for making him and my Mum feel very welcome during their visit.
It was fitting that the boys lifted another trophy in their final game, as a team together, versus Montville in the MCYSA League Cup final. The success of the team was something none of us could ever dream of. We developed as a team and as individual players. Success came hand in hand with that hard work, player/parent dedication and a truly great bunch of young men. If anyone has any more pictures from the earlier days even MCYSA select, please share them. We can get them on the website. Memories of the team are triggered by every picture I see – and I have a million stories for every pic!
I listened to a speech from a young man the other day, and it really hit home. He described his last high school days using the metaphor of a bag of salt and vinegar chips, cherishing the last ones slowly enjoying them. Sitch USA is over for the lads, and we all enjoyed it over the years. I saw as the season end drew closer that the kids hung out after games longer. They took longer to change cleats and head off for home etc. They enjoyed their last “salt and vinegar chips” ;-)
So as this project comes to an end for us all it makes me very sad but also fills me with a feeling of pride. I am proud that I played a part in helping the Sitch boys develop into young men. I am happy to say that the Sitch team has blessed me and all of us with friendships that will last forever. Big thanks to Mr. Musser for everything he has done for this team. As I mentioned before, he set the platform for the team to succeed and grow. Thanks to Mr. Cantrell and Mr. Evers for stepping in when I wasn’t available to keep our team moving forward. Thanks to the parents for everything they have done for the team, and finally thanks to all the players for being a part of this project.
Thanks to everyone in the USA Sitch family for being a part of my family.
I look forward to hearing from all of you in the future.

Ukrainian Sitch USA wins MCYSA D1B League Cup
June 15, 2013
The finals of the MCYSA League Cup arrived on a beautiful Saturday evening. Seventy degrees, no wind on a turf field; ideal conditions for Sitch! The match would pit Sitch USA vs. the Montville Green Mustangs. Sitch had met Montville in league play and had won 1- Nil so this promised to be a competitive game. In the first fifteen minutes Montville pressed the attack and had Sitch back on its heels. The tide began to change at 20 minutes with time of possession and ball movement improving. Sitch earned a corner kick at 29 minutes. Billy took it and lofted it to Jimmy at the far post. Jimmy fired the ball at the GK who did not control it. The rebound came out to Scott who drilled it home, 1 nil Sitch. In the 35th minute Tanner was fouled and a free kick was awarded. From 25 yards out Tanner fired a vicious free kick strike which the GK got his hands on but could not stop its flight, 2-Nil Sitch. At half time Alan told the boys not to come out flat and don't give up a goal. He also mentioned that when I tell you not to come out flat you usually do the opposite. Mark had the answer and told the boys let's come out flat! The effort was there but Sitch looked somewhat flat for the first 20 minutes. Sitch finally got it rolling and chances began to happen. However, Montville continued to fight. Their best chance to score was at 55 minutes on a "one on one" breakaway that Colin Hill stopped cold from point blank range. Finally, Mark in the 79th minute made an unassisted run from midfield and took a powerful shot that cleanly beat the Montville GK, 3-Nil Sitch. To Montville's credit they did not roll over at this point but continued an all-out effort to get back in the game. Again Colin had to make several impressive saves to preserve his clean sheet. There was no further scoring and as a consequence Sitch USA won the MCYSA D1B League Cup. The final score was Ukrainian Sitch USA 3 Montville Green Mustangs 0.
Ukrainian Sitch - USA defeats the Roxbury Rhinos 4-0, earning MCYSA Flight 1 Co-Championship
June 3, 2013
Ukrainian Sitch USA overpowered the Roxbury Rhinos by a substantial margin. Sitch outshot Roxbury 33-4 and dominated the time of possession. At 7 minutes in Jimmy scored on a PK after Dylan was fouled by the GK in the box, 1-0 Sitch. Five minutes later Scott got on the end of cross from Billy and fired in a high velocity strike that the GK had no chance to save, 2-0 Sitch. At 15 minute Roman took a shot which was deflected to Billy who tapped it in, 3-0 Sitch. At halftime Coach Cantrell told the team to use the whole field “boots on the chalk” and to call for the ball vigorously. Coach Cantrell played many players out of their normal positions in the second half. Scott and Ryan played GK for a great deal of the second half. John played center forward with 4 shots on goal but did not score. Close but no cigar! Ian had a spell at center forward and used this opportunity to take three shots on goal; he scored one with an assist from Billy and almost had a second. Ian’s goal closed out the scoring; Sitch USA 4 Roxbury Rhinos 0.
USA finished out the MCYSA D1B flight 1 season as flight co-champion with a record of 7-1-0. Sitch scored 45 goals and gave up 5 for a goal difference of +40. John had 6 clean sheets on the 8 games he played in the league.

Sitch USA defeats Dover Strikers Blaze 7-0, Advances to League Cup Final
Sitch's passing, ball control and time of possession overwhelmed Dover. At 90 seconds John boomed a punt 75 yards down field. Billy pulled it down with his touch, beat the defender to the outside, turned toward goal and fired in a clinical finish, 1-0 Sitch. At 20 minutes in Billy scored his second with an assist from John and Danny. Mike fired in a cross from Dylan to make it, 3-0 Sitch, at 32 minutes. The Blaze tried to bring the ball downfield many times only to have the Sitch’s defenders break up the play and start a counter attack. At halftime Alan told the team to continue to shoot the ball on net and don’t let Dover score the next goal. The team responded by shooting many shots on net. At 10 minutes into the second half Dylan scored a pretty goal with an assist from Scott, 4-0 Sitch. Tanner blasted one in with an assist from Dylan to make it 5-0 Sitch. At twenty minutes in Mark Harris intercepted a GK kick and promptly fired a 35 yard long range strike past the GK to make it 6-0. In another nicely developing play Jared got on the end of a Tanner pass and drove it into the net at 34 minutes. This goal closed out the scoring with the scoreline being Ukrainian Sitch USA 7, Dover Strikers Blaze 0. With this victory Sitch moves on to the League Cup final and will play the Montville Green Mustangs.
Ukrainian Sitch USA defeats Hillsborough Roma 1-0, Wins Hopewell Valley Memorial Day Tournament
In the best contested match of the Hopewell Valley Memorial Day Tournament Sitch defeated Hillsborough Roma 1-0. Hillsborough was a scrappy team and played hard and had a few chances. Sitch controlled the game and probably should have scored a few more goals. Cole scored at 24 minutes into the first half with an assist from Mike. This was the only scoring in the contest. This match closed out the tournament with Ukrainian Sitch USA going undefeated and un-scored upon. Sitch USA received the U18 Championship Medals at a ceremony just after this fourth and concluding game. This was a fitting way to close out Sitch USA's last tournament.

Goal production slowed with, however, Billy did score with an assist from Jimmy to close out the scoring. The game concluded, Sitch 5, Yardley Makefield 0.

At 15 minutes Billy got his second with an assist from Tanner, 3-0 Sitch. Roman closed out the scoring with an assist from Billy. Final score Ukrainian Sitch - USA 4, East Brunswick Hurricanes 0.
Sitch USA defeats Rockaway Eagles 8-0
May 21, 2013
Rockaway seemed to be sleep walking in the first half. In the second half they played a more spirited game but the game was out of hand by that time. The instructions going in were keep your mouth shut and make sure you score the first goal! Mission accomplished, at 3 minutes Tanner passed the ball to Billy on the left flank, Billy dribbled a few steps forward and then rifled it passed the GK, 1-0 Sitch. Two minutes later Dylan scored with an assist from Mark, 2-0 Sitch. At 23 minutes Cole worked around the central defender and proceeded to blast in a strike. Dan had the assist. The GK had no chance, 3-0 Sitch. Two minutes later Cole blasted in his second with an assist from Scotty, 4-0 Sitch. At 30 minutes in Scott scored with an assist from Danny, 5-0 Sitch. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half Danny buried one with an assist from Scott to close out the first half scoring, 6-0 Sitch. In the second half Rockaway managed to counter attack and was able to get off 5 shots on frame. The Eagles had no shots in the first half. John stopped all 5 shots without a great deal of difficulty. In minute 75 Danny got his second with a feed from Mark. Jared closed out the scoring in the eighty first minute with a double assist from Mark and Scott making it, 8-0 Sitch.
Sitch USA loses to Ocean Township Wizards 2-1 in National Championship Semifinal
May 19, 2013
After a delay in the kick off time Sitch USA got off to a strong start versus Ocean Township Wizards, in the semifinal round of the NJYSA National Championship. Sitch had most of the possession and seemed to be settling into the game well, until on what must have been the first attack from Ocean they earned a corner kick. From the resulting corner in the 12th minute their center back got up above all Sitch players and powered a header into the top corner. Some generally slack Sitch defending saw the Wizards score a scrappy 2nd to go 2-0 ahead on 17 minutes. Jimmy Sweeney scored from a practiced corner routine delivered by Tanner on 26 minutes getting in front of his marker and placing a volley into the net to make it 2-1.
The Sitch squad came in at half time knowing their performance as a team was not up to scratch. A generally positive half time team talk was given, it was mutually agreed that we needed to step up and play our game if we were going to continue to the final.
Sitch never did get the slick passing game going in this game, the wet turf certainly added to our frustrations as any passes which weren't perfect slid away from its recipient. The boys battled hard and there were frustrations on the coaching sideline about the referee's calls as well as the rule that a sub had to be off the field totally until the other player was allowed to enter, thus disrupting any flow the game had. Sitch pushed for their equalizer and went with 3 at the back triggered by the injury of Ryan Frank. We had a few chances to get back on level terms but it was not to be.
The Sitch coaching team was proud of the effort and the work rate of the players. In what was a very emotional game debrief again we agreed that we were lacking our typical cutting edge and quality in possession.
The Ocean coach was very humble in victory and believed "the best team lost today", to which I replied "you should see us when we are on our game"! We shook hands and all players wished Ocean luck against PDA in the final.
It was another good cup run with two memorable over time winning games and a semifinal that could have been ours on any other day.
Highland Cyclones Defeat Ukrainian Sitch USA 3-2
May 15, 2013
Sitch USA dug itself a deep hole early with the Cyclones scoring 3 goals within 17 minutes. Sitch recovered at that point and proceeded to dominate the game from there on but the damage was done. At 20 minute Jimmy lofted in a free kick which Cole headed over the Goal Keeper head, 3-1 Cyclones. At half time Allan spoke to the troops saying that we could win this thing if we stay patient and add some quality in the final third. He was unhappy with the grumbling going on with the ref and urged the troops to play the game and stop arguing calls. Shots on goal in the first half were 11 for Sitch and 7 for the Cyclones of which 3 found the net. In the second half Sitch outshot Highland 17 to 3. Numerous chances but only one went in. Twenty three minutes into the second half Jim Sweeney fed the ball through to Billy Evers who drove it home, 3-2 Cyclones. There was plenty of time and many opportunities but the equalizer never came. Final score Highland Cyclones 3 Ukrainian Sitch USA 2.
Ukrainian Sitch USA defeats Sparta Thunder 9-1
May 12, 2013
In a one-sided contest Sitch scored early and often. At 8 minutes Jimmy executed an excellent cross to Ashley’s feet. Ash drove it in, 1-0 Sitch. Two minutes later Ryan Frank brought the ball up the middle rapidly from the backline, at midfield he lifted a slide rule pass to Cole who brought it down, raced past the defender and fired it into the net, 2-0 Sitch. At 23 minutes Mike Leva fed the ball to Cole in front of the net and Cole drove it home for his second, 3-0 Sitch. At 34 minutes Cole’s corner kick was headed into the goal by a Sparta defender, 4-0 Sitch. At 36 minutes Mike Leva scored with an assist feed pass from Billy Evers, 5-0 Sitch. At 40 minutes Dylan passed the ball to Mark Harris who drilled it into the net, 6-0 Sitch. In the second half with the game essentially won Alan decided to work on several things (Corner kicks, Short sharp passing) and made many positional changes including putting Shaggy in net and John at center forward.
A few minutes into the second half, Ash had a penalty called on him in the box. On the subsequent penalty kick Shaggy dove to his left after John signaled him that the shooter (Matt Burns #21) was going to go to his right with his kick. Ryan made the save! Burns #21 blasted the rebound over the crossbar, 6-0 Sitch. At 59 minutes Sparta broke through on a counter. Matt Burns #21 blasted a perfect strike to the upper left hand corner from 30 yards out, making the score Ukrainian Sitch USA 6, Sparta Thunder 1. In the subsequent minutes, John Marques had several chances. In minute 69, Jimmy crossed the ball to John and John finished, 7-1 Sitch. Four minutes later Tanner fed John out front and John got his second, 8-1. Mark Harris flying up the left flank finished out the scoring making it 9-1 Sitch USA.

Sitch moves on to Semifinals of the NCS defeats TSF 5-4 in Double OT and PK's
May 5, 2013
In an intensively fought battle Ukrainian Stich USA defeated the TSF Academy Diablos after double overtime and PK’s, 5-4. It was a nail biter for over two hours of action with many lead changes. In the end the team that showed the most determination and grit won. Sitch won with team play and intensity. The match had 5 yellow cards with Sitch getting 3 and TSF getting 2. Sitch was outshot by TSF 21 to 14 over the 4 periods played but time of possession seemed to be even. Eight minutes in, Michael Leva dropped a defensive deflection to the ground and powered it past the GK. In the 12th minute Sitch was called for a handball in the box, on the subsequent penalty kick TSF equalized. Six minutes later TSF scored a second, to make it 2-1 TSF. The half ended with TSF having the shots on goal advantage, 7 to 3. At half time, intensity and lifting our level of intensity was the subject of Alan’s talk with the players. In the second half Sitch played with intensity and pace and the shots on goal were virtually even. John Marques made some spectacular saves and TSF started to realize that it was not going to be easy to score against John even if they were able to get their shots off. Sitch got two of its three yellow cards in the first 4 minutes of the second half. Six minutes in, Cole Leckburg wrested the ball away from the TSF GK, passed it to Mike Leva, who banged it home for his brace and the equalizer, 2-2. At 87 minutes TSF crashed the net and scored to make it 3-2 TSF. Things were not looking good at this point, down one with 2 minutes to go. With a minute left Sitch brought the ball up the right wing and TSF knocked it out over the touch line. On the subsequent throw in, Ian Cantrell lofted the ball to the edge of the six yard box and Cole Leckburg headed the ball home; Sitch got the equalizer at the death, 3-3! By rule two 15 minute OT periods must be played to completion. If still tied at the end of the two OT periods the match goes to penalty kicks IAW with FIFA rules. In the thirteenth minute of the first OT period TSF scored to make it 4-3 TSF. In the seventh minute of the second OT period Sitch was awarded a free kick about 5 yards outside the 18 yard box. Jim Sweeney hit a line drive at goal, the GK initially seem to have the ball in his hands, inexplicably he spilled it, at that point Scott Trautwein drove it through the GK’s legs, and Sitch once again got its equalizer, 3-3. Throughout the match the Sitch midfield and fullbacks frustrated TSF's attackers. Jimmy did a number on TSF's speedy forward and repeatedly took the ball away or ruined his attempts at shots. Harris, Shaggy, Leva and Tanner were defensively brilliant.
In PK’s only the players on the field at the end of play can participate in the PK’s. Jimmy was up first and drilled it in, TSF matched. Billy Evers was up second he banged the ball into the upper left corner, TSF matched. Cole was up third he powered his shot too high and it flew over the crossbar, TSF came up with an opportunity to go ahead, the TSF #7 clanked it off the right post. At this point the score was 2-2. Tanner was next and buried his shot, TSF Matched, now the score is 3-3. Michael Leva’s shot was saved by the TSF GK. Again TSF came up with the opportunity to move ahead 3-4. Predictably John Marques made a great save to keep the score 3-3. Ashley Healey calmly came up to the penalty spot, took a very short run and nailed it into the upper left corner. Now the score is 4-3 Sitch. The next TSF shooter was the TSF GK, if he misses the net or John saves it, it is all over. The TSF GK who is 6-6 approached the ball and nailed it toward the lower right corner. John Marques guessed right and in a full body dive got a hand on it and deflected it out of harm’s way. Game, Set, Match!! Ukrainian Sitch wins a thriller and moves on to the NCS semifinals.
Alan sent out the following message to all the players and parents: Great job today by all the Sitch USA family!!! It’s so good to hear Mr. Townsend back in the stands screaming at the ref!!!! I am so proud of the fight our boys showed today.
Once again we defeated a technically gifted group of players thru our excellent team spirit and determination along with our quality on the field.
Sitch defeats Montville 1-0, remains undefeated in League play.
May 3, 2013
In a hard fought spirited battle Ukrainian Sitch USA defeated the Montville Green Mustangs 1 nil. In the first half Sitch - USA outshot Montville 13 to 2 and won the time of possession battle. Sitch controlled the ball and moved it forward very quickly and accurately. Sitch played very well against a quality side. It took some getting used to grass again as so many of Sitch’s games and practices have been played on turf. There were many chances that were very close to being goals but a few bounces and a sharp GK kept it nil nil at the break. USA was playing with one substitute which made it difficult to press the Mustangs as much as was done in the first half. The shots on goal in the second half were virtually the same 7 for Sitch vs 6 for the Mustangs, however, the quality of USA’s shots on goal were significantly better scoring chances. Finally, Sitch broke thru with Michael Leva driving the ball home. Michael’s opportunity came on a rebound off the Mustang GK of a hard shot taken by Roman Stashchyshyn. This made it 1 nil Sitch. From this point, The battle went back and forth with John stopping every shot that the Mustangs managed to put on frame. The Sitch Midfield turned around most of the Mustang’s counter attacks. Meanwhile Sitch continued to get good chances; Billy and Tanner came very close a few times but did not score. The scoring closed out at 1 nil but a fair result would have been 3 nil. Sitch is undefeated in league play but the competition has stiffened as of late. Sunday Sitch USA plays the TSF Academy Diablos in the National Championship Series Quarter Finals, this will be a massive test of Sitch's capabilities.
Sitch Defeats Titans 4-0, and moves on to League Cup Semi Finals
April 30, 2013
Sitch USA started the game with everyone playing out of their normal position. It was not until twenty minutes in that Sitch got on the board. Danny Ryan back heeled the ball to Scott Trautwein who banged it home to break the ice, 1-0 Sitch. Ten minutes later Danny Ryan brought the ball up the middle and fired a strike that beat the GK cleanly; this made it 2-0 Sitch. Thirty minutes into the second half Billy took a shot, the ball caromed off the Titan defensemen and into the net, 3-0 Sitch. Ten minutes later Scott Trautwein got his second closing out the scoring. Michael Leva provided the feed pass to Scott. Final score: Ukrainian SitchUSA 4, Pompton Lakes Titans 0. Sitch - USA moves on to the MCYSA League Cup Semi finals which will be played by 5/18/13 against the winner of the Rockaway Eagles vs Independence Thunder quarter final match.
Roxbury Rhinos defeated by Ukrainian Sitch USA 6-1
April 28, 2013
Sitch dominated time of possession and outshot the Rhinos 25 to 6. Sitch’s defenders broke up almost all of the Rhino’s counters and controlled the pace and tempo of the game. The first goal was scored at 3 minutes in by Billy Evers. He intercepted a Rhino goal kick, brought it to ground and fired a bullet into the net from 25 yards out. Billy scored his second with an assist from Jared at 25 minutes. It again was a quality strike from long range, 2-0 Sitch. At 33 minutes Tanner precision passed the ball to Cole who fired in a blast from long range that beat the GK cleanly, 3-0 Sitch. Mercifully the halftime whistle blew the action to a close with the score, Ukrainian Sitch USA 3 Roxbury Rhino’s 0. The second half was much the same as the first with the Rhino’s unable to mount a sustained attack. Mark Harris scored to make it 4-0 at 3 minutes into the second half. Mark got on the end of a slide rule pass from Jared Leckburg. Mike Leva banged in a shot from 20 yards out on a great pass from Ian Cantrell, 5-0 Sitch. Billy got his hat trick by firing in the rebound of a John Marques shot to make it 6-0. With 30 seconds left and with Jared in the nets the Rhinos got on the board with a point blank blast. Final Score: Sitch USA 6, Roxbury Rhinos 1

Sitch defeats Metrodogs 2-1 in double OT in first NCS match
April 21, 2013
It took 4 periods and 120 minutes for Ukrainian Sitch - USA to defeat the Middletown Metrodogs 2-1 in the first round of the National Championship Series (NCS). Luckily for Ukrainian Sitch - USA Scott Townsend and Ashley Healey agreed to be put on the roster last week. This move allowed Sitch to field 13 players (2 subs) for this first NCS match. Both players made significant contributions. Of course special thanks must go to Bill Townsend and Sandy Cantrell for all the work they have done to make Scott’s and Ash’s appearance possible at this fixture.
This first NCS match started with Sitch having the Dogs on their heels. Many shots on the Metrodog's goal were taken but none went in the net. At 22 minutes the Dogs scored on a counter to make it 1-0 Dogs. At that point Sitch went flat and played tentatively. Sitch's attack improved significantly after half time. In the first half Sitch outshot the Dogs 10 - 7. In the second half Sitch outshot the Dogs 11-3. Ten minutes into the second half Sitch got the equalizer. Billy Evers scored with an assist from Cole Leckburg, making it 1-1. Despite Sitch outshooting the Metrodogs by a wide margin for the remainder of regulation the scored stayed knotted at 1. By rule two 15 minute OT must be played to completion. If still tied after both OT periods the match would be decided by PK’s. In the first OT period Sitch was out played and outshot 6 to 5. Six minutes into the second OT period Billy Evers got on the end of a Jared Leckburg pass and volleyed in a bullet that beat the goal keeper, 2-1 Sitch. For the remaining 9 minutes the Metrodogs tried desperately to get the equalizer. The Sitch midfielders, defenders and GK held off the Dogs. John Marques played a great game in the nets he faced 18 shots and made 17 saves several of which came from point blank range. This hard earned win was a good way to start the National Championship Series; hopefully Sitch’s confidence and manpower turnout will begin to grow from this point forward.
Sitch USA defeats Roxbury FC United 7-0 in the 1st round of the MCYSA League Cup
April 19, 2013
Ukrainian Sitch USA overwhelmed Roxbury FC United 7-0. The possession battle was heavily weighted in USA’s favor. Roxbury was outshot 23 to 2. In the first half Scott Trautwein scored at 5 minutes in with an assist from Mark Harris and Mike Leva. A minute later Cole scored when he volleyed in a perfect cross from Roman. Cole got his second 7 minutes later with a header of a cross from Danny Ryan. At 20 minutes Mark Harris got on the end of a Ryan Frank pass to make it 4-0. At 43 minutes Ryan Frank was pulled down in the box and he scored on the subsequent PK to make it 5-0. At the 35th minute in the second half Ian scored on a PK after Mark was fouled in the box, 6-0. The Roxbury GK received a red card on the play. Mark got his 2nd goal with and assist from Cole and John, 7-0 Sitch USA.
Sitch Exits NJ Cup 3rd round - Matchfit Chelsea Crewe defeats Sitch 2-0
April 17, 2013
In a match where a lot of soccer talent was on display, Sitch USA held off a sustained 18 man attack mounted by Matchfit. John Marques made repeated sensational saves to thwart Matchfit. The score came on a perfect free kick from 25 yards out. It flew into the upper right hand corner of the net to make it 1-0 Chelsea Crewe. Essentially that goal was the difference as Sitch attempted the rest of the way to get the equalizer while holding off Chelsea Crewe. Sitch was outshot 21 to 6 but John stopped everything fired at him from the field. In the last minutes all of Sitch's Players pressed forward to equalize. This allowed Matchfit to get a second goal on a bad bounce. A fair result would have been 1-0 Matchfit. At the end of the game USA wished Matchfit good luck in the remaining USCL NJ Cup matches. Sitch USA will now turn its attention to the MCYSA D1 League, the MCYSA League Cup and the NJYS National Championship.
Ukrainian Sitch USA defeats Rockaway Eagles 5-0
April 14, 2013
In a game in which Sitch USA played down a man for the entire game, the result was very gratifying. The match was not as one sided as the score would indicate. For the first 10 minutes the issue was in doubt. The action was going back and forth with no team dominating the possession of the ball. Things began to change at 10 minutes when Billy scored by chipping the GK. Ian earned the assist on a quality feed pass, 1-0 Sitch. For the remainder of the half the possession battle was won by Sitch. USA had many great opportunities but nothing crossed the goal line. The first half ended with Sitch leading 1-0. The second half started with Rockaway being very determined to attack Sitch’s defense. For the first 10 minutes Sitch was somewhat back on its heels. Most of Rockaway’s players pushed up and were pressing. The turning point of game occurred in a scrum in front of Sitch’s net. Several close range shots were stopped by John and the Sitch defenders. This pressing attack culminated with a dramatic athletic save by Jimmy. The Eagles never recovered from their inability to put the ball in the net during this sustained attack. Had the Eagles scored they would have equalized and the match may have taken on a completely different tone. Sitch withstood the storm and began to possess the ball and go on the offensive. Several shots were taken at the Eagles net and the ball was moving around quite rapidly with the Eagles desperately trying to clear their lines. Tanner gained possession and drilled the ball home. Sitch continued to press with Cole scoring with an assist from Roman, 3-0 Sitch. The Rockaway GK fouled Cole in the box and Sitch was awarded a PK. Jimmy drove it home with his powerful left foot, 4-0 Sitch. With about 5 minutes left, Roman closed out the scoring by heading in the ball in on a nice cross from Cole, Ukrainian Sitch USA 5, Rockaway Eagles 0.
Ukrainian Sitch - USA defeats Thistle Cobras 5-2 in 2nd round of NJ Cup
April 8, 2013
In a tightly played match Sitch gained strength as the match went on. Things did not start off well with the ref awarding a penalty kick to the Cobras 7 minutes into the game. John collided with the Thistle attacker and the penalty was called against him. On the PK John got a hand on it but was not able to keep it out, 1-0 Thistle. Scott knocked the ball in with his knee from very short range to tie it at 1-1. Cole got the next goal with an assist from Jared, 2-1 Sitch. Scotty scored again to get his brace 3 -1 Sitch. Then Jared got the 4th with an assist from Roman. At this point things were looking good 4-1 Sitch! Unfortunately, the ref allowed the game to go 45 minutes instead of the 40 minutes in the rules. As luck would have it Thistle scored at 44:30 in the 40 minute first half. Now it’s game on again in the second half! Thistle tried to play a high line in order to get back in the game. This strategy was stymied by the Sitch’s relentless defense and it opened thistle up to the long ball down the flanks. Tanner scored a beautiful goal on a chip over the GK’s head with a nice assist pass from Billy. Truth “be told” there should have been at least two additional goals. The forty minute whistle was blown and Ukrainian Sitch had won its 2nd round NJ Cup match. Good show! Great effort by everyone! Dylan had to come out with a right leg problem. Hopefully with some rest things will be OK. The USCL NJ Cup Bracket is posted
NJYS National Championship Bracket is posted
The NJYS National Championship bracket has been posted. We will be playing the Middletown Metrodogs away on Sunday 4/21. The Kick Off time and field are TBD.
Sitch defeats TSF Spartans Green 6-0, wins TSF Indoor Championship
April 7, 2013
Ukrainian Sitch - USA continued their untied and unbeaten streak to six consecutive matches. In defeating TSF Spartan Green 6 – 0 tonight in the finals, Sitch USA won the TSF Indoor High School League Championship. Ball control and passing coupled with John’s play in goal were too much for the Spartans. The Sitch defense limited the Spartans to mostly long range bullets that John stopped cold or deflected away. He preserved his well-deserved clean sheet with great goal tending! Meanwhile the offense did it usual job of working the ball in close and pressuring the opposing team's defense. Tanner opened the scoring by smashing in a shot that left the GK rooted. Billy got the assist on an excellent back heel feed pass, 1–0 Sitch. Billy was wrestled to the ground by the Spartan GK in the box and a penalty shot was awarded. Billy rifled the PK into the lower left hand corner of the net to make it 2-0 Sitch. Cole scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. On the fourth goal Jared passed the ball, Billy dummied it to allow Cole to receive it, Cole was in perfect position and he made no mistake, he blasted it home. A few minutes later Cole got his second hat trick in as many nights to make it 5-0. Dylan closed out the scoring by stripping the ball away from the Spartan midfielder in the Sitch defensive half and then dribbling at full speed forward, beating a Spartan defender and then beating the GK from short range, 6-0 Sitch.
1st MCYSA D1 match: Ukrainian Sitch - USA 10, Sparta Thunder 0
April 6, 2013
The first 16 minutes of the match remained scoreless. At 16 minutes Dylan broke the duck and scored with and assist from Billy. The flood gates opened and goals began to accumulate rapidly. Billy got the second with an assist from Jimmy. The third goal came on a pretty passing play, with the ball going from Mike to Billy to Dylan and back to Mike, who then, buried it, 3-0 Sitch. Scott scored the 4th with an assist from Roman. The 5th was scored by Tanner with an assist pass from Billy. The first half ended with Cole scoring on a PK to make it 6-0 Sitch. Alan made many player position switches in the second half and additionally he wanted the team to work on the short quick forward pass rather than the safe pass to the flanks. The idea was to work on new things and lessen the scoring as everyone was played out of their normal position. The passing exercise worked well, maybe too well as the scoring continued. Cole scored on a rebound of an Evers shot to make it 7-0. Billy scored on a bullet to make it 8 – 0. Jared scored to make it 9-0 and Cole got his hat trick scoring late to make it 10-0 Sitch. John was not busy in goal but did make three stops of "on frame" Sparta shots. Shaggy came in to play goal and preserved John's clean sheet! Meanwhile John played on the forward line and almost scored twice. The team played well for the first game of the season and it seemed that Sparta was not able to cope with Sitch's speed, passing or ball handling abilities. The Sitch defense stopped almost all of Sparta's attacks and possession time was heavily weighted in Sitch's favor. All in all a good tune up and no one got hurt. Good job Sitch.

Sitch bests Kinnelon 6 - 3 to remain unbeaten at TSF this seasom.
March 24, 2013 – 11:00 PM
Sitch USA played its match against Kinnelon with help from two new players to the indoor TSF team. Mike Leva and Roman Stashchyshin contributed significantly to Sitch's win. Man of the match honors go to Mark Harris with 2 goals and 2 assists. John Marques was a fortress in goal stopping many point blank shots. Cole scored at 5 minutes with an assist from Mark. At 19 minutes Kinnelon equalized. Three minutes later Froto scored with an assist from Mark, 2-1 Sitch. At 30 minutes Brian scored with an assist from Cole. At 47 minutes Mark scored with an assist from Cole to make it 4-1 Sitch. One minute later Dylan blasted one in with an assist from Jared. At 49 minutes Kinnelon scored to make it 5-2. Four minutes later Mark with an assist from Ian got the goal back to make it 6 - 2 USA. At the whistle Kinnelon closed out the scoring making the final score 6 - 3 Ukrainian Sitch - USA. Next Sunday is Easter and there is no match scheduled. The following Sunday will be the championship game, the schedule says it will be it will be played at 7:00 PM not 4:00 PM
Sitch continues to roll at TSF
March 11, 2013
Sitch defeated the Kinnelon Colts 7 -1 moving their win streak to 3 straight. As the standings show after 3 weeks that offense has not been a problem with 22+ goals scored (TSF does not record goals after a lead of 6 has been achieved). Defense has been great with only 4 goals scored against. John has looked in complete control in net and our defenders have limited the shots taken by our opponents. This week's game was typical. Sitch moved the ball very well with most of the game being played in the other team's defensive zone. Sitch racked up substantially more shots on goal than Kinnelon. Ian led off with a goal at 2 minutes, his third in three weeks! (a scoring machine!) Mark scored at 15 minutes with an assist from John Marques. Dylan scored at 20 minutes with and assist pass from Billy. At 25 minutes Brian (the Hammer) scored with an assist from Mark. A minute later Ryan scored with an assist from Mark to make it 5-0 Sitch. Evers with an assist from Ian made it 6-0. Tanner scored with an assist from Mark at 46 minutes to make it 7-0. Kinnelon finally got on the board at 48 minutes to ruin John's clean sheet. No one got hurt, everyone had good afternoon except for the Colts. Man of the match award goes to Mark, 1 goal and 4 assists!

Winter College Showcase Commentary by Alan McClintock
November 27, 2012
Our Sitch USA Players came back together after their high school seasons for 2 practice sessions over the last few weeks to prepare for the Winter College Showcase. Approximately 8 players attended a captain led practice and then I led a practice at Pequannock High School. All players in attendance enjoyed the practice as it was high tempo and competitive. We got so carried away that we went for over 2 hours in the end!!
At a blowy and chilly Tuckahoe, Ukrainian Sitch - USA set out to enjoy a positive and competitive weekend of soccer. Game 1 was certainly a case of getting familiar with playing as a team again. Sitch lost control of the game with some very soft goals, and with the wind blowing away from the coaching sideline it was tough to grasp the tempo of the game. The half time instruction was to increase the intensity, keep playing, and defensively take responsibility for your own man. Sitch managed to claw back a goal. We then switched to a 3-4-3 and got the equalizing goal a minute before the game ended. Sitch stayed composed and showed character to come back from 3-1 down to tie 3-3. Goals from Jimmy with an assist from Billy, Cole with an assist from Billy, and Billy.
Game 2 was dominated by Sitch, most notably Tanner Ackerman, who in my opinion was “unplayable,” creating chance after chance and bringing a creative spark to the team (it was great to see him back after his unfortunate leg break in the early spring season). If Coach Bill Townsend was present I am sure he would have needed additional stat paperwork and a few pencils to keep a record of the chances we had. Some nice saves from the opposing GK and some assistance from the posts kept the game as a tie. It was an entertaining, but a frustrating game to end the day.
Game 3 versus Copa was a positive one for Sitch scoring early as coach Bill Musser requested and eventually becoming 3-0 winners. Goals from Mark with an assist from Billy, Tanner with an assist from Mark, and Billy with an assist from Mark.
Game 4 was dominated by the goal scoring of Cole Leckburg. A few great strikes guided him to a hat trick. We were able to put some players in unfamiliar positions to keep the game interesting and to excite the frozen sideline of parents. Three Goals for a "Hat trick" by Cole and Scotty and Mike scored one each.
Overall it looked like everyone enjoyed being back with the team, and being able to record an undefeated weekend was good for the team morale. I spoke with some college coaches and each of them was very impressed with our team's work ethic and attitude; all commented that we play the game the right way.
If anyone needs any help with recommendations etc in the college process, please reach out to me as I am happy to help (the boys know if they play in college they all owe me a t-shirt / sweatshirt or some soccer apparel from their respective school ;-).
Happy holidays to everyone.

Coach Alan McClintock's Season Ending Remarks
August 8, 2012
To: All Sitch USA parents and players,
I want to thank everyone again for being a part of the USA Sitch family. This year was more challenging than others. Our seniors CJ, Anil and Scott Townsend graduated and left the team. We lost Tanner and Luciano to injuries early in the season and then William in the summer. Ashley and Danny came in as full time players. John Marques joined us as our GK for the summer. We had guest appearances from Matt Musto and Stefano Russillo.
My opinion on the game of soccer and how it should be played, however, never changes, and throughout this tough year I have always had a belief in this group of players. I read deeper into losses asking questions such as did we improve on certain aspects of our play that we have focused on, what can we learn from this defeat, how can I prepare the players better, as well as looking at individual players reactions and responses to defeats.
There were many games that we didn't play very well in but managed to score more than the opposition, and likewise there were many games where we outplayed or matched our opposition but lost. That’s the game!
I am very proud to be the trainer of this group of young men. I have seen many of them grow as soccer players from U12, and each time they get together, in any setting, may it be soccer or social they click.
There are many things which motivate people. For me reward and motivation is in seeing these boys express themselves, interact, grow and develop. I hope that what we do for them impacts them positively.
A short summary of our season which after everything we went thru, wasn't so bad after all! Overall Ukrainian Sitch USA’s record in 2012 was quite good. In the spring, Sitch USA won the Ukrainian Nationals Invitational and was a Finalist in the Ironbound Warm Up Tournament. In the summer session Sitch USA won the Lehigh Valley Steam Roll, the Mid Atlantic Cup and the MSSL College Showcase. The MSSL Showcase was the final Tournament. Sitch USA won, employing the soccer tactics we worked on all summer. The boys compiled an impressive record of 4 wins, scoring 11 goals, conceding just one goal with 7 different scorers. This was a truly great way to finish out the 2012 season. In the summer session Sitch USA entered five tournaments, played 19 games, with 13 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties.
Best wishes go out to our graduating seniors CJ Puzo, Scott Townsend and Anil Vegesna. We wish a speedy and complete recovery to our injured Sitch players Tanner Ackerman, Luciano Cundari and William Gerard.
Good luck to everyone in their final High School Soccer season. I never played high school soccer in NJ. I wish I had. I encourage all of our players to take some of the Sitch mentality of playing for each other and playing with pride and passion into their high school games.
Take care and I look forward to seeing you guys on the high school fields.
Sitch - USA Defeats Greater Flemington Surge 4-1 in finals, Wins MSSL 2012 Summer College Showcase
July 29, 2012
In an absolute great way to finish out the 2012 season Ukrainian Sitch USA played perhaps its best team game of the year. Greater Flemington Surge who had defeated Sitch - USA 3-0 two weeks ago in the Central Jersey Invitational Tournament was overwhelmed by Sitch – USA 4 -1. The team wanted this victory to avenge the poor showing against Surge in the Central Jersey Invitational. The team was playing well in this tournament and had settled into utilizing what Coach McClintock had been emphasizing in his practice sessions all spring and summer. Everything seemed to click in this game; the long ball was abandoned in favor of quick, short accurate passes. Players without the ball were moving into space to provide passing options and the team moved up the field as a unit. The passing had Flemington chasing the ball without any possession. In the final third the passing provided many excellent chances. Sitch started early with an Ian Cantrell strike from 30 yards out that beat the GK cleanly. That shot at 2 minutes in, set the tone. Billy Evers scored on a perfectly weighted assist pass by Mark Harris at 5 minutes, 2-0 Sitch. At 10 minutes Dylan English buried the ball in the net with an assist pass from Evers, 3 -0 USA. At 20 minutes Dylan was pulled down in the box and Jim Sweeney scored on the PK, 4-0 Sitch. The rout was on. The only disapointment was giving up the only goal of the weekend mid way through the second half. John Marques with the help of the Sitch Midfielders and Fullbacks turned in 3 clean sheets and held the finalists to one goal.

Needing a Draw to move to the finals Sitch USA defeated The Kings Park Knights 3-0
July 29, 2012
Continuing in the good run of form from Saturday afternoon Ukrainian Sitch - USA dominated the Kings Park Knights on Sunday morning. Sitch allowed the Knights only 2 shots on goal which were saved very capably by John Marques. Scott Trautwein opened the scoring with an assist pass from Billy Evers, 1-0 USA. Evers got the 2nd goal unassisted by intercepting a Knight’s GK kick and beating the GK to his left, 2-0 USA. The third goal which closed out the scoring was put in by Ashley Healey on a corner kick by Evers, 3-0 Sitch.

Coach Alan McClintock: CJ Invitational Tournament Comments
USA Sitch outplayed Jersey Shore Boca for prolonged periods of the game but struggled to link up in attack. The goal finally came when a loose ball dropped to Cole Leckburg and he hit a left footed volley into the far corner. Sitch played out the remaining time in total control of the game.
Sitch faced a familiar opponent in Greater Flemington Surge in their next game. Sitch were broken down far too easily in this game with two goals coming from poor clearances of set pieces and people not marking their player on the second ball. The nail in Sitch’s coffin was a PK awarded by the ref for a “soft” foul but Sitch had no room for complaint as the game was over by then. With a 3 goal deficit Sitch maintained some good possession of the ball in the last stages of the game but overall it was a deflated Sitch USA performance.
On Sunday Sitch got off to a great start in their game versus eventual group winners Upper Freehold, Billy Evers played in a dangerous cross goal shot which made its way into the net. In the second half the Sitch GK John Marques seemed to be fouled in a goal mouth scramble which ended in a UF player bumbling the ball into the Sitch net 1-1. Another long ball which Sitch seemed to struggle with caused havoc and after a few poor clearances a UF player put UF 2-1 ahead. Sitch really put the pressure on in the last ten minutes a nice cross found Brian “the hammer” Canning in the box and he side footed a volley into the UF net to tie the game up at 2-2 and despite a final push by sitch to snatch it the game ended 2-2.
USA Sitch played their final game of the weekend versus Copa, 42 seconds into the game Sitch moved the ball up the field with some nice combinations Leckburg crossed, Evers let it pass to Trautwein who came of the left wing to slot home. Sitch were caught unawares as Copa took a short corner (the one we do ourselves!!), the cross came in, bounced around and Copa smashed it home. Copa’s center midfielder undoubtedly a talented player hit the sweetest strike from all of 30 yards, into the top corner to put Stich 2-1 down. Sitch changed up their back line to try and get more punch in attack and this allowed Scott Trautwein to go through on goal fight off his defender and slot in his second goal of the game to tie up the game. Sitch has a final effort on goal in the dying seconds when Matt Musto had a look at goal but shot wide at the near post.
Overall the results were ok with a win, 2 ties and a loss but the team did poorly when not in possession of the ball. The effort and work rate was fantastic as usual. The boys will take some good lessons away from this tournament.

Ukrainian Sitch - USA Wins the Mid Atlantic Cup
July 8, 2012 – 08:00 PM
In a well-played Championship game, Ukrainian Sitch - USA defeated Spirit United SC Phoenix 2-0. John Marques played a great game in goal, stopping 24 Phoenix shots with aggressive play. He challenged Spirit players for the ball, and in doing so absorbed a good deal of punishment. On balance, however, the Spirit players got the worst of it. John was in there punching the ball away, leaping and catching threatening corner kicks. His positioning was great, and he smothered every shot Spirit took. This was a well-deserved clean sheet. Although John was very busy, Sitch was in control of this game. At 8 minutes, Jim Sweeney passed the ball to Dylan English who drove it past the GK, 1-0 Sitch. Sitch USA had many quality chances, but the score remained 1 – 0 USA. Finally with about 10 minutes remaining, Mark Harris lofted a ball into Spirit’s defensive zone. Billy Evers got to it first; with the Spirit GK leaving his line in a desperate charge to smother the ball, Evers volley chipped it over the GK’s head. The ball slowly rolled in, 2-0 Sitch USA . At this point the game was over, the MAC Championship was “done and dusted”. A great weekend of excellent soccer. The heat was brutal, but everyone went home happy!

Ukrainian Sitch USA Defeats Redland Fire 1-0 moves on to the MAC Finals
July 8, 2012 – 02:00 PM
Sitch USA had won its first two group stage matches and had 17 points. Fusion FC Redland Fire had tied both of its two group stage games but still had 10 points because of the unusual scoring system being employed. Redland Fire was in position to knock USA out of the finals if they could achieve a result. As a consequence, the game was very carefully played. USA had 14 shots on goal and Redland Fire had 13. The game was nil nil at halftime. USA’s opportunities were more threatening than the Fires', but nothing was finding the back of the net. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Billy Evers brought the ball up the left wing; beat the defender, and crossed it just outside the six yard box. Both Dylan English and Ashley Healey were in position to drive the ball home. The defender, desperate to prevent a sure goal, tried to kick it away but instead he kicked in into his own net, 1-0 USA. At this point, the Sitch Defense began to really frustrate the Redlands attackers. Fire #22 and #5 were yellow carded. The USA defense turned every Fire attack around with great forcing pressure on the ball and some excellent tackles. Sitch USA’s ability to move the ball with short triangular passes and finding the “easy pass “used up much of the remaining playing time. John Marques was strong in goal and got the clean sheet. The midfielders controlled the ball and held it up. Jim Sweeney, Ryan Frank, Ian Cantrell, Mark Harris, Michael Leva, Matt Musto all worked together to frustrate the Fire. All and all it was a good solid game by all.

Freehold Legacy defeats Sitch USA 2 - 0
Two depleted teams battled it out with Legacy gaining a deserved win. Legacy had 17 shots on goal vs. 7 for Sitch. The two field players that took care of Sitch's GK duties, Scott Caputo and Michael Leva did a great job. Caputo played in goal 3/4 of the game and Leva played a 1/4. There were no soft goals. However, Caputo and Leva not playing the field further weakened an injury depleted team. Hopefully, several injured players will return to health and be match fit for the summer tournament season. It is also evident that players need to be added to the roster to replace the players leaving the squad.

Sitch vs. Pequannock ends in a draw at TSF
With first place on the line, Pequannock fielded 14 players. Because injuries cut into available manpower, Sitch fielded only 7. Initially a very determined Pequannock team pressed Sitch hard; the game was played in front of Sitch's net. Sitch was having difficulty getting out of its own end and predictably Pequannock drew first blood at 5 minutes in, 1 -0 Pequannock. Pequannock continued to outshoot Sitch and in the 30th minute scored a second goal to make it 2 – 0 Pequannock. Finally in the 42nd minute Sitch got on the board with a goal from Billy Evers on an assist from Dylan English, 2 – 1 Pequannock. In the 50th minute Pequannock scored to make it 3 – 1. The bad news is that in all likelihood Sitch and Pequannock will be back at it in the finals next week. This draw felt like a win.

U17 Boys Bracket USCL NJ State Cup
Ukrainan Sitch - USA loses to Ironbound SC Inter 2 -1 In the Ironbound Tournament Final
In the U17 Boys finals Sitch - USA fought valiantly on very tired legs to keep it close. Anil Vegesna was brilliant in goal saving 19 of 21 shots. In the 3rd minute Sitch jumped out 1 - 0 on a goal by Billy Evers with an assist from Scott Trautwein and Cole Leckburg. Sitch was outshot 21 to 7 in the game, and in the 28th minute Inter got the equalizer. Three minutes later they got the winner. Unfortunately the winning goal was scored on a blown call by the referee. A penalty whistle was blown just outside the Sitch 18 yard line. The Center Referee stopped play to question his Assistant Referee as to who committed the foul, thus stopping play. Instead of placing the ball down and blowing the whistle to restart play (a ceremonial restart) he allowed Inter to quick kick the ball before the Sitch wall was set. When confronted with his error he allowed the goal to stand! This was a disappointing end to a very rough weekend in which Sitch - USA struggled to overcome injuries and manpower shortages. Two very serious injuries occurred and we wish the players involved a speedy and complete recovery. For this weekend's players it was a good beginning with full kudos to the players for their effort and persistence. This was an experience to build on, to grow, and to gain appreciation as to what this year will bring from a competition point of view. It also has become painfully apparent that we need to expand the Sitch - USA roster to cover for long term injuries and to cover for players that have many responsibilities and commitments to activities other than soccer.

Sitch wins first Ironbound tournament game 2 - 0 Vs. Manhattan SC Sparta
March 17, 2012 – 09:00 PM
Sitch jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead but serious injury struck two Sitch players to the point where they had to be removed from the field to go to a hospital. The final medical tests are not in but chances are good that the two players (Tanner Ackerman and Luciano Cundari) will be lost to the team for many weeks. The manpower situation at the start of the game was marginal, with the loss of two players Sitch was forced to complete the game a man down. As a consequence the attack was sacrificed to protect Sitch’s 2 – 0 early lead. This strategy was successful but the win came at an extremely high cost. Shots on goal in the first half were 4 - 3 Sitch. In the second half, with Sitch playing a man down, the shots on goal were 6 - 2 in favor of Sparta.
One minute into the game, Dylan English capitalized, on a defender’s mistake. He dribbled around the defender and drove the ball past the GK, 1-0 Sitch. At 13 minutes Dylan got his double with an assist from Cole Leckburg. That closed out the scoring, but Anil and the Sitch defenders had to dig in and work very hard, without any substitutes, to register the clean sheet.

The game was a wide open affair with a lot of back and forth action. To Pequannock’s credit they kept coming back, and it was not until the last 5 minutes that the game got out of range for them.
At 5 minutes in Mark Harris scored his first with an assist from Will Gerard and Ryan Frank, 1-0 Sitch. At the 13th minute Will scored his first with an assist from Cole. DePaul Spartans defeated 7 - 3 by Ukrainan Sitch - USA
March 4, 2012 – 11:00 PM
In a game that was not really as close as the scoreline would indicate, Sitch dominated possession time and shots on goal. Sitch had 29 shots on goal vs. 10 for the Spartans. Sitch’s passing was excellent with most being on one or two touches. The Sitch defense was stifling and consistently beat the Spartan players to the ball. WCS - Beachside of Connecticut defeats Sitch USA 2 - 0
November 27, 2011 – 10:40 AM
Beachside of Connecticut is an excellent side that controlled the match from the beginning. Sitch had difficulty keeping the ball on the ground and completing its passes due to the pressure applied by Beachside. Sitch USA was out shot 11 to 3, this rarely happens. Beachside scored in the 42nd minute and got a second in the 48th minute. Sitch was not at full strength with three players on crutches and both GK's unavailable. At full strength Sitch may have been able to stay in the game longer but the result would probably have been the same. Scott Caputo did a valiant and credible job in goal.
This was probably the best team Sitch ever faced and the value of this game is what can be learned from this defeat. Coach Alan has pointed out what needs to be worked on and I’m sure he will continue have the team work on the things that will have to be done to compete better with teams like Beachside.
