Team Tryouts!
Tryouts for the Kamiak Girls Basketball Team will start on Monday, November 16th from 4:15-7:00 PM in the main gym. There will be two days of tryouts for the Varsity and JV team and there will be three days of tryouts for the freshman team. There will be a mandatory informational meeting for all girls interested in playing basketball this year on Wednesday, November 4th at 2:10 PM in the foyer outside the gym. You will receive important handouts and information regarding tryouts for the girls basketball team.
In order to try out for the team you must be cleared by Mrs. Billerbeck in the athletic office. This involves completing and returning the required paperwork and providing proof of a current physical. If you do not have a current physical…schedule one immediately with your family physician or go to a walk-in clinic. Athletes already participating in a Fall sport must still come in to the athletic office and get clearance for winter sports.
You can increase your chances of making the girl’s basketball team by being in great shape before tryouts begin. Start running, lifting weights, and playing basketball today! There will be conditioning and weight lifting after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until tryouts. Meet at 2:10 in the foyer area outside the main gym. It is a great workout and usually lasts until 3:00 or 4:00 PM.
For those who are new to high school basketball…you need to realize it requires a lot more commitment than middle school. In addition to the regular daily practices, you will also be practicing over the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday breaks and most Saturday mornings. Our regular practice times will be approximately 4:00-6:30 PM during the week and 8:00-11:00 AM on Saturday mornings, so schedule your job, doctor appointments, dentist appointments, driver’s education, etc. so they will not conflict with practice or games.
High school basketball is very demanding and a lot of work, but it is also a lot of fun and very rewarding! You will have great time building friendships and lifelong memories while developing your basketball skills. We are looking forward to a great season and hope you join us for an exciting experience!
Go Knights!
