2011 Keystone Cup Finals
The KTHL may not have the most talented table hockey players in the world but they do give you some of the most exciting table hockey in the world. The 2011 Keystone Cup Finals was another series for the record books. Dale Cogan made his way back to the Keystone Cup for the third year in a row; this time he took the Atlanta Thrashers to the Finals. Joe Gurney came back to the KTHL in the third year after a year off and he ran his Pittsburgh Penguins to a perfect 12-0 season and 4-0 in the playoffs not losing once all season. So would Joe lose a game or even a series or would his perfect season continue? Would Dale Cogan finally get the monkey off his back and win his first Keystone Cup Championship in three attempts?

If you remember last year Dale was 12-0 with his Minnesota Wild in the regular season. He put together and 8-0 run in the playoffs leading up to the Keystone Cup Finals. Then his streak continued with a 3-0 run in the finals making his overall record 23-0 on the year with one win remaining from a perfect season. Steve Dowell was not only able to give Dale a loss on the year he gave him four straight losses as Steve rebounded and won his second Keystone Cup Finals 4-3 over Dale.

Due to scheduling conflicts Steve Dowell the two-time defending Champion could not play this year and that left the field wide open. Steve defeated Dale Cogan in the first two Cup Finals and without him playing that left Dale the early favorite for 2011. On the other side of the ice was Joe Gurney. Joe made it to the Eastern Conference Finals two years where he gave Steve Dowell a monster run before losing in game 7. So it was no surprise that Dale and Joe would face-off against each other in the Keystone Cup Finals.

The first game featured the Penguins undefeated streak continuing to 17-0 with a 4-2 win over Atlanta. The Thrashers looked slow and unorganized but in games 2 and 3 they bounced back handing the Penguins two straight losses to take a 2-1 series lead. The important game four had the Penguins on the ropes and they responded with a monster 10-4 win in Atlanta before moving the series back to Pittsburgh for game five. With the series tied 2-2 the Penguins would have the home ice in game five but it was all Atlanta with an 11-5 beating of the Penguins and Atlanta led 3-2 in the series. Once again Dale was one win away from capturing his first Keystone Cup. The series moved back to Atlanta for game six where the Penguins fought off elimination in a 8-4 win and the series was tied 3-3 with game seven on the horizon.

In just three years of the KTHL the late round playoff games featured some amazing series with many of them going to game 7. In this particular series the team that scored first won the game and the Penguins did just that in game 7. They scored the first two goals of the game going up 2-0. The Thrashers answered to make it 2-1 but the Penguins put another one in the net to go up 3-1. The Thrashers fought back eventually tying the game 7-7 at the end of the third period! So it is game 7 of the Keystone Cup Finals and the series is tied 3-3 and the score is tied 7-7 and it is sudden death overtime!! (I told you we have some of the best series in the world!). Less than a minute into overtime Roger Crosby scored on a Thrashers mistake and the Penguins won the 2011 Keystone Cup 4 games to 3 in a game 7 overtime thriller!!

Congratulations to Joe Gurney for winning the 2011 KTHL. Your name will always be on the Keystone Cup trophy for years to come. It’s also worthy of noting that Joe Gurney was the 2011 KTHL Coach of the Year as well.

Week 3 Recap
July 11, 2011

Week 3 (final conference play) is in the books for the 2011 KTHL season. The Bruins and Canadiens were missing, but we played four more games to finish the 2011 KTHL regular season.

We'll start in the West where the Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the West again but had some close calls with the Blackhawks, winning 5-3 (fifth goal scored with :01 second remaining) and going behind early by giving up 5 goals in the first period to the Ducks before winning 10-6. They clinch the #1 seed in the West and will take on the Bears in the 1st round. The Blackhawks went 3-1 on the day, while clinching the #2 seed in the West. They will play the Ducks, whom they swept in the regular season. The Bears went 1-3 on the week but had some impressive goals against the Penguins.

In the East, the Devils only had to beat the Thrashers again to claim the #1 spot in the East. The Thrashers had other plans as they beat the Devils 5-3. This gives the Thrashers the #1 seed with a goal difference of 56 as compared to the #2 seed Devils with a goal difference of 36. The Rangers went 2-2 on the day to clinch the #3 spot in the West while the Flyers went 1-3 on the week to clinch the #4 spot in the East. Rangers will play the Devils in New Jersey and the Flyers will play the Thrashers in Atlanta for round #1.

A big thank you to all teams for another smooth week. See you next week!

Week 2 Recap
July 1, 2011

Week 2 (cross conference play) is in the books for the 2011 KTHL season. The Bruins and Flyers were missing, but we played four more games to reach half way in the season.

We'll start in the West where the Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the East but had some close calls. They are the only undefeated team left, Handling the Thrashers 9-5, but barely escaping the Devils and Rangers with 1 goal wins against each. The Blackhawks finished the week at .500, beating their rivals the Rangers and looking good against the Devils and Thrashers, before being blown out. The Ducks, Bears, and Canadiens finished at .500 for the week, fighting for that coveted #2 spot and home ice in the first round.

In the East with the Bruins and Flyers absent, the Devils had a nice 3-1 week, barely losing to the Pens 6-5 on a last second goal. The Thrashers went 4-1 on the week, losing to the Pens 9-5 in an unscheduled game that will show in the standings for week 1. The Flyers and Bruins both went 0-4 because of their absence, but some of these games could be made up in the last week of the season.

A big thank you to all teams for another smooth week. See you in 2 weeks!

Week 1 Recap
June 14, 2011

Week 1 is in the books for the 2011 KTHL season. Everyone but the Bruins were there and we played four games to start the season.

We'll start in the West where the Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the conference with an average score of 9-2. They are looking to be the team to beat in the West. The Blackhawks showed off their new jerseys and won both games with them. However, they were involved in a real slugfest against the Pens, ultimately losing 10-6. The Ducks finished at .500 for the week, the Bears won their first game, and the expansion Canadiens had a rough week. Hang in there!

In the East with the Bruins absent, the Devils cruised to a 4-0 week, averaging a score of 4-2 in their wins. Their defense will be tough this year. The Thrashers, now kicked out of Minnesota, settled with a 3-1 record. In the middle were the Rangers at .500. The Flyers won one game and the Bruins went 0-4 because of the absence. Some of the Bruins games may be made up at a later date though.

A big thank you to all teams for a great, smooth week 1. See you in 2 weeks.

Special Thanks to Lynn Schmidt for our Leagues Logo
I would like to thank Lynn "Weird Wolf" Schmidt for his work on our League's logo. Lynn does an awesome job on our logos that we need. He has created many League logos for electric football leagues throughout the country and time after time he outdoes himself. If you would like Lynn to create a logo for your League drop him an e-mail at: weirdwolf@weirdwolf.net and he can do the same for you. His prices are very reasonable for the quality of work that he does. When you drop him a line tell him that Raiderman sent you and he'll be happy to hook you up!
For all of your Stiga Hockey needs (and wants)
If you browse the web there are certainly places out there to get your Stiga hockey gear. I recommend Len Mecca at: www.rodwarriors.com

Click onto his web site and even though the teams say OUT OF STOCK he probably has them. (His web guy doesn't keep up with the latest shipments). Drop him an e-mail and tell him that the RAIDERMAN sent you to his store. He'll hook you up. I've ordered items from him and he's great to deal with.

I also recommend www.tablehockeypro.com for their AWESOME puck deflectors and puck return devices. They have graciously donated a couple defelctors to the KTHL (sorry, they're going on my games :P) and they work really good. They are also required on all games used in the KTHL so order yours soon!
