By MIKE LEBOEUF mleboeuf@palltimes.com MEXICO — Staging a dramatic two-out, two-run rally, the Mexico varsity softball game won a thrilling 6-5 contest over visiting Homer on Tuesday. The Tigers (5-5 league, 6-8 overall) trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but Kennedy Lamb tied the game with a single to center field, and she later scored the winning run on Kendra Harter’s single to left to end the game. The walk-off win set off a celebration in front of the Mexico dugout. Not only did it lift the Tigers to the .500 mark in league play, but it punctuated a day dedicated to raising money to fight cancer. Following the game, the Tigers presented a check for $1,417.75 to the American Cancer Society/Coaches Vs. Cancer. The team and the Mexico community worked hard to raise the money, selling T-shirts, chances on gift baskets, and wrist bands. Parents also pledged donations. Lamb, who was selected as the Mexico Sports Boosters Player of the Game from the Tigers, dedicated her MVP award to the memory of her grandfather, William Jess Lamb, who died on Saturday. “It was for him,” she said. “I had a little extra motivation.” Lamb, a hard-throwing lefty, attacked the strike zone and came up with some big outs throughout the game. At the plate, she contributed two hits, including the clutch single to knock in the tying run in the seventh. “She really did terrific,” Coach Andy MacDonald said about Lamb. He noted that she has been back in the lineup only a few games since returning from a concussion. “She’s been pitching strong. She’s a gamer.”

Softball: Wachna leads Onondaga to 6-4 victory over Fabius-Pompey
Donnie Webb | dwebb@syracuse.com, May 16, 2013 9:38 p.m.
Lindsay Wachna is a hitting machine. On Thursday, the Onondaga Central High School batter added three more hits and scored the winning run as the Tigers defeated Fabius-Pompey 6-4 in an OHSL Patriot American divisionsoftball game.
It was just the second loss of the season for the Falcons and their first in the league.
Wachna is batting .674, the highest average of any player in Onondaga County.
In an 8-4 victory over LaFayette on Wednesday, Wachna hit for the cycle. That is, she got a home run, triple, double and single.
"That's a big deal," said Onondaga coach Sarah Dolph. "I can't tell you've I've seen that much more than once or twice."
Dolph said Wachna spends extra time hitting outside her team's regular practice. She said Wachna is consistent in keeping the ball in play.
"She's a strong girl," Dolph said, "and when she puts the ball in play, things happen."

The Battery Lightning-St. Bonaventure connection continues as 2014 catcher Morgan Phillips has verballed to the Bonnies.
Phillips is a 2014 catcher who plays for the Battery Lightning and Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Phillips comes from an impressive high school and travel ball program and she should be an impressive addition to the Bonnies. Phillips is a right handed power hitter who should hit some long balls when she gets to Olean. ***The Battery Lightning is a fairly new travel ball program, but they have already had some impressive results. They have recently had players commit to Michigan, Syracuse, and Hofstra among others. The Battery Lightning recently had Kiera Lorenzo and Des Gonzalez sign with St. Bonaventure for next season. Phillips joins Josie Borysevicz in the Bonnies 2014 recruiting class.
***Great article on Aidan Falk and her early season success this HS season. If she isn't hitting lazer shots and Home Runs she has even the best pitchers in Section V and beyond intentionally walking her. Great kid, great family and great player!

Sport: Softball.

About me: Two-time Private-Parochial League Player of Year already has given verbal commitment to University of Michigan, where she may major in law/business. ... Favorite athlete is Derek Jeter. ... Belted 10 HRs last year and hit .600 as a second-team all-state pick. ... Vice-president of her class and member of DECA, a Mercy business club. ... Also plays outfield/catcher. ... Club teams: Battery Lightning Gold and another in Michigan.

Congratulations Kalet Lenart '13 of the Battery Lightning Gold on her commitment to Edinboro University today (4/7/2013). Kalet is going to be an immediate impact player for Coach Gierlak's- Fightning Scots. Kalet was a highly sought after pitcher by a variety of programs at all NCAA levels before making a very careful decision on a school that was the best overall fit for her.
Congratulations Kalet!!!
