RIPTIDE SPLIT OPENER
The Long Island Riptide Split today's season opener with the Long Island Breakers 13u today at Oregon field. The Tide boys looked winter rusty in the opener putting together only five hits and making 3 errors in the field losing game one 4-2 allowing two unearned runs.
Chris Cepeda opened the season going 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. Riptide new commer Michael Callahan closed out the game by throwing two scoreless innings. Patrick Roarty had a RBI double, Luke Leonardi had a RBI double. Nolan McCormick had a solid day in left field with three fine catches.
Riptide rust was shaken off for game Two as the Tide boys put up 12 runs on 12 hits taking game two by the score of 12-0. Riptide rookie Matt Mckinnon playing in his first game as a Riptide missing game one went 2-4 with a three run home run and scored twice, Tyler Conlon was 2-4, Luke Leonardi was 2-4, Nolan Mccormick was 2-2 with three runs scored, Chris Cepeda had three walks at bottom of the lineup.
Luke Leonardi is back! Luke with a live arm threw game two and flirted with a no hitter, Luke went 5 2/3 innings before he allowed a bloop hit over 2b to break up the No No. Luke finished 6 innings on the hill not allowing a run and only 2 hits, P.J. Martino finished the 7th inning allowing 1 hit and a strikeout. GREAT EFFORT BY ALL THE BOYS ON THE OPENER.
