12u Breakers National Wins Diamond Studz Tournament
April 21, 2013 – 08:59 PM
 |
The 12u Long Island Breakers National club went 4-0 this weekend to win the Diamond Studz Spring Chill Tournament. This was the 1st ever tournament victory for this club, which began play in the fall of 2012. Theis tournament featured only 5 teams, but the Breakers had to win two hard fought games on Sunday to earn the tournament championship.
|
The Breakers opened Pool Play on Saturday with a 14-1 win over the Atlantic Tides (T). Peter Taddonio threw a complete game to earn the win on the mound. In their 2nd Pool Play game, the Breakers National faced off against the Breakers American squad in the teams first ever meeting. The game was tied at 0-0 after 2 innings when the Breakers National struck for a 5 run inning to open the game up. Patick Hoffman had a big 2 run double in the inning. Jack Logan went 3 1/3 innings on the mound to earn the win in the 9-1 victory. Brad "Sak" Sakellarides struck out all 5 batters that he faced in relief.
|
On Sunday, the Breakers had to play the Breakers American team in a rematch. However, this time, the winner would advance to the finals of the tournament. Eamon Bonner pitched a great game for the Breaker American squad, as the score was tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Page had a big 2-run single to give the Breakers National a 5-3 lead who would hold on for the victory and a trip to the Championship Game. Dan Curtin threw a complete game for the Breaker National team.
|
 |
In the finals, the Breakers National faced the Bellport Braves. This was the 2nd time that these two teams had met this season, as the Breakers National defeated the Braves 3-2 two weeks earlier. The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd and held onto this lead until the Breakers struck for 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Patrick Hoffman and Dan Curtain opened up the inning with singles. Noah Block sacrificed them to 2nd and 3rd. Nick Bettenhauser drove a 2-run single to right center to knock in Hoffman and Curtin to give the Breakers a 2-1 lead. Nick Nissen threw a complete game, and kept the Braves off the board the final 2 frames to secure the 2-1 win and the Breakers National clubs 1st ever tournament victory.

10u Breakers Reach Finals at Hurricane Sandy Tournament
April 8, 2013 – 12:44 PM
 |
The 10u Long Island Breakers started Pool Play games against Diamond Baseball Academy on Saturday afternoon. Jared Sprague and Justin Moustouka led the way, each pitching 3 strong innings in the Breakers 9-5 victory. Timely hitting by Joey Flanagan, Jared Sprague, Dylan Lucchese, and Emma Zumpol were key in the win. The Breakers then took on the Atlantic Tides, coached by Paul Gibson, in game 2. Justin Rajab took the mound and threw 5 terrific innings, helping the Breakers cruise to a 9-1 victory. As he did all weekend, John Kearney sparked the Breaker attack from the leadoff spot in the lineup by getting on base and scoring runs. James Goff and Justin Lawrence had big hits in this Breaker win as well. |
On Sunday morning, the Breakers secured their spot in the finals with a 15-6 victory over the Atlantic Tides (Kochenmeister) squad. Ty Orologio pitched 4 strong innings and Dylan Lucchese finished well on the mound. The offense was led by Donald Lent, who spent the entire game smashing base hits and playing flawless defense at 1st base as well. Ty Orologio also smacked 2 hits in the victory. The final pool play game against the LI Sharks resulted in a 12-4 Breaker loss, Justin Lawrence pitched well, but the strong hitting Shark lineup eventually broke through and took over the game.
The final game starter for the Breakers was John Kearney, and despite throwing darts to start the game, the great hitting of the Sharks was just too much for the Breaker squad to handle. Combined with some shoddy defensive play by the Breakers, the game resulted in a 15-0 Shark victory. The Sharks played like the best team in the tournament all weekend, and they earned their championship trophies with their fine play.
The Breakers 10u did a great job overall in the tournament, as they continue to grow and learn the skills they need for 65 ft baseball, the coaches are confident that the level of play for the team will rise as the weather gets warmer.
The Breakers now look to finish out their spring games at Baseball Heaven, and look forward to their next tournament, the Town of Brookhaven Spring Classic the weekend of May 3rd.
Tim Milligan Heading to Stevens Institute of Technology this Fall
March 11, 2013 – 10:38 PM
 |
2013 Graduate and Pitcher, Timothy Milligan, has committed to attend Stevens Institute of Technology this fall. Milligan, currently a senior at West Islip High School, is an excellent student in the classroom, as well as a student of the game of baseball.
Tim played for the Breakers organization for the past few years. Last winter, with the suggestion from Neal Heaton, Tim transformed himself as a pitcher, going from a traditional overhand delivery to a sidearm delivery. Tim worked hard to master his new delivery and pitched some big games for the Breakers in the Summeof 2012. Tim was the winning pitcher in the Semi-final game at the Phoenix Bats Wood Bat National Championships in Cininnati, OH this July in a 2-1 win over the Top Prospects from Indiana. A few weeks later, Tim kept the South Charlotte Panthers off balance pitching a great game in a tough luck 3-0 loss.
|
Tim has excellent movement on his fastball and has a sweeping curveball, both pitches being tough to "square up" as a hiitter. There is no doubt that Tim will eat up many innings on the hill for the Stevens Ducks in the near future.
Congratulatons and good luck Tim.
Breaker Alumni Sign NCAA National Letters of Intent
January 21, 2013 – 04:58 PM

During the NCAA's recently concluded early signing period, two Breaker players (now Breaker Alumni) have signed their National Letters of Intent with the schools that they have committed to. Here is the what their respective schools have written about them on their website:
 |
Devin Caybasi (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) is a 6-foot, 175-pound left-handed pitcher from Smithtown High East. He played his summer ball for the Smithtown Bulls, and was a participant in the 2012 Baseball Factory National World Series. He intends to major in criminal justice at Felician. "Devin has a fastball in the 82-85 mile-per-hour range with a good change-up and a solid curve," Langan said. "He has good movement on all of his pitches and has a chance to impact our starting rotation right away." |
 |
Danny Taliercio (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) Taliercio is a "big strong left-handed hitting catcher that can throw on the dime," Scala said. The Smithtown West backstop has quick feet behind the plate and great pop with wood bat. |
Devin Caybasi played with he Breakers Showcase Team in the Summer and Fall of 2012. Danny Taliercio played with the Breakers the past few years. Both players played with the Smithtown Bulls for many years as well. Taliercio also played with the PAL Rangers in the Summer of 2010.
The Breakers organization would like to congratulate both players on their accomplishments and wish them luck at the next level.
Patrick Bryant Commits to the University of Louisville
November 29, 2012 – 06:16 PM
 |
Long time Breaker and current Center Moriches High School star Patrick Bryant has verbally committed to the University of Louisville on Monday. Patrick is the oldest son of Breaker Vice President and my good friend Jeff Bryant. He was a Breaker from 2006 through 2011 and like Andruw Gazzola, is one of the Breaker players that had been around from the beginning. Patrick was a key member of many of the Championship Breaker teams, including the Cooperstown Dreams Park Team that finished 8th in 2009 of 104 teams in the tournament.
|
Patrick came to the Breakers through introduction from Scott June at the All Pro Sports Academy in Bellport. He was participating in a Winter Hitting Clinic when Scott June had told Jeff Bryant about the Breakers (the North Shore Royals at the time). In his earlier Breaker days, Patrick was the starting SS and was locked into the 3 hole in the strong Breaker lineup. He pitched limited innings as a 9, 10, and 11 year old, but really did not hit his stride on the mound until 2/3's of the way through the 12 year old season. When he hit he stride, he dominated. When not on the mound, Patrick played 2B, SS, 3B, and CF for the Breakers and the P.A.L. Rangers for most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons. in 2012, Patrick left the Breakers to play for the Marucci Titans, where he made the transition to a full-time pitcher, although he did get a few at-bats. Over the years, Patrick has taken many lessons at the All-Pro Sports Academy with Scott June and Neal Heaton.
|
Patrick has continued to improve on the mound year after year. He has been clocked in the high 80's and his 6'4" frame projects him well as a Division 1 prospect. He earned All-League Honors as a Freshman at Center Moriches High School and All County Honors as a Sophomore. Besides Baseball, he has played Basketball for Center Moriches High School as well. Besides excelling in athletics, he is an above average student, with a 90+ average in the classroom. Patrick was always an easy kid to coach and was a student of the game. I am glad to have the opportunity to coach Patrick for 7 years and wish him the best of luck in the future.
|
 |
Patrick wanted to pitch in the ACC. With Louisville's move to the ACC in 2014, Patrick will get his opportunity.
2013 12u Breakers Heading to CDP Week of August 24
November 19, 2012 – 06:27 PM

The 2013 12u Breakers have sent in their second payment to Cooperstown Dreams Park. The team will be competing at Cooperstown Dreams Park the week of August 24, 2013.
Photo Caption: Coach Mike and Coach Jeff celebrate with the boys as the Breakers become one of a select few New York teams to ever advance to the "Sweet 16" and Thursday Baseball at Cooperstown Dreams Park. That night in July of 2009, the Breakers defeated the previously undefeated Powder Springs Titans (GA) by an 11-3 score behind a 9 run top of the 1st that Coach Mike and Coach Jeff will never forget. Michael Burghardt hit a 2-run HR to open the scoring and Patrick Bryant hit a Grand Slam to cap the 9 run 1st inning. In the photo, Coach Mike is pointing at something and Coach Jeff "clotheslines" his son Patrick as Tyler Osik ducks for cover. Photo was taken by Tom Trifaro, who in his 9th time to Cooperstown Dreams Park and after several losses in the 8:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, finally made it to Thursday Baseball. He stated "I just wanted to enjoy the moment, so I started snapping pictures so I can remember it". Great shot Tom!
2013 10u Breakers Win Baseball Heaven Fall League
November 12, 2012 – 10:27 PM
Playoffs for the Fall League at Baseball Heaven began on Saturday, November 10, with the number 3 seeded Long Island Breakers taking on the 6th seeded Long Island Prospects in the quarterfinal round. Dante Morabito, John Acerno, and John Kearny each pitched 2 strong innings as the Breakers defeated the Prospects 9-3. Offensively, Peter Pannullo reached base 3 times, with a hit and 2 walks, scoring 2 runs and driving in another. John Kearney had 2 hits and 2 runs scored, Emma Zumpol drove in 2 runs, Nick Zariello had a hit and an RBI, and Andrew Oakland had a hit and drove in a run. The Breakers would like to thank the Prospect coaching staff again for agreeing to change the game's starting time to accomodate our needs.
The Breakers then moved on to the semifinals, facing the number 2 seeded Long Island Thunder. The Breakers sent Andrew Oakland to the mound to battle the tough Thunder lineup, and he responded in a big way. Andrew pitched a complete game, scattering 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6, in the Breakers 14-3 victory. The Breakers played great defense behind Andrew while continuing to swing hot bats throughout the entire game. Peter Pannullo and James Goff led the offense from the top of the lineup by getting on base 7 times between them, scoring runs all 7 times. Andrew Oakland added 3 hits while driving in 3 runs, and Dante Morabito and Joey Flanagan both had 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Emma Zumpol, Dylan Luchesse, and John Acerno all contributed RBI base hits to the the Breaker attack as well.
The Breakers then came back on Sunday to face the top seeded Long Island Falcons Red in the Finals, sending John Kearney to the hill. The Falcons grabbed a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning, but then the Breakers came roaring back, scoring 8 runs over the next 3 innings. John Kearney pitched a brilliant complete game, scattering 6 hits and a walk while striking out 8 batters, in the Breakers 8-4 victory. James Goff had 2 big hits, including a home run, and 2 RBI's. John Acerno (RBI) and John Kearney (2 RBI's) both contributed 2 hits to the Breaker attack, while Andrew Oakland, Dylan Luchesse, Dante Morabito, Joey Flanagan, and Emma Zumpol all added base hits as well. As was the case all weekend, the Breakers played nearly flawless defense in the final game.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Baseball Heaven Fall 9u/10u National Division Champions - The Long Island Breakers!
2013 12u Breakers Win 12u 51/75 TOB Fall League
November 3, 2012 – 09:49 PM
In their 1st season of play, the 2013 12u Long Island Breakers went 7-1-1 to win the Town of Brookhaven Fall League in the 51/75 12u Division. The club had some good wins and the coaches saw some positives as the team now moves toward the winter working on finalizing the Rosters for two 12u teams in 2013.
Overall, for the fall, the club went 8-6-1. Considering the fact that most of these kids have not played with each other and that both Chris Page and Dylan Bryant did not play due to injury, the team has a bright outlook heading into 2013.
Limited Roster spots remain for each of the 2013 12u teams. If interested, please complete a Tryout Request online!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Devin Caybasi Commits to Felician College
September 20, 2012 – 09:26 PM

Left-handed Pitcher and Outfielder Devin Caybasi has verbally committed to Felician College, a Division II Baseball Program in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Devin was noticed while pitching for the Breakers against the MLI Phantoms on Saturday, September 8, 2012 during the Perfect Game WWBA Northeast Qualifier #2 Tournament. He had been in discussions with the College since then until he recently game them a verbal committment.
Devin Caybasi attends Smithtown East High School, is a 2013 graduate, and has played for the Smithtown Bulls travel baseball for years. He played in several of the showcase tournaments for the Breakers this season and was an excellent addition to our 2012 squad. The Breakers organization would like to congratulate Devin and wish him luck in the future.
Andruw Gazzola Commits to Stony Brook
September 19, 2012 – 06:09 PM
Long time Long Island Breaker, Andruw Gazzola, recently has verbally committed to Stony Brook University. Andruw had played for the Breakers since their inception in March of 2006 and ended his Breaker career mid-season in 2011. Andruw also played for a few other teams, most notably the Longwood Lions and a teams that were coached by Gregg Sarra over the years - Titan Storm, Long Island Storm, and this past year, the Marucci Titans.
Andruw was a part of the core of a Breaker team that was very successful from 2006-2011. Amongst many things that I can write about Andruw, he was the starting Pitcher in the first ever Breaker game, a 17-8 win over the Glen Allen Xtreme in Virginia during the 2006 USSSA St. Patrick's Day Slugfest.
Andruw is a 2014 graduate from Longwood High School where he has played Varsity ball for the past 2 seasons. He has received two All-League selections. The entire Breakers organization wishes Andruw the best of luck.
