NIKE CUP CHAMPIONS!
LunaChicks prevailed in the Nike Cup, winning the Championship match by a margin of 11:1! Way to go Luna. More info and pics to follow soon...
Nike Cup Day 1
Game 1: Lunachicks vs Forza Gold (4:1)
Game 1 began at an overcast 3:30 with the weather threatening to worsen. The girls would only get in the first half of the game before the fields were cleared. Due to the length of the weather event, the game was called as complete with the halftime score of 4:1. The first scoring play of the game was a Mighty Mouse to Lottery play. Lottery returned the favor and set Mighty Mouse up for goal 2. Mighty Mouse put up a nice corner kick that Red Bull tapped in for the 3rd. Mighty Mouse also sent one in for Skipper to tap in for the 4th. Mighty Mouse went in goal after the water break. Forza was able to score their first before the whistle for weather (halftime.)
Game 2: Lunachicks vs Weston (6:0)
GAme 2 began slightly later than the originally scheduled 7:15 pm due to weather delays. Mighty mouse got the first score of the game off a defensive player. Score 2 was a Mighty mouse to Skipper play. Red Bull scored the third on an awesome midfield shot. Water was 3:0. Red Bull scored the next, hanging the goalie from way out. Half 4:0. Red Bull shot another from way out to earn her hat trick and goal 5 of the game. Red Bull wasn't done at 3, and sent out her 4th for a game ending of 6:0.
BYSL Spring #8: Lunachicks vs Sebastian (11:3)
Game 2 played on May 7th was a later afternoon game against Sebastian. They had met before earlier in the season. Luna was determined to prevail once again and end the season on a win. Mighty Mouse has the first score on a run in. Skipper to Mighty Mouse to Lottery was the play for number two. Skipper's shot attempt rebounded off goalie and was cleaned up by Lottery for the third. First water was 3:0. Skipper scored the fourth. Sebastian was able to get on the scoreboard with a corner kick play. Taylor put up a nice shot from middle for Luna's fifth. Dynamite shot for number six, Taylor assisted with the cleanup. Sebastian puts up their second score. Taylor answers immediately, followed by Mighty Mouse on the wing. Half was an 8:2 ballgame. Sebastian capitalized on a penalty just outside box to put in their third. Catapult showed us just how awesome her range is with a nice power shot from right wing to bring it to 9. The Wizard was next in line to put in a nice goal. Lottery closed out the game with a shot attempt that came off the goalie for score 11. The girls left on a high note and headed out from the game to go attack some pizza at the team pool party.
BYSL Spring #7: Lunachicks vs IRS (2:2)
May 7th would be a two game day for the LunaChicks. First up was IRS on Luna's home field. IRS came into the game on the top of the leaderboard for BYSL and were there to play. Mighty Mouse was the first to put a score on the board off a corner kick. Lottery used a defender in her game of pinball to score the second. IRS answered back in quick succession and it was a tie game at half. The second half was no score for either team, ending the game in a draw.
BYSL Spring #6: Lunachicks vs CBS (4:2)
Lunachicks had a sparse bench for their game against CBS and 2 players on the field nursing injuries. CBS jumped out the the early lead when they cleaned up a shot that the Wizard deflected. Lottery was the Luna to answer back with a hard shot from wing. Stealthy set up a pass for Mighty Mouse for Luna's second score. The Wizard was working her magic in goal, with some awesome blocks! Mighty Mouse gets the credit for the assist to Dynamite who launched it in for score 3! Half had Luna up 3:1. Lottery has a great run in in the second half to score #4. Stealthy was able to stop most shots in the second half, but one escaped her for a final 4:2 score.
BYSL Spring #5: LunaChicks Vs. Rockledge (Stealthy + Wizard + Spunky:1))
Game 5 was a home game on a hot day at Chain of Lakes. It was nice to be at home after the long drive of the previous week Some of the Lunas began game day by getting inspired watching the tail end of the U12 Punks game. This was a great game to watch and Luna carried on the Titusville theme of the day. The girls were able to sink quite a few in the net (if you total the player numbers in the title you get the grand total.) A SUPER BIG CONGRATULATIONS goes to two players: Dynamite & Chaos who both landed their first ever comp goals in this game! Way to shoot ladies...keep those sneaky moves and power kicks coming! Holding down the fort in the goal, we had Wizard for the first half following by Stealthy and then Lottery in the last half. Other goals were scored by Lottery (clean up shot for first goal of game to set the tone!), Mighty Mouse (with goals off assists from Lottery & the Wizard, along with a barely there goal and a sweet up and over), Red Bull (using the goalie as part of the play), Stealthy (nutmegged the goalie), Spunky (quicks runs and dribble throughs that took her right past the goalie for wide open easy shots), and the Wizard (some footwork that brought up to a 1:1 shot on the goalie for the score, and a fake with a turn for her second. The Rockledge boys never gave up and had 100% of their team playing 100% of the game. Good effort boys! Some new shots on photobucket.
BYSL Spring #4: LunaChicks vs Makos (1:4)
The long drive did not pay off for the LunaChicks in game 4 of the BYSL season. It was the close of spring break week and 3 of our Chicks were unavailable to play and were sorely missed! Luna did welcome Taylor to the team as she played her first time with the girls. Makos also appeared to be playing short (they had a fabulous guest player that really stepped up the pace of the game!) LunaChicks were off to unlucky start when a defensive play accidentally landed the ball in the Luna net to give Mako a score. Mako did earn their second goal with a great shot. First water break was a 2:0 score. The Mako team also was able to sprint out to get a 1:1 opportunity on the Wizard which gave them their third score. The Wizard stayed in goal the entire game and was able to make a spectacular save in the second half. A certain Luna bodied up to one of the Mako boys giving them a penalty shot in the box. Wizard made the dive and deflected it away for no score. The front line for this game put Mighty Mouse, Skipper, and our new player Taylor up trying to make the aggressive plays to put a score on the board. Taylor was able to get 1 in the net, with an assist from Mighty Mouse. Mako scored again in the end, making the final score 4:1. Catapult and Chaos saw a lot of play time today, both getting some good foot on the ball plays. Stealthy worked her tail off, trying to cover Red Bull's usual position. Lottery stayed in the backfield, covering the sweeper position. Scrappy Do also was working hard in the backfield along with Spunky. Both had some good tackles and ball movement up the wings. Some new pics on photobucket.
BYSL Spring #3: LunaChicks vs PSJ United (4:2)
PSJ came to COL on St. Patrick's evening for the rescheduled match up. The LunaChicks all had a hint of green to wear, either in a headband or a shamrock sticker, to ensure luck would be on their side. The first quarter was fast and furious, with no score by either side. In the second quarter, the goal post scored for Luna off a nice pass from Lottery. Halftime was a very close 1:0 score. The Wizard remained standing guard in goal for her third quarter. Mighty Mouse fed a pass across that Skipper was there to send in for the second score of the game. Red Bull brought the ball up through the middle to set up a nice assist for Skipper and goal 3. PSJ got on the score board with a goal that Wizard got her hands on (behind the line?) It was hard to tell from our vantage point. A penalty against them in their box set Mighty Mouse up for a golden opportunity. She capitalized, bringing Luna up to a much more comfortable 4:1 lead at the end of the third. Stealthy came in goal to close out the game. She has many great saves but one high, darching shot, got in behind her. The final score was 4:2. Some other highlights on the field included seeing Scrappy Do shut down all offensive attempts on her side of the field, along with all the awesome passing! We saw Chaos, Catapult, and Dynamite all looking nice on the field and making excellent passes. Footwork and aerials (think Lottery's tackles that had her hopping over outstretched feet to advance forward with the ball) were very fun to watch. Spunky was also working hard on her side of the field, standing up a very talented player on their side. The whole team looked awesome, and the LunaFamily was all very proud to watch our girls play! New pics on photobucket.
BYSL Spring #2: LunaChicks vs Sebastian (9:4)
~~Sunny day, sweepin' the clouds away...On our way just like Lewis & Clark...Can you tell me how to get, how to get to North County Recreational Park? Today's game is being brought to you by the number "4" and the letter "S."~~ The LunaChicks made the trek down south to play the Sebastian team for game 2. Sebastian jumped out of the gate taking shots. The Wizard had touched the ball more in the first five minutes than she often does in an entire half. Sebastian was able to claim the first score of the game. The girls were slow to warm but Red Bull got the ball rolling for Luna with her rocket shot for goal #1. Water break was a tie score of 1 to 1. Something magical must have been in Lottery's water bottle because she came back on the field fired up. In the second quarter, she scored the same number of goals as the jersey she wears! Her first shot was a nice left, followed by another beautiful shot. Fancy footwork aided her for a clean shot and her third. She finsihed up the quarter with her fourth. Other players were also taking shots this quarter but the Sebastian goalie was doing his best and blocking out a lot of strong shots. At halftime the LunaChicks were pulling away with a 5:1 score. Luna made their goalie change and our goalie-in-training, Stealthy, headed in. Sebastian was able to send a nice shot to a corner pocket to get their score rolling again. A second shot from them also snuck in, and they were trying to capitalize on the momentum. Stealthy came alive and was able to block out all further shot attempts. Lottery wasn't about to let her streak stop, though. She fed the ball out to Mighty Mouse for a score in the third. Water break saw a much closer 6:3 score. Spunky was ready for her shot in goal to close down the game. We enjoyed seeing the coaches assist her with getting the jersey on over gloved hands...lol! Lottery was first to score in the fourth bringing the score to 7:3. A penalty in the box gave them a golden opportunity and a 7:4 score. Stealthy was there for a nice assist that gave Mighty Mouse a great shot and her second goal of the game. Stealthy fed up the next assist for Lottery to close the game, earning a double hat trick. Final score 9:4. The Luna family appreciated how hard the Sebastian team worked and the fact that they took a lot of risks that forced Luna to react! We saw Luna rising to the challenge with some awesome ball skills. Scrappy Do would draw players on to her, just to send them running after she quickly sent it to an open players. The Wizard showed that her feet work as well as her hands, with some pretty footwork skills. Dynamite worked hard feeding and receiving passes. She even had an awesome shot on goal when she was there to clean up a shot attempt. If only the post would have been another inch to the left - it wouldn't have played such good defense! Spunky was a valuable player on the field and in the goal, blocking out some great shots! BeDazzler was seen making some very solid decisions from the back field that set her team up for offensive attack. Way to play girls! New pics on photobucket.
BYSL Spring #1: LunaChicks vs Space Coast (4:1)
The first game of spring season was hosted by SCU. The day was bright and sunny and the girls were ready to go.Action was fast and there was a lot of scrapping on the field. The Wizard was in goal so nothing was going for SCU. Nothing was going for Luna either, and water break was a 0-0 score. In the second quarter LunaChicks were working hard at their passing game and were able to get our newest LunaChick (hmmm...let's call her Skipper) fed the ball for Luna's first goal of spring! Halftime was a 1-0 score.Goalie change for the back half of the game put Stealthy in goal. Unfortunately, one tipped off her hands and tied the score up. The boys were picking up their game and Luna needed to come alive. They did just that! Mighty Mouse sent a shot off from left wing and Skipper hopped right up into the inner-strike zone to tap it in for goal 2. Mighty Mouse also gets credit for a sweet shot for goal 3 and 4. On the fourth it was a great assist from Red Bull that set up the shot. Game ended on a 4-1 score. We saw some great playing from all the girls. New pics added - photobucket link.
BYSL Game 10: Congrats goes to Tsunami
Game 10 was not the way anyone wanted to see Luna end the season, but when it comes to kids anything can happen. Tsunami got out to the early lead and LunaChicks just never quite put it all together to get on the scoreboard.
It was a great learning season for Luna though as it was their first taste of a BYSL season not being a leading team. Thank you boys for accepting our all girls team into your elite division! We look forward to spring and rising to the challenge.
BYSL Game 9: LunaChicks vs IRS (5:3) YAY!!!
LunaChicks took the field at 4 pm for their 9th game of the season. The parents were talking before the game that it was high time the losing streak came to an end. Fingers were crossed that the girls would bring their passing and shooting game both to the field. Red Bull started the game off in Luna favor by taking the ball right up to point blank range before firing off a shot. Mighty Mouse followed it up by sending a pass right up to striker BeDazzler who found the net for goal 2. The game was looking great and the LunaFolks were thrilled to see that Luna was "on." The Wizard displayed her magic when a penalty shot in the box was awarded to the boys. With a keen eye on the ball she deflated the hopes that IRS would get on the scoreboard before water break. After the break the boys did manage to sneak a shot in. Halftime was a 2:1 game with LunaChicks in the lead. The boys tied it up after the teams switched sides. Then the boys were awarded a second penalty shot in the box off a slide tackle. A high corner shot put them in the lead. Their parents were thrilled to see the boys finding the advantage. They held the lead through the water break. The front line of Luna was working hard and resetting up in front of the goal to take shots but either defenders got in the way or shots misfired. Luna was starting to look tired and the spark of hope was fading. BeDazzler, with her sense of ESP (extrasensory perception), just knew that Stealthy was calling for the ball mentally, and sent it out to her on the wing. Stealthy took advantage of her opening and sent in the shot that tied it up. The game was tied and the fire was stoked. Mighty Mouse came streaking through the middle to put in shot 4 to regain Luna's lead. One wasn't enough cushion so she went for it again and made a second. Whistle blew on a game ending score of 5:3. The streak was broken!!! Some great defense was seen from Catapult, Chaos, Scrappy Do, Hovergirl, Red Bull, & Spunky. The girls showed great tenacity on the field. Dynamite was looking great up in the front as well. Way to go Luna!!! Pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 8: LunaChicks vs SCU (0:3)
LunaChicks came out strong dominating the field immediately after kickoff. Overall the girls had a great passing and field game. The Wizard and HoverGirl split the game in goal and both did an excellent job! HoverGirl showed that she was an asset protecting the net as well as on the field, just as Wizard took a break from the net and played aggressive as forward. The first season "chicks" all saw some decent playtime today as well. Way to go girls on stepping up your game against the top ranked BYSL boys!
The SCU boys were able to sink 3 goals over the course of the game. LunaChicks were working hard to get on the scoreboard but it just wasn't happening. Even though the girls had to turn in another loss it is easy to see the potential in the team to be able to pull out some wins in this division. Two more games until season ends, let's go get 'em Luna! New pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 7: LunaChicks vs MEGU (2:5)
LunaChicks were up for a rematch with a skilled boys team that had been victorious in the first pairing. The boys got the first score of the game right before halftime was called on a corner kick they headed in. Up until that point the boys and girls had been playing a lot of back and forth ball. Wizard looked great in goal scooping up anything that came into the danger zone. In the second half Wizard came out to play forward and Spunky headed into the goal. A penalty in our box gave them a 1 on 1 shot. As we all know, those are very hard to defend and that put the boys up 2:0. Third and fourth goals (with some help from a pole ricochet)dropped Luna far behind. HoverGirl and Mighty Mouse then got the ball up into offensive position to ensure that it wouldn't be a blowout. HoverGirl sent it crossing in and Mighty Mouse got the shot for goal 1. Water was called on a 4:1 score. The boys got a fifth and final score in. BeDazzler set up a great pass that Mighty Mouse sunk for goal 2. Game over. Dynamite saw a lot of forward play in the second half and had a great shot at goal. Catapult got some defensive time in, as well as Chaos. Scrappy Do did excellent in defense showing a "first to the ball, last to give up" attitude. The girls will play again tomorrow - we hope to see shots finding the net. Go Luna!!! pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 6: LunaChicks vs PSL (2:4)
The girls made the long drive south for a rematch against the Port St Lucie Boys. Within the first couple minutes of the game Luna had taken 2 shots (Mighty Mouse & Stealthy) but goalie and defender protected the net. The Wizard was blocking shot attempts and at water break the score was 0 to 0. Several more shots were taken after the break (HoverGirl, Mighty Mouse, & Red Bull) but none would go. At last Mighty Mouse sunk a shot to put Luna on the scoreboard. Mighty Mouse went for her second goal and when the ball came off the goal HoverGirl cleaned it up to bring Luna up to a 2 to 0 lead. It was the last goal of the game for Luna & PSL was about the put the pressure on. They sunk their first and got excited. When a corner kick set them up for goal two they weren't about to settle for a tie. With a back door they got in goal 3, and shortly after made it 4:2. This was the game ending score. Congrats to PSL boys on their first win of the season. The LunaChicks will hopefully come out strong with homefield advantage when they play a double header weekend at C.O.L. A few new shots on photobucket.
Brevard Fall Challenge: Semis & Final
SemiFinal Game: LunaChicks vs SCU Storm Elite (6:0)
There was a nip in the air beachside for the semifinal game at Gemini. LunaChicks started the day happy becuase they didn't have to change their jerseys (or socks.) BeDazzler's mom wanted it known that she arrived before the coaches at this early game ;) Mighty Mouse wins the award for most goals scored by a player in one game in a tournament with her total of 5! First was an assist from Stealthy. Second was an assist from Lottery. Third was a middle run in. She took it up the middle for number 4 as well. She stopped a goalie punt to drive back in for shot 5. Dynamite and Wizard were getting a lot of forward time as well and taking a lot of shots. Dynamite had some fantastic runs but unfortunately the goalie got hands on her shot attempts. Wizard was determined to make a play happen while Spunky was holding down the fort in back. Wizard was way out on left wing when she took a few steps in and sailed a ball for goal 6. Final score 6:0. Great job on defense keeping it a shutout win!
Final Game: LunaChicks vs Cyclones (1:2)
The final brought two friendly teams back into play as "foes." As always, everyone knew either team could pull out a win on the other. Today's game went to CBS with a close 2 to 1 finish. They got the first score of the game (and the mental edge) on a penalty kick just outside the box. A second shot later in the game gave them the cushion that Luna didn't recover from. LunaChicks were moving the ball forward and had a lot of shots, just nothing that was going. In the end, Luna finally eeked one out when a shot pushed the goalie back with the ball and the line was crossed. The girls scrapped to try to tie it up, but time ran out on them. Whistle blew and girls were back to being friends again. Congrats ladies on your championship! LunaChicks collected 2nd place trophies that they should be proud of. We look forward to a rematch (and plan to come out on top!) Plenty of new shots on photobucket.
Brevard Fall Challenge: Day 1
Seeding Game 1: Lunachicks vs Westside Lady Eagles (12:0)
The LunaChicks had the privilege to meet an brand new comp team with some awesome players, dedicated parents, and hardworking coaches. The Lady Eagles scrapped hard and Luna is rooting for them to continue their comp development! Luna was on fire. Their passing game was spot on and the "goal fairy" was on their side. Mighty Mouse had the first score of the game from wing position. Next was Lottery with a jig and a jog around the goalie for a clean shot. Mighty Mouse took the shot that became score 3 when it bounced off the goalie and Stealthy cleaned it up. After the water, HoverGirl was the next score when a corner kick ended up in front of her. She went to head it in but was blocked back and made contact with her stomach for it to roll in for score 4. One wasn't enough for Hovergirl off a corner and she jumped in for the next one to kick it in for score 5. Stealthy got goal 6 with a run in from left wing. Half 6 to 0. Lottery to Mighty Mouse made goal 7. Red Bull nailed shot 8. The goalie got one hand on it, but not enough for a full block. Red Bull took another shot, which came off the goalie, and Stealthy cleaned it up for goal 9. Lottery claimed goal 10 and 11. HoverGirl got an opportunity to play some keeper time in quarter 4. Lottery took the ball up the middle for the final goal of the game. Way to go LunaChicks!
Seeding Game 2: LunaChicks vs First Coast White (2:1)
The goal fairy unfortunately left LunaChicks for the 2nd game of the day. An unfortunate bumble for Luna gave First Coast their first (and only) score of the game. First Coast was playing offensively strong and Luna was having trouble getting their act together in the first half and the score was 0 to 1 at half time. Luna parents started getting louder encouraging the girls to come alive. HoverGirl got a great shot that came back off the goalie and Mighty Mouse was there to clean it up and tie the game. Water break was called on a tie game. The Wizard was playing strong in the goal jumping on anything that hit the danger zone. BeDazzler wasn't letting much past her. Scrappy Do was in attack mode all day, winning her tackles. Spunky looked great with some tackles and did a gret job using up the space and moving the ball down the field. Red Bull, as always, was strong in midfield. After a lot of rest time, Stealthy was put in on the wing. Stealthy was sent the ball and had room to dribble in some, then put up her magic arc shot that curved in around the goalie's block for the winning goal! Game ended on a close 2-1! First Coast played a hard fought game and we wish them well as they advance to continental semifinals. LunaChicks finished #1 in their bracket and advanced to national semifinals. Here's to a great day tomorrow!
BYSL Game 5: It's a close one! Lunachicks vs Tsunami (5:6)
Game 5 was a home game for the LunaChicks. The girls had been working very hard in practice and were ready to apply their lessons to a game situation. Everyone was well rested after a nice weekend off - so game was on! Lottery was the first scoring player of the game when she was awarded a penalty kick in the box. Stealthy takes credit for number 2 with a speedy run up the side and a quick shot with 2 defenders attempting to tackle her. Tsunami boys came back to score to make it 2 to 1 at the first water break. Tsunami then tied it up on a corner kick at the beginning of the 2nd. Stealthy got the goal assist over to Lottery who was able to sneak the ball in past the goalie to put Luna back in the lead. The Tsunami boys weren't about to let the girls get a leg up and came right back to score to bring it to a tie and halftime. After halftime and a goalie switch Tsunami jumped off the line to get a quick shot in and put them in the lead. Mighty Mouse put the ball up for Red Bull to score number 4 and make the score even once again. The boys scored again to put them back in the lead at the water break. Lottery sunk shot 5 to make it anyone's game in the 4th. All the parents on the sidelines were really enjoying this game (the boys' dads were overhead celebrating when Lottery got called out on a substitution...lol...the girls were really playing well against some awesome boys!) Tsunami reclaimed their lead near the end of the game. Luna attempted a play for a score but it just wouldn't go and time ran out. There were many great goalie blocks by the Wizard and Spunky in this game. Great sweeper moves from BeDazzler who really sent it sailing across the field. HoverGirl got some great runs in and Scrappy Do was tackling like crazy. The newer chicks each got a little bit of playtime and are really coming along this season! Way to play girls! Thank you Tsunami boys for such an awesome game and a huge thanks to Tsunami parents who made being on the sidelines so enjoyable! We are looking forward to playing ya'll in the future! Pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 4: LunaChicks vs IRS (0:2)
9/12/10: The soccer marathon came to an end with a loss to IRS boys. It was a scorcher outside. Goalies Spunky & the Wizard held the goals down to just two with the help of sweeper BeDazzler and defense from Catapult, Scrappy Do, HoverGirl, & Red Bull. Front line was working hard and got into position for a few shots on goal but nothing was going. Wizard looked great up front, putting in a few good runs. Chaos was also in as a wing, along with Stealthy. Lottery, Mighty Mouse and some front play for HoverGirl. Red Bull had a few near miss shots on goal from penalty kicks. BeDazzler was playing tough and got her feet swiped out from under her in the 2nd quarter causing her to hit the ground hard. She headed off the field for a breather. After the half-time break she was back in, holding their offense back. The girls knew playing in Class A Boys would no longer be "easy street." We are looking forward to seeing how they step up their game for rematches and know they will come out the backside of this season an even stronger team! Go Luna! New pics on photobucket.
BYSL GAME 3: LunaChicks vs MEGU (2:7)
Perhaps it was the fact that the girls were on competitive game 8 in as many days (big yawn from the parents side) but LunaChicks were struggling to get their heads in the game up against the MEGU coed team. With a talented team to play against, Luna was making too many mistakes (perhaps a bit of soccer overload came in to play) to keep it close. MEGU jumped out to an early lead that Luna never did recover from. They were taking shots at every opportunity and racking up the points. Before the half Luna did manage to get one in when Stealthy got a ball bumbled off a defender and tapped it into the net. Halftime was a 5-1 score. Scrappy Do was playing some great defense and winning many tackles but the team just wasn't building their plays. In the second half MEGU ran the score up to 7 and Luna finally did manage to get a 2nd goal in before time ran out. Stealthy was out on left wing when the ball got sent to her. She had all the time in the world to position it for her right foot and the unstoppable shot on goal. We love seeing Stealthy stepping her play up a notch this season - keep it up! Congrats to MEGU for a game well played. Luna, let's get some sleep tonight - we've got another comp. game tomorrow. New pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 2: LunaChicks lose a close one to SCU Boys (0:1)
The Lunachicks headed to VRP for a Thursday evening game against the U11 Space Coast Boys Team. It was a rescheduled game due to one missed to play the Hurricane Classic.
It was a very close game and almost ended in a 0 to 0 tie. Both teams were getting some shots off, but either goalie blocks or lucky/unlucky breaks kept the game scoreless until the fourth quarter. Both teams were showing aggression and one touch control of the ball. In the fourth the SCU boys got off a shot that the goalie got her hands on, but unfortunately not enough for the full block and it bumbled into the goal. Time ran out as LunaChicks tried to make an offensive push to tie it up. A few new shots on photobucket.
Labor Day Challenge: Final Day
SEMI-FINAL: LUNACHICKS VS PARKLAND PREDATORS (4:0) On the third and final day (with another early wakeup) LunaChicks took the field at Gemini to secure their spot in the championship match. HoverGirl was playing a strong right wing and nailed the first score of the game. The threesome of Stealthy, Mighty Mouse, and Lexy passed it around giving Lexy the shot for goal 2. The rest of the first half remained scoreless. BeDazzler, Scrappy Do, Spunky, & Red Bull were stopping everything that hit the defensive half of the field. What managed to get by was scooped right up by the Wizard. In the second half, Spunky sent the ball out from the defensive zone straight up to Lexy who juked a few players for a clean shot and goal 3. Mighty Mouse put up a great corner kick that Red Bull tapped in for the final goal. LunaChicks advanced to the championship match!
CHAMPIONSHIP: LUNACHICKS VS WELLINGTON WAVE BLUE (5:0) Rain was falling as the time arrived for the rematch between Luna & Wellington. The field was wet and the ball would be slippery. First quarter went by scoreless. Wellington came out in attack mode but all shots put anywhere near the goal were pounced on by the Wizard. Near the end of the second half, the horn was blown and everyone had to clear the field due to weather. The rain delay lasted about an hour, but LunaChicks came back to field ready to fight! Red Bull sank the first shot off a penalty kick. Mighty Mouse had the corner kick that went to Red Bull, and off to Lexy who put it in for the score. The Wizard was performing awesome, sacrificing to make every save. Lexy got around a few Wellington girls to get out in front for a clear run to goal 3. Wellington was working hard to come alive and net a score, and it looking like they had the chance when Wizard had a block that caught her on the side of the net. But in went Spunky with a body block to make the save and shut down their scoring attempt. Lexy had 2 scores in the game and a hat trick looming...when she ran into the box and got her feet taken out from her by the goalies attempt to dive for the ball. While Lexy hit the ground, the ball kept rolling forward and Mighty Mouse was there to guide the ball into the net. Lexy made her hat trick when she got a run off a throw in for the last score of the day. Whistle blew on a shut-out championship win for LunaChicks! Couldn't ask for any better ending to the tournament. It was a long, hard-fought weekend for all the teams involved! A big thank you to Lexy & Julia for letting Luna adopt them, as well as their families for joining us this weekend!!! WAY TO GO LUNA!!! Pics on photobucket.
Labor Day Challenge: Day 2
GAME 3: LUNACHICKS VS. PARKLAND PREDATORS (3:2) Another day of tournament play, and another early wake-up call for the LunaChicks. Generally the "Murphy's Law" for Luna is earliest game and furthest field from the parking lot and that held true for this morning. I don't know what is in the water in Parkland, but they grow 'em tall there. The girls from down south showed up looking fierce. It would turn out to be a well-fought game.Lottery was working hard at getting in the zone, and made the first score of the game. Julia set the ball up for Lexy to take a great shot on goal for score 2. Those girls had their dual radar in full swing, as they made a second scoring play on the Julia to Lexy pass. Half-time had Luna out to the early lead of 3-0. Parkland had the first score of the second half. Lexy and HoverGirl made the next play that hit the net, but didn't count as it was called offside. A penalty in the box gave Parkland a scoring opporunity in the fourth. They capitalized, bringing it up to a close 3-2. Game ended on that score. Spunky was in goal the entire game, showing just how awesome this "new goalie" can be!
GAME 4: LUNACHICKS VS. WELLINGTON WAVE (2:2) The sidelines were buzzing as everyone knew this game was very well-matched, just as the score reveals. HoverGirl was the first to score on a powershot that tipped in off the top of the goalie's fingertips. A penalty kick gave them the change to tie it up. Wizard had a great block attempt but it also tipped in off fingers. HoverGirl was on fire and determined to answer back. While setting up for a perfect cross attempt their defender got a foot on the ball that sent in back into their net giving Luna score 2. Half was called on a 2-1 score. Wellington was awarded another penalty kick (in the box) but they overshot the top of the goal. Wizard was in perfect position to block it had it been a bit lower. Defense held all of 3rd, keeping the score 2-1. Red Bull, Scrappy Do, Julia, BeDazzler as Sweeper were in great form. A corner kick in the final minute allowed Wellington to tie it. LunaChicks looked great the entire game and definitely "won" in turns of keeping it on the offensive half of the field. Both teams, I'm sure, are looking forward to the opportunity for a rematch tomorrow! Mighty Mouse is said to be on her way home from Atlanta, so we are looking forward to having her support!
Let's go LunaChicks! New pics on photobucket.
Labor Day Challenge: Day 1
GAME 1: LUNACHICKS VS COOPER CITY COBRAS (7:2) 10 original LunaChicks (missing Mighty Mouse & Chaos) and 2 LunaFriends (CBS's Lexy & Julia) took to the field for an early game. The temperature was great but LunaChicks were ready to prove they could heat things up! Lexy was out first as a key player making an assist to Lottery for goal 1. Cobras were able to tie things up quickly when awarded a penalty kick that barely made it over Wizard's fingertips. Lexy took a shot for what would turn out to be a second score when it rebounded off the goalie and Lottery finished it off. Waterbreak was a very close 2-1 score. No score was allowed in the second quarter by either team. Lexy showed some awesome footwork in the third as she zigzagged right around players for a clean shot at the goal for score 3. Red Bull, Stealthy, & Lexy got some triangle passing going on that Lexy landed in the net for score 4. Cobras were looking dangerous approaching the goal when streaking down the field, HoverGirl crashed right down on any goal attempt they had. Stealthy put the moves on as well, snaking around a player to get way out in front. The goalie drew over to the right, so Stealthy put it up in top left for score 5. Water break called on 5-1 score. HoverGirl was getting some forward play in the second half, so she was determine to find the money as well, landing goal 6. Julia put up a sweet corner shot that HoverGirl anticipated perfectly to tap on in for goal 7. Cobras finished strong putting a second shot in for a final 7 to 2 score. Excellent goalie jobs by Wizard in first half and Spunky in the second!
Game 2: LUNACHICKS VS FORZA GOLD(7:0) It was hot and sticky but the girls were all excited to be playing a second game. Wizard brought some warpaint to inspire some great team spirit. Lexy gets credit for the first goal of the game when BeDazzler booted a goal kick across the field to her. Forza tried to answer back but the Wizard used her body and dove right on a ball as the player was kicking it to make the save. Red Bull scored goal 2 hitting in a corner kick. Lottery had goal 3 off a fantastic pass from HoverGirl that put her in position to make a run out in front of everyone. Stealthy got the assist on goal 4, sending it to Lexy to make the shot. Red Bull was next, kicking in a penalty shot from a handball, for goal 5. Halftime was 5-0. Defense saw some great saves out of the back from players Catapult & Scrappy Do, trying to make sure the game went easy on the goalies. Dynamite was playing up in wing position and showing she has all the right moves to play tough and make the steal. Stealthy takes credit for goal 6 with a shot that played a little pinball with a defender (face?) Final score of the game went to Lottery off an assist from Lexy.
There was no hat trick yet in a single game; I think they are saving that for tomorrow. The day was way too full of awesome tackles to even remember them all - way to go girls!!! New pics on photobucket.
BYSL Game 1: 8/28/10 LunaChicks defeat Port St. Lucie 5:2
LunaChicks got the luxury of having home field advantage for their first BYSL fall season game. The PSL boys made the long haul north to take on the girls.
Spunky took to the goal for the first half and she was looking great! She has some blocks and one superb catch to shut down an in-the-air attempt. She only allowed one goal in during her half of play and that was one she go back doored on. Great play for a new goalie!!!
The first goal of the game belonged to the LunaChicks when Mighty Mouse got out front and center for the shot. Mighty Mouse was also in on scoring again with the assist for goal 2. She sent it across the front of the net for BeDazzler to tap in. This is the point they came back and got on the scoreboard. Scrappy Do said "oh no they didn't" and sent the ball up to Mighty Mouse for the answering goal bringing it up to 3-1 at water break. Second quarter was no score thanks to great defense from the LunaChicks. Spunky was able to end the quarter and her time in goalie on a blocked goal attempt.
Wizard donned the goalie gear for the second half. She also only allowed one goal in an entire half of play, shutting down most shot attempts. Wizard is known for her keen ability to know where the ball is headed and get in its way. Mighty Mouse was anxious to earn her hat trick, so anxious she blew past the last defender for a "no score" goal due to offsides. Third quarter ended with no score as well. In the 4th quarter the girls finally capitalized on a corner kick attempt (after several no-gos earlier in the game.) The ball came in from the corner kick then was sent up high straight in the air. BeDazzler anticipated where it would land and scrapped her way into getting it past the goal line. PSL then came back with an scoring play to bring them up to 2. But Mighty Mouse wasn't about the let the whistle blow without her hat trick...and she took off again streaking up from the middle for goal 5. Wizard kept every other attempt blocked to end the game on a 5-2 win.
As always, we saw strong play from Red Bull. She intercepted a great many of their punts and was a key player in setting up passes that sent the ball forward. Chaos was showing she wasn't afraid of the boys tackling the ball from them. Dynamite had some awesome moves on right wing forward, showing her speed and talent. Catapult was also on the ball, putting pressure on the boys from defense as well as offense in the game. HoverGirl and Lottery also shone on the field. HoverGirl was a key defender that was often used as a drop that could send the ball way up the field to the forward. Lottery wasn't giving up on any tackle and she was working hard the whole time she was on the field.
TONS of great shots on photobucket (including Coach in his purple sparkly headband!)! Way to play girls!!!
Hurricane Classic Day 2
Game 3: LunaChicks vs Cyclones
The day started with the classic rivalry of TSC vs CBS. Today, the game belonged to the LunaChicks. The first score of the game set the tone for the girls to play all out, all the time. BeDazzler put up an awesome cross from the left to Stealthy coming in from right wing which drew the goalie towards her. Stealthy put it up and nailed it in the left side of the set. After a lot of scrapping, the score at the end of the quarter was 1-0. Mighty Mouse claims the score in the 2nd quarter, moving and and a'groving up the field to drive in goal 2. CBS began their come back run and scored their first. Half was 2 to 1. The third quarter was scoreless. The fourth quarter was just as scrappy as the rest of the game. Lottery was about to hit goal 3 home with a power shot and a bit of pinball action. Mighty Mouse and Stealthy were in sync this quarter. Mighty Mouse set up a pass to Stealthy that scored goal 4. Stealthy tried to return the favor with a superb pass that had Mighty Mouse flying up from behind 2 defenders to receive the ball. She couldn't capitalize because it was whistled offside. The game also saw some great attempted shots from Red Bull, Stealthy, Mighty Mouse and more. Game blew soon thereafter on a 4-1 score! Way to go LunaChicks!!!
Championship Game:
Highlights included an awesome goal from Lottery and some crazy scrapping from Chaos (Myranda... apparently that is what some teammates wanted to nickname here.) We got to see both Spunky & HoverGirl in goal for their first time in competition. They had some great saves and played excellent! Way to go girls! Dynamite, Catapult, & Chaos showed some fire in their play this weekend for their first comp. tournament - we are glad to see the girls out their scrappin' with their more experienced teammates - keep it up ladies!!! (As always - new pics on photobucket link)
Hurricane Classic
August 21, 2010
LunaChicks had an outcome of 1:1 on their first day of play at the Hurricane Classic.
Highlights of Game 1: Goal 1 scored on a pass from Lottery to BeDazzler who shot towards goal and had Mighty Mouse there to ensure that it went into the net. Goal 2 was a pass forward from Lottery that Mighty Mouse received and shot. Scrappy Do was the assist pass on goal 3 up to Lottery on left wing with a sweet shot. 1st quarter ended 3-0. 2nd quarter brought 2 more goals. Goal 4 was a hat trick for Mighty Mouse off an assist from Stealthy. Goal 5 was a corner kick play with Stealthy kicking in towards Red Bull that was shot into the net. Halftime was 5-0. Third quarter started and ended with Stealthy taking the ball up the wing and around a defender for the ending goal. Game was called at a 6-0 score.
Game 2: Highlights here involved a couple attempted shots and a handful of great saves by the Wizard. But in the end, this game belonged to Krush. Hopefully Luna will be able to have a rematch on Day 2 to see if they can turn their momentum around.
ESPN Memorial Shootout Championship
May 31, 2010 (Memorial Day)
Championship Match:LunaChicks vs Miami Premier
After advancing past the semis in the morning the LunaChicks were slated to take on Miami Premier.
The game brought some rain, some sun, and some tough play! The first quarter was scoreless with the Wall stopping any shots that made it past defenders to her. We once again were having a more offensive than defensive quarter, but none of the shots would go.
In the second quarter, Mighty Mouse came steaming down the right wing looking for a shot at goal. Stealthy was in perfect postion "waiting on the porch at the back door." Mighty Mouse sailed it across and Stealthy sent the ball into the "house." Luna took the lead 1-0. In the third, Miami Premier tied it up with a shot of their own.
The game ended the same way the semis had that morning: it was a tie - going to pk's.
RedBull, HoverGirl, and BeDazzler had all made their penalty shots and the game was at a tie when Lottery was up to kick. Their goalie made an illegal play before Lottery touched the ball, so the ref determined it should be reshot. Lottery found money when she "rescratched her ticket." LunaChicks had won the GOLD!!! They were crowned U10 CUP GIRLS CHAMPIONS!!!
