WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE LUYAA PREDATORS
Our pool of wrestlers come from the Frederick County, Maryland area - primarily the Linganore, Oakdale, and Urbana school districts. However, we accept wrestlers from other areas as well - first time beginners or experienced wrestlers. Over the past few years, our squad size ranges between 70 and 80 wrestlers (79 in the 2010 season). This past year, we split the kids into 3 separate squads based on age, weight, and experience. Our primary practice venues were Urbana High School and Gold's Gym. We also held "OPEN MATS" on Monday evenings throughout the summer months and school year leading up to the start of the season. This allows for kids who have never wrestled before to come try out the sport and see if they like it. It also is set up for the experienced kid to "keep the rust off" and wrestle kids of their caliber in the off season.
The Predators wrestle in the Mason Dixon League (MDL). This is a very competitive junior league to teach kids how to wrestle. Our squads consists of wrestler's that are between the ages of 6 through 13, yet we will accept kids as young as 4 and 5 under certain circumstances . The MDL consists of 20 teams from four states (Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania) that compete in the Mason Dixon Wrestling League.
We typically start practice in mid-November and continue through mid-March. The MDL season typically starts the first weekend of January and ends with the Championship Tournament the 2nd weekend of March. We sponsor the kids to wrestle in several tournaments throughout the season including several Novice tournaments, and for the advanced wrestlers, experienced tournaments, the Maryland State Tournament, and several team dual meet tournaments.
