The Madison Park Girls Softball League has been in existence since 1964. Annually we provide recreational softball opportunities to over 200 families from Old Bridge Township. We offer four separate age brackets for girls who are between the ages of 5 and 17. Our philosophy is to provide a safe and enjoyable outlet for the girls to play in, while fostering the development of social skills. Our emphasis is on playing the game and not necessarily the competitive aspect of the game.
Our program started when a small group of parents approached then Councilwoman Esther Messinger about starting a softball league for the girls in town. Little League baseball had come to Old Bridge a few years before, and parents were looking to establish a place where their daughters could play too. Working on our behalf with funds made available by the Township of Old Bridge, the fields behind Madison Park School were developed into softball fields. The Madison Park Girls Softball League officially started play in 1964, and to this date we still continue call the fields behind Madison Park School our home.
Through the years our League has grown from a small start-up program to having over 200 families participate annually. We continue to be the only “girls-only” softball/baseball program in Old Bridge. Other leagues may have added a softball component, however the primary focus is still the boys program. We started out as a girls program, and for the past 48 years have continued in that mission.
