***************PRACTICE INFORMATION FOR THE SPRING***************** Schedule...we will be outside 3:00-5:15 on a daily basis. If we can't play outdoors practice times will be on a day-by-day basis.
***************PRACTICE INFORMATION FOR THE SPRING***************** *Make sure you prepare for either and indoor or outdoor workout at 3:00 or 5:00. Outdoor varsity practices will generally run from 3:00-5:15 while indoor practices are usually from 3:00-5:00 or 5:00-7:00. The JV and Freshman schedule is generally the same as varsity.
Preparing for spring practices: 1. Players must wear pants to all practices, sleeves for outdoor practices, and hats to each workout. Baseball pants are preferred and available for cheap at most sporting goods stores. 2. Players must have spikes for every outdoor practice and gym/tennis shoes for indoor workouts. Have both available each day of practice. 3. Players must wear sleeves when the temperature is under 70 degrees outside. That is pretty much everyday in early spring. 4. Pitchers should always wear sleeves. 5. Bring your practice gear to school everyday. The practice schedule could change and times will move up if the weather is nice and practice is scheduled at 5:00.
THE MD BASEBALL COACHING STAFF The 2012 program will be led by fifth year head coach and former professional baseball player Jason Rakers, along with long-time assistant Marvin Eversgerd. Travis Gebke will lead the jv and freshman squads again with the assistance of Mark Beckmann in '12. Brad Drewes will continue to be the pitching instructor for freshman-seniors. Added as volunteers are Matt Howes and Jon Batchelor who will help at various levels. Also helping the staff with off-season conditioning and workouts is Tiger's pitcher Jay Voss. He is available for one on one lessons. Contact Coach Rakers if interested. Coach Rakers is also available for hitting lessons that follow IHSA by-laws.
The freshman team is in its 5th year and will continue to give more players the opportunity to play at a time while their bodies are still developing. This team plays a limited, but tough 3A and 4A schedule that will help them in the long run. The schedule is not as big as we would like, but most schools do not have a freshman team.
Note for Freshman parents: The freshman team was recently a new addition to the program. The team will help the younger players progress. Although there are not as many games as we would like, there are more than ever before at that level at MD. Most schools around here do not have a freshman team so games are hard to come by. That being said, we need parents and players to understand that this year will be a year to mostly refine your skills by getting a lot of repetitions in practice.
Baseball conditioning will start in late Nov. or early Dec. after school. We prefer that you lift and run with the team if you are not on the basketball or bowling teams. Coach Stiebel and members of the baseball staff will be there five days a week to help you meet your goals.
IF you are interested in one on one lessons that will get results, contact Coach Rakers. Please read the information below about your options if you want to take your game to the next level.

Mater Dei Baseball and Tradition: With an enrollment around 500 students, plus the multiplier, Mater Dei High School competes at the 3A level of competition in the IHSA. Mater Dei athletics have had a long tradition of winning since the school was created in 1954. The baseball diamond has been home to numerous great athletes. Numerous players from Mater Dei have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional level. This is a tradition that head coach Jason Rakers will hold on to. Nothing is more important to him than sending players on to the collegiate level where they can grow intellectually and athletically.
