COACH JOYNER HITS THE 100TH WIN MILESTONE
During MC Germantown's recent four game winning streak, Head Coach Xavier Joyner accomplished his 100th win at Montgomery College - Germantown. Joyner has been the Head Coach at MCG for the past six seasons and also served as an assistant coach under MCG's Athletic Director Mark Crutchfield for four seasons. "It's a great accomplishment to win 100 games but I would like to thank my assistant coaches (Jimmy Watkins, Aaron Wilmore and James Bryson) for their hard work and dedication to the program. We've been very fortunate to coach some fine student athletes over the past six seasons," said Coach Joyner. MC Germantown currently has eight former players actively competing on the NCAA Division I, II and III levels.
SCOTT LEADS GERMANTOWN TO VICTORY OVER DUNDALK CC 89-64
February 1, 2010
After losing three straight games, MC Germantown went on to win their third consecutive game against Dundalk CC 89-64. MC Germantown controlled the game from the tip and after a first half surge; they were able to go up double digits at the half. Dundalk's top player Raquis Morris fouled out in the first half, leaving the team without their point guard. "We were able to capitalize on them missing their point guard. We continually trapped the ball because we knew their top ballhandler wasn't in the game. I am very proud of the way our guys competed even though we only had about 10 fans in the crowd. This is what JUCO basketball is all about," said Coach Joyner.
Carl Scott scored a career-high 26pts. including 16pts. in the second half. Also in double figures were Donald Williams 18pts., Justin Bess 17pts. and Jonathan Taylor 13pts.

MC GERMANTOWN CONTINUES WINNING STREAK AGAINST MC ROCKVILLE 76-61
January 11, 2010
For the third straight year, MC Germantown was able to sweep MC Rockville during the regular season. MC Rockville started the game out with a 7 – 0 lead but Germantown was able to get back on track to take a 36 – 29 lead at halftime. “The game was very intense and fast paced. Rockville came out with great energy and we were not playing with the same intensity. I’m glad we were poised down the stretch,” said Coach Joyner.
Jonathan Taylor recorded his third straight double-double with 20pts and 16rebs. Donald Williams scored 20pts and registered 8rebs. Carl Scott provided a spark off the bench with 10pts and 5 for 5 shooting from the free throw line.
Germantown will be back in action when they host the Garrett Lakers on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 7:30pm.

SIXTH RANKED GERMANTOWN HANGS ON FOR WIN OVER HAGERSTOWN CC 97-89
January 6, 2010
After surviving a slow start, the MC Germantown Gryphons were able to defeat a very talented Hagerstown CC (D1) team. Trailing by as much as 14pts. in the first half, Germantown was able to use their pressure defense to go on a 10-0 run and ended the first half trailing by only four points 53-49. “Hagerstown was on fire. They shot 5-5 from three-point range in the first five minutes. I just told our guys to be patient and to attack the basket,” said Coach Joyner.
Jonathan Taylor had a stellar night with 25pts./13rebs. Also in double figures were Donald Williams 16pts., Stephen Griffin 15pts./6ast., Myles Petretti 11pts., and Justin Bess 10pts.

PETRETTI ROCKS AS GERMANTOWN WINS THE BATTLE OF 270 90-82
December 12, 2009
The secret weapon is out. Myles Petretti (24pts./12rebs.) came in focused and would not let his team take a loss to a hungry MC Rockville team. With his consistent hot shooting and hard working defensive presence, Germantown was able to sustain all of Rockville's runs. "Myles is a great player. He is the consummate teammate. He knows when to takeover and I am happy he's on our side," said Coach Joyner.
Also in double figures were Donald Williams 19pts./9rebs., Jon Taylor 13pts., and Stephen Griffin 11pts./7ast./7rebs.

HIGH SCORING GERMANTOWN BEATS ESSEX CC 103-99
December 2, 2009
On a night that looked very similiar as the last game versus Frederick CC, the MC Germantown Gryphons were able to hold off a scrapy Essex CC team 103-99. Germantown started the game off with its signature high flying dunks and draining three-pointers. Donald Williams and Justin Bess assisted each other with two alley oops in the first two possessions. Jonathan Taylor capped a 28-11 run with a thunderous two hand dunk off a steal. Germantown was unable to sustain the high energy and allowed Essex to close the gap to 50-44 at halftime. "We've started every game on fire. With such a young team, it's very difficult to sustain that kind of intensity for an entire half. The one good part is that this team is learning how to finish games," said Coach Joyner.
Jonathan Taylor and Myles Petretti both recorded career highs with 30pts./10rebs and 22pts./14rebs respectively. "Everyone knows what Jonathan Taylor can do but Myles Petretti has been our secret weapon all season. I hope he didn't get on anyone's radar," said Coach Joyner.
Also in double figures for the Gryphons were Stephen Griffin 13pts./8ast., Carl Scott 11pts., Justin Bess 10pts. and Josh Dorsey 10pts.

WILLIAMS LEADS HOT SHOOTING GRYPHONS OVER FREDERICK CC 91-86
November 25, 2009
The Montgomery College Germantown Gryphons showed why they were # 7 in the nation when they started the game with a 16-0 run against Division I Frederick CC. Germantown used their pressure defense to force Frederick into a lot of turnovers in the first 5 minutes of the game. After several timeouts, Frederick was able to slow down the Gryphons. "We started out on fire. I knew Frederick was going to battle to the end, so I kept telling my team to stay focused and it's a game of runs," said Coach Joyner.
Donald Williams had a hot shooting night and led the Gryphons with 26pts. Also in double figures were Justin Bess 18pts., Stephen Griffin 17pts./10ast. and Jonathan Taylor 13pts./10rebs.

TAYLOR PUTS MCG ON HIS BACK FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY 90-67
November 15, 2009
In a game that had several first half lead changes, the MC Germantown Gryphons were able to outscore Mercyhurst CC 58-37 in the second half. Germantown started the game out sluggish and had several unforced turnovers that led to Mercyhurst baskets. “This is how road games are generally played. I told our guys at halftime to just continue to have faith in our system and they would come out victorious. It also helps that Jon Taylor has been a monster this season,” said Coach Joyner.
Jon Taylor led the Gryphons with 28pts./13rebs. Also in double figures were Justin Bess 17pts./10rebs. and Stephen Griffin 11pts./9rebs./6ast.

SECOND HALF SURGE PROPELS MCG TO VICTORY 92-84
November 4, 2009
The MC Germantown Men’s Basketball Team were able to pull out a win against a very talented Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) team by making 22 out of 23 free throws. NOVA attempted to use its size over the smaller Germantown team. That was a very talented NOVA squad. It actually was one of the most talented teams I’ve ever coached against. Our guys were just resilient and made an amazing 22 of 23 free throws,” said Coach Joyner.
Donald “Duck” Williams and Jonathan Taylor led the balanced attack with 23pts. apiece. Taylor also completed his second double-double of the season with 10rebs. Stephen Griffin contributed 18pts./6rebs./6ast. while Justin Bess poured in 13pts.
