Spring 2009 Weights Program Begins
April 20, 2009
Weight training for the Mercy Marlings Swim Team resumes on Mondays and Thursdays starting April 20, from 6:00am to 7:30am. Coach Dunworth was able to spend a great deal of time with the University of Texas coaching staff as well as several current Olympians including Eric Shanteau. Many of the girls remember Eric for his remarkable story dealing with his cancer diagnosis during the time of the Olympic Trials.
As a result, Coach Dunworth has completely redesigned the 2009 weight training program to emphasize power, speed, variety, and driven be competition!

MARLINS WIN DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Division II Results
November 23, 2008
The Mercy Marlins won the Division 2 State Championship for a second straight year this Saturday at Holland, Michigan. The Marlins had a great day in the preliminary heats on Friday with all swimmers putting in great efforts to improve their times putting the Marlins in position for a run at the state championship in the finals on Saturday.
The Marlins showed up focused on Saturday and the results were nothing short of outstanding as they scored 414 points to 302 points for runner-up Holland. It was a real team effort with the Mercy depth scoring multiple swimmers in almost every event which resulted in the wide margin of victory. First place trophies were won by Carley Sevald (Diving), Maria Bagardi (200 IM) and the 200 Free Relay team of Megan Gegesky, Taylor Steffl, Nikki Barczak, and Sato Kakihara. Numerous other top finishes were achieved by many swimmers (see attached finals sheet for timing details).
The Mercy Swim and Dive team should be commended on winning their second straight State Championship and having a great year that was fun for swimmers, divers, coaches, and parents. A special thanks goes out to Shannon Dunworth and Jennifer Blitz for the outstanding coaching job this year.
In closing, a special thanks goes out to our Senior Class:
Kathryn Carey, Chandler Foster, Eileen Frenendall, Megan Gegesky, Danielle Harteau, Kaitlyn Jefferson, Natasha Mason, Alexa Milewski, Mo Nicholson, Carley Sevald, Lauren Smith, Gillian Staudt, Alex Swies, and Anna Vandecaveye.

MARLINS BEAT PIONEER AND STEVENSON
October 20, 2008
The Mercy Marlins had a great weekend beating Ann Arbor Pioneer on Friday night and Livonia Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.
The atmosphere at the Pioneer meet was "electrifying" with over 300 excited fans packing the pool to watch the Marlins swim Pioneer who had not lost a dual meet in over 8 years. The Marlins won the meet 111-75 by showing strong depth (most often a 2-3-4 finish) in events Pioneer won, packing the relays by winning 2 events and always grabbing third place, and winning the distance events. It was truly a great team effort that won the meet with all swimmers and divers contributing to the win.
The Marlins will be off this week with the next meet at Grosse Pointe North High School on Tuesday, October 28.
