The University of Miami Hurricanes club baseball team finished the season with the most wins in program history with 15. The 15-9 season ended in a one game playoff vs the Gators for the final playoff spot in the conference. The season included breakout performances from new comers up and down the lineup who had to replace key losses from last year's 12 win team (the previous record). While the future looks bright for the Canes in 2014, they will be moving on without team president Ryan Solow who will be graduating this week and look to contribute as a member of the Canes coaching staff next season. Other key losses due to graduation include: Chris Curcio, Gavin Good, Miguel Michelangi, and Matt Corrigan.

Muraco was efficient through 4 innings and then turned the game over to Christoph who has moved from the rotation to the pen in 2013 and nailed down the 3 inning save. The Canes put together better at bats in game two and "Tommy Baseball" drove in two runs while going 2 for 4 out of the cleanup spot.

Working on a pitch count, Sal Maffei threw 5 strong innings allowing just the one run. The Canes defense stumbled late in the game allowing UCF to tack on a couple of insurance runs that would prove to be enough despite a last inning rally. Jalyn Eutsey banged out a couple of hits leading the Canes offense in his debut.

While playing 3B, 2B, 1B, and the corner outfield spots, Trevor Rohn was one of the more consistent and valuable canes in 2012. In his final game as a member of the team he filled up the stat sheet against crosstown rival FIU and garnered national recognition as the South Atlantic Player of the Week. In the offseason he was selected as a 3rd Team All American, and named 1st Team All Region finishing the 2012 campaign hitting .368 and leading the team in Homeruns (3), RBI (20), hits (25), while also scoring 20 runs.

Also recognized was J'Verne Pickering who was named to the 3rd team All South Atlantic Region after hitting .391 with 17 runs scored and 12 RBI.

Miami scored in the first inning against the Gators for the second time, but could only muster another run to see the score tied 2-2 after regulation.

The Gators would rally for four runs in the top of the eighth inning to seal the victory.

Steven Muraco tossed seven innings, struck out three, and allowed three earned runs on six hits.

Jon Cohn smacked a double and scored in the first inning and Andrew Levine plated the Canes' only other run.

Sal Maffei was on his way to a complete game shut-out against the fourth ranked Gators when a lined shot off the UF second baseman's bat wrapped around the right field foul pole to steal a victory from the Hurricanes.

Maffei was excellent by allowing just two earned runs on six hits while striking out six Gators.

Jon Cohn collected two hits and scored Miami's only run in the first inning.

The Miami offense jumped out to a 4-0 lead only to see their cushion disappear to an 8-7 deficit, but a three-run rally in the seventh inning allowed the Hurricanes to win 10-8.

Trevor Rohn smacked four hits and scored three times and Sagar Parekh added two singles. Eric Alvarado and Matt Corrigan stole two bases apiece.

Steven Ranieri threw two perfect innings in relief to pick up the victory and Rich Moriarty struck out one and allowed one hit to earn his first save of the season.

Chris Curcio earned the complete game victory by allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out five.

Eric Alvarado led the Miami offense by going 3-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and three stolen bases. J'Verne Pickering collected three RBI and broke the game open with a clutch double in the sixth inning.

Sal Maffei threw a complete game and battled through nine hits and three errors behind him to lead Miami to the 8-6 victory over Florida Tech.

Rich Moriarty and Doug Christoph had two hits apiece and Jon Cohn added two RBI.

It took 11 innings and after the dust had settled, the Knights were heading home victorious while the Canes were left dejected after losing 14-10.

Miami raced out to 3-0 lead only to trail 4-3 two innings later. The Hurricanes jumped back ahead 5-4 only to give the lead back by yielding six unanswered runs.

But Miami revealed their grit and determination by rallying for two runs in the seventh inning and three more in the ninth to force extras. However, the Canes couldn't record the big hit with runners on and UCF eventually tacked on four runs in the top of the eleventh inning to win.

J'Verne Pickering collected four hits while Brett Ponn added three more hits to his season total.

Chris Curcio struck out seven over five innings in relief. Steven Ranieri took the hard-luck defeat.

Steven Muraco tossed six terrific innings striking out five while allowing just one run on three hits to lead Miami to the 4-1 victory. Steven Ranieri entered the game to pick up the save.

Brett Ponn led the Hurricane offense with two hits and an RBI. Joe Kolodrubetz, Rich Moriarty, J'Verne Pickering and Trevor Rohn each tallied a hit and an all-important run scored.

The Knights and Hurricanes will square off in tomorrow's rubber match to decide the series winner.

Sal Maffei retired the first nine UCF batters he faced, but the fourth inning proved to be Miami's undoing as the Knights plated 11 runs in the frame going on to win 12-1.

In what appeared to be a budding pitching duel, the game took a drastic turn as the Hurricanes committed four errors in that fateful fourth inning.

The UCF starter went the distance yielding just one earned run on three hits.

Four Hurricanes (6-4) had multiple hits and the Miami bullpen combined to throw five innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits to defeat FIU (2-8) by a score of 11-7.

Kris Kosick started and coasted through four innings by allowing just two earned on three hits but ran into trouble in the fifth inning. Chris Curcio stabilized the situation by throwing three innings in relief to pick up his first win of the season. Josh Steigelfest and Steven Muraco combined to record the last six outs in order.

Led by J'Verne Pickering, the Miami offense erupted for 11 runs on 12 hits. Pickering smacked a double and a triple, scored twice, and drove in two runs. John Cohn, Richard Moriarty, and Joe Kolodrubetz added two hits apiece.

The Hurricanes do not play until March 31 when they host UCF (6-3) in what should be a hard-fought conference series.

With Miami (5-4) trying salvage the series against Florida State (5-1), Doug Christoph turned in his best performance of the young season by striking out 10 Seminoles and allowing just two earned runs. But the #4 Seminoles were just a tick better on Sunday as they defeated the Hurricanes 3-1.

Christoph used all of his pitches to keep the Seminoles off-balance, but a clutch two-out two-run triple in the first inning and a fifth inning sacrifice fly were all FSU needed to win the contest.

The Hurricane offense couldn't break free from the shackles that handcuffed them all weekend and could only muster one run on four hits. John Cohn paced the Miami offense by collecting two hits and scoring the only run.

Miami takes on FIU (2-7) this Saturday (3/3) in a non-conference game at La Ley Stadium in Homestead.

Miami (5-3) dropped game two to Florida State (4-1) by the score of 7-1 on the strength of the Seminole offense that pounded 10 hits and a long home run.

Steven Muraco saw his record fall to 2-1. Muraco scattered eight hits, struck out four and allowed five earned runs. His undoing came in the fourth inning when FSU tallied three runs with two outs thanks to some timely hitting and defensive miscues.

The Hurricane offense was grounded again as they hit into two double-plays and could only muster one run. Both Trevor Rohn and Richard Moriarty added two hits to their season totals.

Archrivals Miami (5-2) and Florida State (3-1) squared off in Tallahassee in a well-pitched contest that ended with a 4-0 Seminole victory.

Sal Maffei fired his second consecutive complete game but had to take the loss after surrendering four earned runs on seven hits while striking out four. Maffei's record falls to 2-1.

The Hurricane offense was held to just four hits with Rich Moriarty collecting two singles. The Seminole starter also tossed a complete game by striking out seven and allowing no runs. Just two Hurricanes reached scoring position in game one of three between the two rivals.

With the Hurricanes (5-1) seeking a sweep against Florida Tech (0-3) all started well after Miami raced out to 4-0 lead in the first inning.

But after nine unanswered Panther runs, the Hurricanes appeared beaten. Miami may have been heading toward defeat were it not for the bases loaded, two-out triple Stephen Ranieri lined into the right field gap. Ranieri's clutch triple opened the floodgates and the Hurricane offense jumped out to 20-9 lead.

Three outs away from the game ending via mercy rule, Florida Tech rallied to score seven runs in the seventh inning and once more in the eighth to make the score 20-17.

Miami tacked on three much needed insurance runs in the top half of the ninth, before Florida Tech answered by plating five runs to cut the lead to one. With the tying run on first, John Cohn smothered a hard hit grounder and flipped the ball to second for the final out.

Doug Christoph earned his first win by throwing four innings and striking out four. Rich Moriarty went 3-for-6 with a homer, and Matt Corrigan, Sagar Parekh, Cohn, Christoph, and Ranieri added two hits apiece.

Miami travels to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles in a matchup of archrivals this Saturday (2/25) and Sunday (2/26). FSU made it all the way to the National Championship game last season.

The Miami offense pounded 10 hits and Steven Muraco struck out seven Panthers to lead the Hurricanes (4-1) to the 12-4 victory. Muraco improved his record to 2-0 by throwing five strong innings before giving way to Stephen Ranieri and Kris Kosick to finish off Florida Tech (0-2).

John Cohn and Chris Curcio had three hits apiece while Curcio hammered two doubles. Ryan Solow and J'Verne Pickering each added two RBI.

The Hurricanes used a six-run third inning to pull away and scored in every subsequent inning to win their second series of the season.

Sal Maffei threw a complete game to improve to 2-0 on the season while leading Miami (3-1) to a 6-2 victory over Florida Tech (0-1). Maffei allowed just one earned run while scattering 10 hits and striking three in game one of the doubleheader.

Pacing the Hurricane offense was J'verne Pickering who went 1-for-2 with a clutch double and two runs scored. Rich Moriarty added two hits as the Miami offense started slowly but finished strong in the latter innings.

Florida Tech would have taken an early lead had it not been for the strong throw home by right fielder Doug Christoph. With two outs in the third inning, Christoph fielded the single and fired home beating the Panther runner by a step.

The Hurricanes would use the momentum to score three runs in the next frame and three more times in the last two innings.

Miami (2-1) dropped their first game of the year by a score of 19-9 as FIU (1-2) pounded 17 hits.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning thanks to a towering two-run double by Rich Moriarty but it was all downhill from that point.

Doug Christoph (0-1) took the loss and Kris Kosick and Stephen Ranieri combined in relief to finish the game.

Andrew Levine tallied two more hits giving him the team lead.

The Hurricanes travel to Melbourne this weekend (February 18-19) to open conference play against the Florida Tech Panthers (0-0).

With two outs and the bases loaded with Golden Panthers, the FIU batter drilled a would-be ground ball single up the middle only to be gloved by a diving Trevor Rohn. Rohn would go on to flip the ball to second giving the Hurricanes the 6-5 win.

The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Golden Panthers of Florida International by a score of 6 to 2 on Opening Day.

Sal Maffei (1-0) shut down FIU's offense over six innings by striking out eight while only allowing two earned runs on three hits. FIU failed to record a hit after the second inning and went down in order over the last four innings. Chris Curcio retired the last three hitters to seal the victory.

The Hurricane offense mustered just one hit for the game but thanks to five walks and three hit batters in the first frame, Miami scored all of their six runs in the first inning.
