The BARREL HOUSE . . Independence Bowl IV Edition

June 20, 2014

THIS . . . . is the BIG ONE.  For the Whole Enchilada .... for ALL the marbles .... The whole megilah ... ALL. OF. IT.  And, it comes down to the MIFL's Last Two Teams Standing:

THE RED CITY OUTLAWS, from Reading, PA ...AND... the STEEL CITY STAMPEDE, from Bath, PA!

You wanna talk about two evenly-matched teams?  Well, this is it.

The RCO ran the Regular-Season table.  The only "burp" was against a non-league opponent in an exhibition game that was put together fast, when, originally, THAT game was probably not going to happen.  So, a sidelined-with-injury player here, another player who was not available there, and so forth, and, okay.  One little, small, tiny, minor blemish on an otherwise SOLID, ALL-WINS Season!
THEN . . . when the North Philly HURRICANES blew in to town two weeks ago?  The OUTLAWS dug their heels in....DEEP.  They got hit ... and they'd hit back.  They'd get hit again!  And . . . . they hit back harder.  NEVER SAY DIE.  Like an outlaw, out west, in the 1800s; they found a way to come out on top. And if there were some banged up bodies in the process, then, that's just how it is.  And, there WAS a lot of beatin', Bangin' and carryin' on.  Just 3 points determined the game.

The SCS were a super-formidable force this year as well.  Darn near a mirror image of the RCO!  Again, but for a wee, small, little burp here and there, the STAMPEDE would have run the table too.  BUT, as it was, they were stout enough to get the #2 Seeding for the post-season.  And, as a result, they ALSO got the Quarter-Final Saturday BYE.  And, with that, they were locked and loaded like it was 2012 against the DelMarva BAYRIDERS
The BAYRIDERS tossed it all out there on the field, and the STAMPEDE just kept taking it ... and giving it back some more.  They darn-near doubled up, score-wise, on the Other Original MIFL Team 'till it was all said and done.   And, that was after they got within a TD of tying up the game! The STAMPEDE "O" was on fire and accurate.  The SCS "D" was on the hunt for the ball.  Simple as that.  And, the outcome showed.

This, needlesss to say, is a tough one to call.

-A case could be stated for EXPERIENCE.   ...Both teams have it.

-Another case could be made for resiliency, to overcome 2 or 3 weeks of down time.   ...Both teams have done it.

-High Powered/Effective Offense and Opportunistic/Tough Defense!  ...Again: Both teams have that, too.

It's either going to come down to something odd and quirky (i.e., failed Xpoint[s]) ...or... Turnovers ...OR... Which team has the ball LAST, as the 4th Quarter Clock winds down to 0:00.

"INDEPENDENCE BOWL IV ... where both teams might deserve the "W", but only ONE will get it!"

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  RED CITY OUTLAWS 40 - STEEL CITY STAMPEDE 36

That's all of it!  Give the INDEPENDENCE BOWL your best shot!  Play Hard ... Play Clean ... Play to WIN!  And, we'll see YOU ... ONE MORE TIME in '14 (for the All-Star Scuffle, which should be a fun one!) ... 'round the BARREL HOUSE!

~M.P. "Sonny" Edwards

The TWO TEAMS are LOCKED & LOADED for INDEPENDENCE BOWL IV!

June 8, 2014

On a great day for football, inside AND outside, four Top Quality MIFL Teams came to play.  And, play they did!

In Game #1, it was the Red City (Reading, PA) OUTLAWS hosting the North Philly HURRICANES, the 2103 MIFL Champs.  And, they gave each other ALL they could handle and then some!  The lead never got more than just a few points, at the Relvant Sports Complex in Temple, PA ... a 6-point differential was as wide as it got all game long!  And, in the end, it came down to the last 1:46.  With the OUTLAWS down by 3, they HAD to drive against an extremely tough 'CANES "D". When it was all said and done, it was the OUTLAWS 35 ... the HURRICANES 32.   If it could have, it would have gone on all day like that ... back and forth . . .forth and back . . . neither team giving the other much slack.

In Game #2, it was a a bucolic experience for players, coaches, fans, friends and all the attendees! The INDOOR-Style game played OUTSIDE on a "Chamber of Commerce Weather" day in Bath, PA, at the BATH LIONS (Youth Football) Field Complex!   The BAYRIDERS were keyed and fired to do what they've done during the last several weeks.  And, for that matter, so was the STAMPEDE!  At the half it was 33-14, STAMPEDE, but coming out in the 3rd Quarter, the BAYRIDERS closed the gap to make it a One-Score Game!  Well, all that did was to make the STAMPEDE dig in their heels deeper and dig in they did.  Some big plays on "O", "D" and Special Teams were just too much to handle.  The FINAL in Steel City: STAMPEDE 60 - BAYRIDERS 32.

SO . . . in 2 weeks, it'll be the OUTLAWS Vs. the STAMPEDE for the Edgar "Duke" Mitchell Trophy at INDEPENDENCE BOWL IV!

DAY/DATE:  Saturday, June 21st 2104

PLACE:  Sun Nat'l Bank Center, 81 Hamilton St., Trenton, NJ 08611

TIME: 11am Kickoff!

You'll want to contact your Favorite OUTLAWS and/or STAMPEDE Player or Coach for discounted Ticket Vouchers for that day's games.  Yes; GAMES!  Your $10 Ticket Voucher (redeemable for an ACTUAL Ticket at the Will Call Window on Game Day) is good for BOTH "Independence Bowl IV" and the TRENTON FREEDOM'S Final Home Game of the '14 Season against the GEORGIA FIRE (7pm Game Time).

So, make a fun day of it! Catch the MIFL Championship at 11am ... do some running around (Sesame Place is 10 minutes away . . . Washington's Crossing State Park is 15-20 minutes away ... New Hope, PA [with Great Dining, Unique Shopping and the New Hope & Ivyland Scenic Railroad] is just 20-25 minutes away), then c'mon back to the Sun Nat'l Bank Center for some Top-Shelf, Playoff-Calibre INDOOR PRO FOOTBALL at 7pm!

See you on the 21st!

OH . . . then, the 28th?  The MIFL "ALL STAR SCUFFLE" is 1pm at Sayre H.S., in Phila., PA!  Stand by ... details are on the way!

The BARREL HOUSE . . Semi-Final Edition

June 6, 2014

...and then there were FOUR!   Semi-Final Saturday is upon us!  So . . . let's get right to it!

GAME #1 ... North Philly HURRICANES @ The Red City OUTLAWS

The 'CANES are looking for a Repeat trip the the Independence Bowl ... and another Championship.  They got by the BRONCOS last week, despite some injuries during the game.  They're on a bit of a roll, but how much more of a roll will it continue to be?  The OUTLAWS have had a couple weeks to rest, practice and gear up.  PLUS, word has it that there was a "Spy/Scout Contingent" at last week's Quarter Final game!  So, you've got one team that makes it work on-the-fly.  And, you've got another team that is as buttoned up and methodical as possible.

"A couple weeks of preparation is worth a season of winging it!"

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  OUTLAWS 48 - HURRICANES 32

GAME #2 ... Delmarva BAYRIDERS @ The Steel City STAMPEDE

An original MIFL Team, the BAYRIDERS, are back in Championship Run form.  They have come off consecutive BIG wins, but now the ante is upped, competition-wise.  This is NOT a 1st-Year team this week.  BUT, they've also been very dominant.  And, when they're clicking on all cylinders, they Ride High!  The STAMPEDE, the MIFL Season #1 Champs, also have had some time to rest, practice and scout.  But, the question is:  DID THEY?

"Will it be a STAMPEDE or a BAY-RIDE?"

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  STAMPEDE 39 - BAYRIDERS 34

That's all of it!  Give the SEMI-FINALS your best shot!  Play hard, Play Clean.  PLAY TO WIN!  And, we'll see YOU . . . . 'round the Barrel House!

-M.P. "Sonny" Edwards

MIFL PLAYOFFS ... The 2nd Sesaon is Under Way!

June 1, 2014

The MIFL's Season #3 Post-Season is UNDER WAY!  AND . . . The QUARTER-FINAL GAMES are in the books.

-GAME #1 Results: Hurricanes 33 - Broncos 32
-GAME #2 Results: Bayriders 52 - Phantoms 12

With that, the MIFL SEMI-FINALS are next, this coming Saturday, June 7th.

Here are the match-ups for Semi-Final Saturday:

-Semi-Final Game #1: North Philly HURRICANES @ Red City OUTLAWS (1pm)

-Semi-Final Game #2: Delmarva BAYRIDERS @ Steel City STAMPEDE (4pm)

THESE two games will determine which teams will advance to INDEPENDENCE BOWL IV, the MIFL Championship and the coveted Edgar "Duke" Mitchell Trophy!

THAT game will be on Saturday, June 21st ...11am Kickoff at the Sun National Bank Center, 81 Hamilton Street, Trenton, NJ 08611!

Let's GEAR UP!

Will it be a Repeat for the 'CANES?  OR ... a 2nd Ch'ip for the STAMPEDE?  It could VERY well be a 1st MIFL Title for the other "MIFL ORIGINAL" team, the BAYRIDERS.  AND, the way they've played all season, it just may be the OUTLAWS who bring home the hardware!  BUT . . . there's only one way to find out!

So, see YOU this Saturday (6/7) in Temple, PA at the Relevent Sports Center at 1pm ... Then, at the Bath Lions Field Complex, next to the George Wolf  School, in Bath PA, at 4pm!

The MIFL:  EXCELLENCE IN FOOTBALL.  PERIOD.

The BARREL HOUSE . . Quarter-Final Edition

May 30, 2014

As we close out the month of May, the MIFL Opens UP the Post-Season!

The Two games slated for 5/31 should and could be interesting.  So, let's have a look, shall we?

GAME #1: North Philly HURRICANES @ Bucks County BRONCOS

Here's a game that would appear to be easy to pick.  On one hand, you have the defending MIFL Champs, the 'CANES, who just "Do wat dey do." Using the first 15 minutes of each game as their warm-up...their practice, if you will.  And, more often than not, that's all they need to get it done. And, with that, they are in the post season, once again.  The BRONCOS have looked good, bordering on great, at times this season, but have lost some games that, by all rights, they SHOULD have won. But, if you peel back the top layers of those losses, once again, it boiled down to available players and/or injuries.  And, for the 3rd time in 3 seasons, the Bucks County Boys are vying for the title.   So, really, NOT so easy to pick!

"Win-on-the-Fly? OR ... 3rd time's a Charm?"   Come to Croydon Acres Park, Saturday, 5/31 at 1pm to find out

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: 'CANES 30 - BRONCOS 24

GAME #2: Wilkes-Barre PHANTOMS @ Delmarva BAYRIDERS

Folks....this is the kind of game that absolutely looks cut and dried.  You ALMOST wanna chip in for gas money for the visiting team's return trip....BEFORE the game is even played.  But, hold on there, baba-looey . . . not so fast. The Phantoms, while not with the best record for a play-off team, are (from what we understand) keyed and fired for the opportunity to have a swing at the post-season. Sure, there's the distance.  But, that's how things go.  There is talent on the Phantoms.  There are enough players on the roster.  All they need is to (finally) come together and GEL as a unit. They do that?  It could make for an interesting game. Now, with that in mind, the Bayriders are A} on their home turf ... B} no stranger to post-season play and 3} coming off a BIG win in last week's showcase game against the Garden State CHARGERS, a team not too unlike the Phantoms:  First-Year AND finding their "mojo" as they look ahead to the '15 season.  Here's a team who ALSO would seem to "have it all."  Yet, they had moments where they stumbled and it cost them.  BUT, that was then ... this is now.

"Phantoms Fight a good fight, but the 'Riders Cruise . . . . again."

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BAYRIDERS 49 - PHANTOMS 22

That's all of it for Quarter-Final Playoffs Week!  OUTLAWS & STAMPEDE are waiting for the winners!

Give it your best shot!  Play hard, play clean and play to win.  See you NEXT time 'round the Barrel
House!

-M.P. "Sonny" Edwards

Sorry y'all ... away in Sunny Sac-town, CA for some business and it has kept me hoppin'

Been in touch, back east, and with that and some due diligence, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go . . . .

OUTLAWS @ SHOCK
This one will be a tuner-upper for the post-season for the RCO Gang.  Word is that the 1st team may get the first series, and then that'll be all.  That said, the SHOCK could zap the 'Laws and back their way in to Post Season(?).  Dunno, but it is ALL possible!

"Shock fought the 'Laws but the 'Laws won."

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  OUTLAWS 32 - SHOCK 20

KINGS @ HURRICANES
Ahhh, yes . . . . the battle for the "Ill-A-Delph!"  'CANES are coming off 2 weeks rest (Jokerz bye last wk.) and should be keyed and fired to win, as doing so would solidify 2nd place and Post-Season for them.  HOW-ever . . . the KINGS are lookin' to crown someone today, and that just may be the 'CANES.  They are 3rd place, due to a 55-point differential.  SO, they'll have to play like football Royalty today for that post-season berth.

"It's SO nice to rest, but momentum works too!"

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  HURRICANES 35 - KINGS 28

CHARGERS @ BRONCOS
Here, too, playoff implications are all over this one, believe it or not!  The Chargers are very eager for the ""W" which could very well put them in the thick of the Post-Season schedule.  AND, they also have NEXT week's Showcase Game (Vs. Bayriders) to possibly surge with some power, too!  BUT, the Broncos are back home.  In the mud.  And, coming off a Week 7 "L" that didn't sit well with them.  This could be close.  And . . . I could ALSO win the PowerBall tonite, too.

"Chargers Bolt from Bristol with a Near Win."

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  BRONCOS 33 - CHARGERS 15

--> PANTHERS @ PHANTOMS:  To be played on 5/24

--> DUCKS @ BAYRIDERS: BAYRIDERS get the 7-0 F'ft "W" due to the DUCKS suspending operations (Wks. 7 & 8)

--> STAMPEDE:  OFF (Jokerz F'ft "W")

That's all of it, folks.  Give today your best shot!  Play hard ... play clean ... Play to WIN!  And, we'll see you next time 'round The Barrel House!

-M.P. "Sonny" Edwards

POST-SEASON IMPLICATIONS A-PLENTY!

May 10, 2014

With just TWO WEEKS to go in the MIFL Regular Season, Playoff Implications abound!

Here, again, is how it works (and looks):

Each First & Second Place Team gets a berth in Post-Season Play.

The two TOP-RATED 1st Place teams get the BYE on 5/31.

The 3rd Ranked First Place Team will Host the 3rd-ranked SECOND Place team on 5/31 ... the 1st-Ranked SECOND Place team will host the 2nd-Ranked  SECOND Place team.

As of now, here's how it looks:

NORTHERN DIVISION:

Red City OUTLAWS ... DIVISION WINNERS and 1st-Ranked First Place Team

N.E. Pa SHOCK ... Current 2nd Place Team.  MUST win to stay in contention for Post-Season.

W-B PHANTOMS ... Current 3rd Place Team ... could make Playoffs by winning out and SHOCK losing out OR by Scoring Differential w/Same final Record

--> ASI Panthers and Washington Eagles are "Exhibition Teams" for 2014 and, as such, will not qualify for Playoffs.  Panthers, however, HAVE been invited to have (up to) Five Players for the All Star Clash, in 6/14.

CENTRAL DIVISION:

Steel City STAMPEDE:  1st Place but could end up Tied for first with a KINGS win over them on Sun., 5/11

No. Phila. HURRICANES: 2nd Place ... based on Point differential.  Could change after 5/11's KINGS/STAMPEDE Game.  Would need to win on 5/17 to keep post-season consideration alive.

Ladco KINGS:  In 3rd place due to point differential.  Could move to 2nd place with a WIN on 5/11 (also would be based on Points)

--> Kensington JOKERZ are out of the picture all together for 2014 (and going forward).

SOUTHERN DIVISION:

Bucks County BRONCOS:  1st Place and would retain that with a "W" in Week 7 at the Bayriders.  A "L" would put them in 3rd place (W's VS. L's)

Delmarva BAYRIDERS:  2nd Place on the Point Differential.  A "W" would put them in 1st place going in to Week 8 ... and a F'ft "W" of 7-0 over the W.V. DUCKS

Garden State CHARGERS: 3rd Place (again, on points).  Will get the 7-0 "W" in Wk. 7 (F'ft by DUCKS).  Would move to 2nd place, based on Record, with a BRONCOS "W" ... OR A BAYRIDERS "W" ... based on record.  Week 8's game, SHOWCASE GAME played on 5/24 VS. the BAYRIDERS could tell the tale for 2nd Place in the South!

--> The W.V. DUCKS, as of 5/9/14, have suspended operations for the remainder of this season.  The intent is to begin work on solidifying all team components for the 2015 season ASAP, so as to be "ready" come League Meeting time in November (or early Jan.).

The BARREL HOUSE . . . Week 7 Edittion

May 9, 2014

Week SEVEN . . . TWO to go, and it gets “interestinger & interestinger!”

Let’s look at the games on-tap for Saturday & Sunday, May 10th & 11th!

à PHANTOMS @ SHOCK …  The N.E. Pa “Backyard Rivalry” LIVES!  Earlier this week, work from the Black Diamond City was that this one might not happen.  False alarm!  The SHOCK have been duking it out as they slug through players’ un-anticipated “work” schedules.  Yeah….THAT’S IT!  ;-)  But, those who have been able, have been tough!  The PHANTOMS have decent numbers.  Which is good!  Their thing is cohesiveness.  Ability to “gel” as a team.  And, this week just may have been what the Football Doctor ordered.

“The N.E.Pa Backyard Rivalry Re-Match:  A Phantom Menace!”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTIONPHANTOMS 24 – SHOCK 18

à PANTHERS @ OUTLAWS … This one, along with the Showcase Game, just may be THE game of the week.  You’ve got TWO “Pro Calbre” teams going at it, with the OUTLAWS and PANTHERS.  The Red City gang have run the table, thus far, in MIFL play.  The Dark Cats have been busy combining MIFL Play with games against actual Pro Indoor Teams (i.e., Baltimore Mariners, Erie Explosion, etc.).  This one, too, was nearly a no-go, but when good competition is set to play good competition, ya just can’t keep these guys down!

“In an almost too-tough-to-call game, they who don’t turn it over should get the WIN.”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  OUTLAWS 48 – PANTHERS 40

--> BRONCOS @ BAYRIDERS … This Week 1 Re-Match, believe it or not, DOES have post-season implications.  Both teams have “burped” a bit, but both teams also seem to get up for a game against each other.  The Brocos win:  They solidify their 1st place position.  The Bayriders win:  THEY occupy 1st place!

“BRONCOS get back in the saddle & solidify the South Division’s top spot in MD”

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BRONCOS 38 – BAYRIDERS 30

à STAMPEDE @ KINGS {Showcase Game at Sun Bank Center, Trenton, NJ…Sunday, May 11th . . . 7pm Kickoff} … Here, is another game that has playoff implications.  The STAMPEDE currently occupy 1st place in the Central Division.  The KINGS are in 3rd place, only due to the scoring differential, otherwise, it’s a 2nd place tie!  They win? Tie for first place.  STAMPEDE win?  They continue to separate themselves from the pack.  Seeing as it’s the ONLY MIFL game going on that day, YOU NEED TO BE THERE! Get there by 5/5:30, and buy a ticket from one either the KINGS or STAMPEDE!  C’mon … help ‘em out!  Bring mom!  She’ll love it!

“A competitive game where a WIN is key to possible post-season!”

The BARREL HOUSE Prediction: STAMPEDE 42 – KINGS 30

à The No. Philly HURRICANES are off and get the default/F’ft. “W” (vs. the former Jokerz)

à The Garden State CHARGERS will get the default “W” over the W.V. DUCKS (see below)

à The W.V. DUCKS, as of 5/8/14, have suspended operations for ’14 to “better prepare for the ’15 season.”  OhhhhKaaay ... we'll go with that.

à The Kensington JOKERZ continue to hang out their “Gone Fishin’ ” shingle.

That’s all of it!  Give Week SEVEN your best shot, everyone.  Play Hard.  Play Clean. And PLAY TO WIN!

We’ll catch YOU next time . . . . . ‘round The Barrel House!

The BARREL HOUSE . . . Week SIX Edittion

May 2, 2014

Here we are … Week SIX . . . 75% of the way through the regular season!  ALREADY!  And, man, how it’s all unfolding.  Some surprises and some not so surprising!

Let’s look at the games on-tap for Tomorrow/Saturday, May 3rd!

à KINGS @ SHOCK … Three weeks ago, the SHOCK travelled to Philly and the KINGS “Crowned” ‘em.  Between the KINGS looking sharp and the SHOCK being light on personnel (due to un-planned work necessities), it was a Perfect “Royal” Storm for the home team.  The Head of the SHOCK, Nick Parlanti, was “Shocked and upset” after the game. When the opportunity to adjust the schedule for a Home & Home scenario for the SHOCK and KINGS cropped up, the league (and BOTH teams) wisely jumped on it.  No “exhibition” here, from the league offices.  This one’s the real deal. Now, the question is: WILL the Home team be the victor this time?

“A SHOCK-ing Upset in N.E.Pa!”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTIONSHOCK 24 – KINGS 22

à HURRICANES @ STAMPEDE … This is a battle of CHAMPS!  2012 MIFL Champs, The Steel City STAMPEDE.  The 2013 MIFL Champs, The North Philly HURRICANES.  This one’s a tough one to guage.  The STAMPEDE have a bit of that 2012 swagger again, this year.  They look and are playing solid. The  ‘CANES have showed their ability to adapt, improvise and overcome … for the most part!  They just do what they do.

“Is this a look ahead at (at least) ONE of the teams vying for the Duke Mitchell trophy on 6/21?”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  HURRICANES 42 – STAMPEDE 37

--> BRONCOS @ PANTHERS … Here, too, the schedule was re-tweaked to make this one happen (more below). On paper, these are a couple teams that would appear to be pretty evenly matched.  The PANTHERS, as a “part-time” team in the league this year last saw MIFL action on 4/19. They started STRONG … eased up on the throttle a bit … and got the “W” that day.  They’ve been mixing it up with other leagues and teams and the MIFL’s happy to have ‘em jump back in to the fray this week, for their 3rd MIFL Game this year.  The BRONCOS have been re-grouping and re-couping after some minor issues cropped up. They’ve buffed and polished the Offense a bit … tightened up the Defense as well and seem to be back to solid “Bronco form.”

“BRONCOS Buck & Claw … HARD … Vs. the PANTHERS”

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BRONCOS 30 – PANTHERS 28

à OUTLAWS @ PHANTOMS {Showcase Game at Sun Bank Center, Trenton, NJ…11:30 Kickoff}. . . The  only thing that these two teams seem to have in common, thus far, is that they are BOTH First-Year MIFL Teams.  Other than that, they are two teams (both good organizations, from as far as I can see), that are going in two different directions.  The OUTLAWS have, thus far, run the table.  5-0.  And, look to be the class of the MIFL . . . at least at this point.  Don’t be surprised to see them playing on June 21st.  Just an opinion. The PHANTOMS are a good group who are doing things right, one step at a time, but who have had a tough time coming out on the top end of the score sheet.  But, stepping things up and playing, looking and acting like Pros, at the Sun Bank Center just may be what does the trick!  One way to find out:  BE THERE!

“Red Turf and High Tides Forever, for THESE Outlaws!”

The BARREL HOUSE Prediction: OUTLAWS 52 – PHANTOMS 28

à BAYRIDERS @ CHARGERS is the 5THMIFL SHOWCASE GAME” to be played on Saturday, 5/24.

à The W.V. DUCKS are off this weekend, per MIFL League Mandate (F’ft “L”)

à The Kensington JOKERZ continue to hang out their “Gone Fishin’ ”shingle.

That’s all of it!  Give Week SIX your best shot, everyone.

Play Hard.  Play Clean. And PLAY TO WIN!

We’ll catch YOU next time . . . . . ‘round The Barrel House!

The BARREL HOUSE . . . Week 5 Edittion

April 25, 2014

Week 5 in the mighty MIFL!  Hope everyone had an enjoyable and blessed Easter Weekend.

NOW, it's back to the MIFL ACK-SHEE-AWN!   Let's get right to it:

NEPA SHOCK @ RED CITY OUTLAWS
This one should be easy to forecast.  BUT, you know the old saying, "On any given Game Day, ANY team can find the way to win!"  The "R.C.O." has run  the table, thus far.  And, they...right now...are the odds-on favorite for the Edgar "DUKE" Mitchell Trophy on 6/21.  HOWWWW-EVER, do NOT sleep on the SHOCK.  They have had to deal with numbers (available players, due to work) issues.  And, without that little curve-ball, they are a VERY solid team.  But, that is the question:  HOW many will the SHOCK bring to the OUTLAWS?

SHOCK AND (OUTL)AWE IN READING, AS THE 1st YEAR RUN CONTINUES

The Barrel House Prediction:  OUTLAWS 38 - SHOCK 16

HURRICANES @ KINGS
This should be a fun one in the "Ill-A-Delph!"  The KINGS are coming together, lately, and are looking to crown someone again . . . to make a Royal Proclamation that "Whomevr doth attempt to smite this 'Royal Family" shalt be smote, yea verily!"   Meaning:  "YO, We're playing for the WIN!"  The 'CANEZ just came off their first loss in . . . . . . . forever, at the Showcase Game this past Saturday (VS. The ASI Panthers, 37-26).  So, they are ALSO out to "smite thine opponent!"  This one's the MIFL "Sizzler" of the Week, because it could be some hot stuff!

KINGS & 'CANES: PHILLY ROYALTY HAVE A DONNYBROOK AT SAYRE H.S. ON SATURDAY!

The Barrel House Prediction:  HURRICANES 35 - KINGS 31

BAYRIDERS @ DUCKS
Here's one that's a head-scratcher.  And, it may come down to travelling abilties.  The DUCKS have a couple good, solid performances under their wings, and are showing the MIFL that, despite low-ish roster numbers, they DO know how to play ... and WIN.  The BAYRIDERS are anxious to get back to early-in-the-season winning form.  And, this week will be a true test of that ability. The Strong MIFL Original versus the Up-&-Coming MIFL Rookie Team!  Talent a-plenty, on both sides.  It'll boil down to the details.

W.V. PROVES TO BE ALMOST-HEAVENLY WITH A WILD, WONDERFUL WIN BY THE 'RIDERS!

The Barrel House Prediction: BAYRIDERS 42 - DUCKS 32

BRONCOS @ CHARGERS
Another one that could go in several specific ways, come the end of the game.  The BRONCOS have had a couple weeks to re-group, re-coup and work on doing what they do best: Dominate and Win.  The CHARGERS, however, have also had some time to assess their abilities, and work on marked improvement.  And, it's coming along for this 1st year crew.  On the field and off the field, the Garden State CHARGERS are going about it the RIGHT way.  VERY MUCH like the early days of the BRONCOS!  Lots of similarities, here!  And, if it all stays the course, who KNOWS what football goodness will jolt out of Jersey!  And, time is a friend.  But, for now . . . experience may dictate the tale of the tape.

BRONCOS/CHARGERS: A LOOK AT WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT THE MIFL, "THEN" & "NOW!"

The Barrel House Prediction:  BRONCOS 38 - CHARGERS 21

PHANTOMS & STAMPEDE get the f'ft W's, as the Panthers are "on assignment" this week and the Jokerz have "gone fishin'"

That's all of it ... give Week 5 your best shot!  Play Hard, Play Clean and PLAY TO WIN!  And, we'll see YOU . . . . 'Round the Barrel House!

~M.P. "Sonny" Edwards

The BARREL HOUSE . . . Week 4 Edition

April 11, 2014

WOW . . . after this weekend (and next week for a couple teams), we'll be Half Way HOME for the MIFL's 3rd Regular Season!   I JUST KNEW it would go fast!

Inquiring minds want to know the BARREL HOUSE Predictions, even after Yours Truly pulled an "OH-Fer" last week, getting NO GAMES CORRECT!  But, that's the beauty of the game!

So ... strap up, ladies and germs ... heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go!

PHANTOMS @ STAMPEDE

This one, at first blush, has the HOME Team Written ALL over it.  But, here's the thing: Up in "The W-B," the corrections, fixes and improvments ARE happening.  Granted, maybe not as quickly as Coach Ed and all his Ghoulies would like, but the PHANTOMS are no ghosts in the machine.  NO SIR.  Meanwhile, in the Lehigh Valley, the STAMPEDE have been formidable thus far, with their only loss by 1 point.  And, they seem to be re-gaining some of the Season #1 form.  BUT, as they say:  On ANY given Game Day, any Team CAN win!

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  STAMPEDE 34 - PHANTOMS 28

SHOCK @ KINGS

This one looks to be an innnnnnnnteresting one.  The KINGS came off a good win last week over the PHANTOMS.  The SHOCK lost a squeaker (1 point) to the DUCKS!  This one is the SONNY EDWARDS "Pick-It" game, this week.  The KINGS are finally at Home ... the SHOCK seem to be getting their Week 1 Mojo Back, slowly but surely.  It just may come down to something above and beyond the norm, like a Fumble Recovery, INT, or some such thing, to set up OR score that Non-Drive TD that seals it!  The question is:  WHICH TEAM will do it?!  Conventional wisdom says: "The Home Team!"  Football Wisdom Says: "The Experienced Team!"

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: 32 - 30 (YOU pick the team!)

BAYRIDERS @ OUTLAWS

First Place/SOUTHERN DIVISION vs. First Place/NORTHERN DIVISION!  In the words of ABC's Keith Jackson, "Whoa Nellie!  This could be a DONNYBROOK of a game!"  The Outlaws, one of the new-for-2014 teams, seem to have things firing on all cylinders this last week or two.  The Bayriders had a slight "burp" in Week 3, falling short against the Stampede.  Again: "Any Given Game Day!"  While the Outlaws are the Home Team, and getting stronger every week, my gut feeling (and that's a pretty large feeling!) is that the BAYRIDERS are going to give it their all, and then some.  Which could almost translate in to another "Pick 'em" game.  ALMOST.

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  BAYRIDERS 37 - OUTLAWS 30

DUCKS @ PANTHERS

This, arguably, is THE most difficult pick of the week.  After honoring some committments, and now being freed up to join the fray, the ASI PANTHERS are warmed up and set to ball, MIFL-Style!  Not having seen much of them, but having heard of their efforts, methinks the Dark Cats will be a solid sqaud, and good addition to the MIFL Family of teams!  NOT unlike the West Va. DUCKS!  Here's a team that slugged it out with 10 players their first game ... about 15 the second (w/the "W") and who are TOTALLY READY for the challenge!  This one's my "Box Of Chocolates" game, because I'm not quite sure what we're going to get, here.  I'm thinking it should be a slug-fest, though...with strong numbers being the thing that ends up being the tale of the tape!

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  PANTHERS 40 - DUCKS 32

HURRICANES @ CHARGERS

I may just have to send a "spy" to this one (got a Pre-Easter Family gathering on Sat.)!  The North Philly HURRICANES have had TWO WEEKS to practice and prep for this one.  Oh.  Right.  Nevermind.  I nearly forgot:  the 1st quarter of each game IS their Warm-Up/Practice time.  Hmmmm .... yeaaaaahhh .... 'bout dat, den!  But, hey:  So far, it's working, as the 'CANES are all "Ws" so far.  The Garden State CHARGERS?  They have some chops.  HUGE Heart.  And, a solid core of players that will make them good, solid AND a winning team.  The question is, will it be sooner or a little later?  This week, it JUST may be a little later.  I don't envision them laying down.  NO SIR.  But, I see the first half of the game going more CHARGERS than 'CANES.  I see the 2nd half of the game being 'CANES-City.   But, here's the good news for all:  The 'CANES will do what they do and the CHARGERS will continue to build and better themselves!  Ahh, life is good, if it's football. N'est ce pas?

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  HURRICANES 38 - CHARGERS 22

-BRONCOS are Off/-BYE- this week (their would-be oppornents, Washington EAGLES, are now Full-Time PRO [AIF], but are set to re-join us in 2015!)

That's all of it!  Give Week 4 your best shot!  Play Hard ... Play Clean ... and Play to WIN!  See you next time . . . . . . around the Barrel House!

The MIFL Week 3 Re-Cap

April 7, 2014

From the mifl front offices . . . the Week 3 re-cap:

outlaws 39 – broncos 28

ducks 33 – shock 32

kings 24 – phantoms 12

stampede 31 – bayrideers 20

chargers 7 – jokerz 0

hurricanes / panthers: bye (to be played as showcase game #2 on 4/19)

SO . . . with that, here's how it all looks:

NORTHERN DIV.:

-OUTLAWS   ... 3-0

-SHOCK       ... 2-1

-PHANTOMS ... 0-3

-PANTHERS  ... 0-3

CENTRAL DIV.:

-HURRICANES    ...  2-0

-STAMPEDE    ... 2-1

-KINGS          ... 2-1

-JOKERZ (inactive) ... 0-3

SOUTHERN DIV.:

BAYRIDERS ... 2-1

CHARGERS ... 1-1

DUCKS ... 1-1

BRONCOS ... 1-2

And, from the Commissioner and the League President:

"If you have NOT submitted STATS from Week 3 yet, GET THEM IN ASAP. They ARE DUE Tuesday Mornings, 9am.  If they have NOT been done, please do not complain about 'your players' (possibly) being overlooked for All Stars, etc."

The BARREL HOUSE . . . Week 3 Edition

Ahhh, Week Three . . . the first Cross-Over Week!

We’re seeing a bit of a “rhythm” starting to bubble up in the MIFL, but it’s still anybody’s game, come kickoff time!

So, let’s have a look at the games on-tap for Saturday, April 5
th!

-KINGS @ PHANTOMS … the Kings are coming off a F’ft “W”/Bye, after a Week 1 Loss to the STAMPEDE.  However, THAT was not a push-over game. No sirree!  After that game, the thought was that “Adjustments need to be made.”  So, hopefully the RIGHT ones have been.  As for the PHANTOMS, they’re back home after Week 2’s “L” at the Red City OUTLAWS.  Here, too . . . adjustments were necessary.  So, the question remains: WHICH team made the best adjustments to get their 1st “W” of the season?

“The PHANTOMS should no “ghosts” in W-B.”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  PHANTOMS 30 – KINGS 24

-DUCKS @ SHOCK … The DUCKS played Sunday night in the First-Ever MIFL Showcase Game.  Despite coming up short, they DID play well…even with just 10 players!  Word has it that more players have surfaced this week . . . which is GOOD! But, will it be enough?  The SHOCK were just that, last week: SHOCKED by the D.C. EAGLES.  Hey, it happens.  So, here too, it was Re-Group and Re-Coup time in N.E.Pa.

“SHOCK & AWE set to re-appear in N.E. Pa!”

The BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: SHOCK 44 – DUCKS 32

-OUTLAWS @ BRONCOS … Here are a couple teams that look pretty evenly matched, at first blush.  The OUTLAWS got their first (on-field) “W” last week, and looked strong in the process.  The BRONCOS also got their 1st “W” of the season in the MIFL SHOWCASE GAME.  They stopped the sniping and played as a unit.  This should be a good game to watch!

“BRONCOS or OUTLAWS?  Flip a coin!”

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BRONCOS 22 – OUTLAWS 20

-STAMPEDE @ BAYRIDERS. . . These two teams go back to Season #1 and it should be a GOOD game too!  The STAMPEDE are 1-1 and could easily be 2-0, but for a “zig” here or a “zag” there during last week’s game at the HURRICANES.  PLUS . . with #88 on their squad?  Do NOT sleep on ‘em!  HOWWWWWW-ever, the BAYRIDERS are 2-0, including a 10-point Week 1 “W” over the Champion Runners-up, BRONCOS (’12 and ’13)! So, it would seem like the ‘RIDERS are quite stout this season . . . again!

“STAMPEDE comes to MD as the Home Team rides HIGH!”

The BARREL HOUSE Prediction: BAYRIDERS 32 – STAMPEDE 28

-PANTHERS @ HURRICANES is now the 2ndMIFL SHOWCASE GAME” to be played on Saturday, 4/19.

-The Garden State CHARGERS are off with a F’ft “W” (Thx., K.J.)

That’s all of it!  Give Week 3 your best shot, everyone.  Play Hard.  Play Cleanly. And PLAY TO WIN!  And, we’ll see YOU . . . . . around The Barrel House!

THE MIFL WEEK 2 RE-CAP

April 1, 2014

FROM THE MIFL FRONT OFFICES, Here's the SCORE Re-Cap(s) from Week 2:

Red City OUTLAWS 23 ... Wilkes-Barre PHANTOMS 6 ... PHANTOMS play hard, but the OUTLAWS had the edge!
No. Philly HURRICANES 13 - Steel City STAMPEDE 12 ... A Classic "mudder" between Season 1's and Season 2's Champs!
Delmarva BAYRIDERS 51 - Garden State CHARGERS 0 ... SOLID performance by the 'Riders!  CHARGERS will be good soon, though!
N.E. Pa SHOCK 7 - ASI PANTHERS 0 ... Looking forward to the PANTHERS taking the MIFL Field ... SOON!
Buck's County BRONCOS 58 - W.V. DUCKS 32 ... DUCKS came to the Showcase Game w/10 players and worked it HARD.  Broncos, however, just did what they do.

-->Exhibition/Fill-In Game: Washington EAGLES 66 - N.E. PA SHOCK 0 ... A Pro-Caliber Team travelled to N.E. PA and Jolted the SHOCK.  And, THAT may have been a catalyst for the rest of the season in Moosic!

The COMMON THEME with the Week 2 Games was that, despite some of the (seemingly) One-Sided Scores, EVERY team came to play. No doubt, take it to the bank.

The MIFL's Front Office Staff would like to acknowlege two of our Newest MIFL Family Members, the Garden State CHARGERS AND the West Virginia DUCKS for being a positive part of the league, and for the solid work that you have put in thus far! You guys are going to be a key component of the MIFL, now and going forward!

ALSO...
-Thanks, also, to the Washington EAGLES for easing into the MIFL for the '14 season for a few (3) games! We DO appreciate it!
LASTLY . . .
-We're looking forward to the ASI PANTHERS taking the MIFL Field shortly for a half-schedule this year as they gear up for next year's MIFL fun!

SO . . . with that, here's how it all looks:

NORTHERN DIV.:

-OUTLAWS   ... 2-0

-SHOCK       ... 2-0

-PHANTOMS ... 0-2

-PANTHERS  ... 0-2

CENTRAL DIV.:

-HURRICANES    ...  2-0

-STAMPEDE    ... 1-1

-KINGS          ... 1-1

-JOKERZ (inactive) ... 0-2

SOUTHERN DIV.:

BAYRIDERS ... 2-0

BRONCOS ... 1-1

CHARGERS ... 0-1

DUCKS ... 0-1

And, from the Commissioner and the League President:

"If you have NOT submitted STATS from Week 2 yet, SEE the "MIFL FOOTBALL" Group/Page and GET THEM IN ASAP. They ARE DUE Tuesday Mornings, 9am."

The BARREL HOUSE -- Week 2 Edition

March 28, 2014

Week #2 is upon us ... the MIFL Season's in full gear!

So, yours truly went .500 last week.  A so-so start for THIS pigskin prognosticator!  So, with no further delay . . . let's have a look at the Week 2 games!

PHANTOMS @ OUTLAWS.  Here are a couple teams that, by their own admission, had some adjustments to work on after week 1.  The Phantoms opened at home for their 1st-ever game and gave the SHOCK a game!  But for a penalty here and a mis-cue there, that game could've turned out differently.  Same with the Outlaws.  THEIR First-Ever MIFL game was a good one too, and they gave the 'Canes some "what-for!" And, the thoughts from BOTH teams' leaders was that they were "this close!"

Phantoms get closer, but miss it by "this much."

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  Outlaws 34 - PHANTOMS 30

WASHINGTON EAGLES @ N.E. PA SHOCK.   The SHOCK, as stated above, got the Week 1 Win with some heady play, among other things!  The D.C. Eagles are a late addition to the MIFL Family!  We welcome Coach Lamont Gore and his "Birds" to the fray!  And, thanks for "fillin' in!"  This one's tough, in that the Eags are a bit of a wild-card.  Gonna go with my gut, here.

EAGLES FLY, but not as high as they'd like.

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  SHOCK 40 - EAGLES 32

STAMPEDE @ HURRICANES:  Now, to the other side of the spectrum.  Here are two teams that got the "W" last week.  STAMPEDE had a solid game against the KINGS . . . 'CANES came from behind to get the win.  Tough one, here, too.  The STAMPEDE have been prepping for a long time to have a run at a 2nd Ch'ship.  The 'CANES just do what they do and make it work!

HOME is where the WIN IS, in Week 2

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  HURRICANES 29 - STAMPEDE 24

CHARGERS @ BAYRIDERS:  Here's another "First-EVER" MIFL Game!  This time, for the Garden State CHARGERS.  Welcome to the fray, fellas!  Nothing like a trip to the eastern shore to get things started!  The CHARGERS had been prepping for a robust 11-Man season.  However, their would-be league was, ultimately, NOT the friendly football haven it was supposed to be.  The BAYRIDERS come off a Week 1 "W" at the Bucks County BRONCOS.  Helluva win on the road, guys!  BUT, don't take the Jersey Boys lightly!

BAYRIDIN' High, down in Maryland's Eastern Shore, but it won't come easily!

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION:  BAYRIDERS 37 - CHARGERS 28

SHOWCASE GAME...DUCKS @ BRONCOS (at Sun Nat'l Bank Ctr., 81 Hamilton Ave., Trenton, NJ):  Here's yet ANOTHER MIFL First...on a couple levels!  It's the First-Ever MIFL Game for the late-coming W.V. DUCKS!  We welcome THEM in, too!  Glad to have a solid group from The Mountaineer State!  Martinsburg...in the W.V. Panhandle...is a great area with some great football!  Looking forward to THAT tradition continuing!  And, speaking of continuing, the MIFL's founding team is looking foward to continuing this season with a solid showing in their back yard: The First-EVER MIFL SHOWCASE GAME, at the Sun Bank Center...tying in with the Trenton FREEDOM!  Catch the PRO Game at 2pm and our MIFL SHOWCASE GAME at 7 ... this Sunday, March 30th!

BRONCOS Bust loose in the First-EVER Showcase Game!

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BRONCOS 32 - DUCKS 21

KINGS have a -BYE- (Thanks, K.J.)

That's all of it!  Give Week 2 your best shot!  Play hard, play cleanly and PLAY TO WIN!  And, we'll see YOU next time ... around the Barrel House!

THE BARREL HOUSE ... it's BACK! -The Week One Edition-

March 21, 2014

Ahh, the first FULL day of spring!  Sunshine here in the Great Northeast!  Visions of greener grass ... flowers blooming ... and PADS POPPING!  Season #3 for the MIFL is upon us, a SURE sign that warmer weather and longer days will be the norm, rather than the exception!

So, let's get to it!  The BARREL HOUSE . . . where yours truly, Sonny Edwards, peels apart the opponents and predicts the week's game outcomes!

LOTS OF NEW FACES since last season!  WELCOME to all the new teams (7, if my count is correct), and welcome back to our old MIFL Friends!

Here we go:

Red City OUTLAWS at No. Philly HURRICANES

The 'Canes are coming off a Championship Season.  They seem to come together when it counts.  Not a group to take lightly, even though they may not always be on the same page.  When push has come to shove, Damon & his crew just seem to find a way to make good things happen.
The Outlaws are new to the MIFL, but NOT new to the 8-man game. Coaches Hector, Dustin, Tim and all the rest look like they have a tight group ready to crack some skulls and show their new football brethren how it's done.

This one's a tough one. The Outlaws have been prepping and the 'Canes use the 1st quarter as their "practice time."

If you anywhere hear the MLK, Jr. Center in "Da Ill-A-Delph," you'll want to check it out.

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: OUTLAWS 29 - HURRICANES 25

N.E. Pa SHOCK at the Wilkes-Barre PHANTOMS

Two of the BEST from Northeast Pennsylvania are FINALLY where they're SUPPOSED TO BE: The MIFL!  The (Black) Diamond City and the Electric City, and the whole region, have produced some of THE best football talent in the country!  Ragib "Rocket" Ismail  ... Bo Orlando ... Jake Kelchner ... George Shecterly ... Mike Munchak ... Ron Powlus (and a ton more) just to name a few.  Enter the SHOCK and PHANTOMS!  The SHOCK have been a force in 8-Man football (in the old league) for a few seasons.  And, the PHANTOMS are a by-product of "too much talent, too few 8-Man teams!"  So, Voila: More solid football in "The W-B!"

Both teams have been preparing and practicing and honing up their game.  Another toughy to predict, for sure.

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: SHOCK 31 - PHANTOMS 22

Ladco KINGS at Steel City STAMPEDE

Here's a Classic "Veteran" vs. "Rookie" matchup.  This time, it's not only players but teams!  The KINGS need to earn their name's title of "KINGS of the MIFL" by playing hard and playing like veterans.  They're a young squad.  But, that's okay!  Youth can equal ENERGY.  So, their tank is FULL and the KINGS are ready to go!  BUT . . . not so fast.  The Stampede ('12 MIFL Champs) are "Champing" at the bit for a BIT of redemption!  They're looking to get back to Season #1 Form, and FAST.  And, with many returning players who have been to that mountaintop, it may be a tall order to knock 'em off!

Both the KINGS and STAMPEDE have been getting some good work in, pre-season, to be ready for Week 1.  It may just come down to experience.  BUT, not by as much as you'd think!

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: STAMPEDE 35 - KINGS 30

DelMarva BAYRIDERS at Bucks County BRONCOS

The "Where it all began" Bowl!  Two of the MIFL's Original Teams make up a contest that is arguably THE Game of Week 1!  The Bayriders are ALWAYS a formidable opponent.  They play hard.  They play to the whistle.  They just play a damn good game.  IF . . . there's an achille's heel, it's dealing with the travel.  But, it's a new season and that could all very well be a non-factor (or close to it). The Broncos have been the bridesmaid-and-not-the-bride, now, for two years running.  Losing in the Championship Game to the STAMPEDE in '12 and the 'CANES in '13.  If they can stay healthy and avoid the serious-injury bug, this could be THEIR YEAR.  Could ... Be.  IF HEALTHY.  But, again, "Shane & Co." will have a LOT to say about that, here in Week 1!

Here, too: The BAYRIDERS and BRONCOS should be more than ready for the challenge.  And, it may all come down to who has to do more (or do less) on Game Day, prior to the game.

BARREL HOUSE PREDICTION: BRONCOS 29 - BAYRIDERS 28 (on a last-second X-Pt/2-pt conversion from the 4 Yard Line)

-The DUCKS and CHARGERS have a BYE this week (making it up on 4/19).

-The PANTHERS are now on an abbreviated Schedule with the Washington EAGLES filling in some "voids" later in the season.  Thanks to Coach Lamont Gore and all the D.C. "Birds" for joining the fray!

-The JOKERZ will not be playing in the MIFL in 2014.  Work's under way to secure a team for their spot (and games!) in the MIFL's Central Division.

So . . . that's all of it!  Play hard, play clean, play like pros and PLAY TO WIN!  And, we'll see YOU around The Barrel House!

MIFL "SHOWCASE GAMES" COMING TOGETHER ... THANKS TO THE TRENTON FREEDOM!

February 26, 2014

*****SHOWCASE GAME(s) UPDATE*****

As of 2/25/14, the MIFL and the Trenton FREEDOM Execs met to begin working on details, pertaining to the upcoming Showcase Games on March 30th ... April 19th ... May 3rd ... May 11th ...AND... May 24th.  Again: this is the FIRST TIME AROUND doing this for both the MIFL and the FREEDOM, so there are likely to be some "burps" along the way.  Let's be aware that we ALL ...Coaches, Players, Family, Friends, Fans... MUST be flexible and reasonable as things unfold.  We'll make it work.  Know that.

Here, then, is the synopsis of the latest information that was discussed:

1. MIFL Teams will get Vouchers for Tickets to sell.   AGAIN:  $20 per pair (or $10 per ticket).  Each team's goal should be to sell a miniumu of 19-20-21 pair (+/-) of tickets. This is per our discussions about this initiative, both On-Line and At-Meeting(s).   Sell more than 20 pair?  SPLIT THE PROFITS 50/50 with the FREEDOM!

It's a heckuva Fund-Raiser! One team has indicated that they "should end up selling 150 pair!"  That would get THAT TEAM $1,300.00 in their pockets!

 ***IMPORTANT***
These Vouchers will LOOK like tickets but they are NOT Tickets.  ARE. NOT.  These Vouchers MUST ...M-U-S-T... be redeemed at the WILL CALL WINDOW on Game Day(s) for an ACTUAL TICKET for admittance. Any issues with Will-Call, should there be any, will be handled ON Game Day.

--> Vouchers will be distributed to the 3/30 Game's Teams by 3/3 (+/-).
--> Vouchers for the 4 subsequent Games will be available as of Early March ... Team Owners WILL be contacted as to how to recieve them ASAP (or Contact MIFL Commissioner, John Theillon OR MIFL President, Rio Prisco if no contact has been made by 3/17/14)

2. There WILL be a time on Game Day(s), prior to the Will Call Window closing, that all with Vouchers will need to arrive by.  Details forthcoming ASAP.

3. The MARCH 30th and May 11th "MIFL SHOWCASE GAMES" are 7pm Kickoffs...AFTER the Freedom/Pro Game.  Teams can take the field for warm-ups AFTER the FREEDOM'S Post-Game Fan Session (where FREEDOM players are on-field with Fans for Photos, Autographs, etc.).  The FREEDOM Games on 3/30 and 5/11 are a 2pm Start.  So, they SHOULD be done by 4:30/5pm, give or take.  Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes beforhand (BY 5:30pm, OR SOONER...especially if you want to catch the Freedom Game).  Just an FYI, here.

4. The April 19th, May 3rd & May 24th "MIFL SHOWCASE GAMES" will be played BEFORE the FREEDOM/Pro Game.  The Kickoff time, right now, is slated for 11:30am on those dates.  Participating teams should plan to arrive at least 90 minutes beforehand (10am).

5. NO DETACHABLE or METAL CLEATS.  PERIOD.
    Use, instead:
     -->Molded Cleats (BEST)
-->Turf Shoes (with the small "nubs")

Sneakers are not great, but, depending on the sole, they could be "passable"

...AND...

Indoor Soccer shoes DO NOT WORK WELL AT ALL on the FREEDOM'S (NEW) Turf.

6. Teams will need to bring ALL Game-Day Sideline/Locker Room Gear (i.e., Tape, Under-wrap, Ice, Cold-Paks, Water/Hydration & Bottles, etc.). Down Markers and Chain Sets WILL be supplied.

7. NO SPITTING ON THE FIELD.  The reasons should speak for themselves.

SHOCK-ing News from Northeast PA!

November 4, 2013 – 09:00 AM

*****MIFL NEWS BREAK ... FROM THE MIFL NEWS-TICKER********
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DATELINE: N.E. PA (MOOSIC, PA)

FROM THE N.E. PA SHOCK DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS' OFFICE .. .. ..

The NEPA SHOCK would like to announce that the team has just officially joined the MIFL!

During the last two-to-three months, there had been a lot of talk and deliberation over the move. Initially the move was shelved until AFTER the 2014 season. However, upon further review, the SHOCK are proud to have made this decision to be a part of the Major Indoor Football League (MIFL) BEGINNING WITH THE 2014 SEASON!  This will be huge for the PLAYERS, relative to "next level opportunities!!!"

The MIFL is poised to provide the SHOCK a broader scope to showcase the team's talents. Players will now have the opportunity to get an honest opportunity to MOVE UP to the NEXT LEVEL: Professional Indoor football!

The MIFL has secured alignment with Pro Indoor Football in Trenton, NJ (The Trenton FREEDOM of the PIFL) and is also in the process of finalizing other similar alignments in Baltimore, Maryland along with other Pro Indoor Football organizations in Pennsylvania.

"We are very excited to have the SHOCK on board!" stated MIFL Commissioner John Theillon.

And the NEPA SHOCK is excited to be a part of such a Progressive-Minded and For-the-Players League! !

-- SHOCK NATION: SHAKE UP THE WORLD! --

The MIFL is poised for even MORE Excellence in 2014!

October 6, 2013

Good League/Team Owners Meeting earlier today!

HUGE thanks to all in attendance, including Dennis & Megan Williams, part of the ownership of The TRENTON FREEDOM Indoor Professional Football Team (member of the PIFL)!

To all who did NOT make it, you missed some good information ...AND... solid discussion of issues and opportunities that need(ed) to have dialogue started.

That said, in order to keep in good standing with the MIFL, going forward, you NEED TO be at ANY/ALL (2, maybe 3) meetings and/or Off-Season Game/Tourney events.  We will be in touch individually, in the coming days, with those who need to be communicated with about this.

The FOUR BIGGEST THINGS that were discussed were the following:

1} MIFL RULES/REGS:

They are too lengthy (40+ pages!) ... way too wordy ... and, as a result, no one (especially officials) reviews them thoroughly so that they know them.  Or, at least where to FIND a "topic" or "section" of the rules.  An EDITED version is currently in the works, and should be ready for the next meeting.

2} OFFICIALS:

-To the returning team owners/principals: WHAT would you do differently this year from last year?  Please reply with a PRIVATE/IN-BOX MESSAGE on FB to the "MIFL Commissioner!"

-To our NEW-for-'14 Teams:  Who have you used for Officials through the '13 season ...AND... how might we have them on board for YOUR HOME GAMES for the '14 season?  Please reply with a PRIVATE/IN-BOX MESSAGE on "MIFL Commissioner" FB page with that info., etc.

3} A NEW MIFL UNIFORM RESOURCE:

-When you get the chance, say hello to Mike Deitz (he is also included on The "MIFL Football" FB Group Page).  Along with being a part of the Lebanon County COLTS organization, Mike is also our Representative/Contact for Game Jerseys and Game Pants from DEFENDER SPORTS (www.defendersportz.com).

àTHE MIFL TEAM PACKAGE
: Get HOME & AWAY Jerseys AND a pair of GAME PANTS for $110.00!

-The jerseys feature Tackle Twill SEWN-ON Numbers (front and back) … Sewn-On Tackle-Twill Team Name (top front) … “TV Numbers” on the shoulders (also Sewn-On Tackle Twill) … and available Player Names (Top/Back … Sewn-On Tackle Twill).

-If you are AT ALL thinking of updating your Uniforms, Color Schemes, etc., you will want to give it a good look and GET WITH MIKE!  Once you complete your order, the turn-around time is just 4-6 weeks(+/-).
There is a large selection of Colors, Styles and Number/Letter fonts available!  AND, if you like, they can copy a style that may not be Standard/In-Stock item or style.

-TEAM OWNERS…Once Again: Get in touch with “MICHAEL DEITZ” on FB…and he is “IN” as part of the “MIFL Football” Closed Group.

4} MIFL ALIGNMENT WITH “THE TRENTON FREEDOM” INDOOR PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM!

Simply put: This has the ability to propel the MIFL up another step or two on the “viability ladder.”  There are TWO aspects that, if we all do our due diligence even somewhat correctly, should be very special.

A} The MIFL “Game of the Week.”  This would be where during the course of our season, there would be (up to) SIX Game-Day opportunities for two of our MIFL Teams to play at the Sun Bank Arena, in Trenton, NJ!  This is an 8,000-seat facility that is easily reached by ALL our MIFL Teams!

With that, pending the FREEDOM’S Home Schedule, the MIFL just may be in a position to hold the Championship Game at the Sun Bank Arena!  Those details are pending the PIFL releasing their 2014 Schedule (due out by approx. early-to-mid November, give or take).

And, of course, there’s a very reasonable, nominal fee to be a Game-Of-The-Week team participant: figure on $375.00 per team.
This can be VERY EASILY off-set …AND THEN SOME.  How?  By knowing the G.O.T.W. schedule well ahead of time, so as to sell $20/pair Game-Day Tickets and the participating MIFL Team(s) pocketing about HALF ($10/pair)!

This is a great and inexpensive $20/pair of tickets that gets the purchaser TWO Games: 1} The MIFL Game Of The Week and 2} that day’s TRENTON FREEDOM Pro Game! It's a Two-for-One, Football Double-Header for just $20 for a pair of tickets!

EXAMPLE:

à If Team X is due to be one of the 2 teams playing the MIFL Game-Of-The-Week on, say, Saturday, March 30th, and we KNOW this date in Jan/Feb (latest), that gives Team X  a MONTH and a HALF to TWO ENTIRE MONTHS to sell some tickets at $20/Pair.

à Figure 20 players for Team X, each sell an average of TEN PAIR of tickets. Total revenue made: $200 per player … 20 players = $6,000 in total.  Splitting the profits will do the following: $3,000 to the Trenton Freedom and Team X Pockets 1,625.00 ($2000 less the $375.00 to play in the G.O.T.W.)

à Or . . . hustle just a bit more, with Team X’s 20 players selling 15 pair?  Team X keeps TWENTY-SIX HUNDRED & TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS! ($6,000.00 in total ticket sales with $3,000.00 going to the FREEDOME and Team X’s share being $2,625.00 … [$3,000, less the $375 to play in the G.O.T.W.)

-Being a G.O.T.W. team has other benefits and “sizzle” that’ll have Players & Coaches feeling like Pros such as:

-Top-Notch Arena/Game Facility with LOTS of accessible seating for the G.O.T.W. and the same days’ TRENTON FREEDOM Games!

   -New turf to play on!

   -Professional Locker-Room/Changing/Shower Facilities!

-Medical Staff (EMTs) On-Hand at the games (and 3 top hospitals nearby, if needed)!

   -Available food/concessions/etc.!

-PIFL/Indoor Football Officials (details pending, including possible fees, etc.)

-Access to Luxury Boxes/Suites during MIFL Game(s) Of The Week (details pending)

B} Along with that “sizzle,” there is some SUBSTANCE to this MIFL/TRENTON FREEDOM alliance, too!

à MIFL Players will be in a “Minor League-type Feeder System” for THE TRENTON FREEDOM Indoor Professional Football Team!

MEANING:

If a FREEDOM player gets put on I.R., or gets picked up by an AFL, CFL, or other Pro Team up the ladder, the TRENTON FREEDOM will look to the MIFL to replace the player who they now need.

So, if a FREEDOM Linebacker goes down with an injury on Saturday, April 5th, MIFL teams and/or players would be contacted by Sunday, April 6th or Monday, April 7th to send a LB to Trenton on Tuesday or Wednesday (the 9th or 10th) for an official Mini Try-Out. The objective: to select one MIFL Linebacker to be on the FREEDOM’S roster, as of the April 12th game.

Again: the TRENTON FREEDOM is a PROFESSIONAL TEAM, meaning that anyone tapped to move up TO the FREEDOM, will get paid for their talents on the field!  Now, don’t plan on padding your 401k, but know that playing for the TRENTON FREEDOM will be a Paying Gig!

Folks, the MIFL is on the move.  On the go.  On the GROW!  And, the philosophy has ALWAYS been to “offer opportunity to our players to reach the next level.”  And, other similar "Next Level" opportunities with Pro Indoor Football Organizations are ALSO in the works in PA and in the Baltimore, MD area.

We now have new, better, more direct mechanisms to offer such bona fide opportunities.  Not many...IF ANY...semi-pro leagues can say that, let alone back it up.

Ultimately, it’ll be up to the MIFL’s Coaches and Players to capitalize on these opportunities! But, unlike other seemingly similar leagues, these opportunities are Rock Solid and Football Smart!   And, with that, the MIFL Front Office Administration (League President, Rio Prisco and Commissioner, John Theillon) are available to assist however they can.

Along with being ONE BIG TEAM OF MULTIPLE, TEAMS, the MIFL is . . . . . . . . . . . Football Excellence.  PERIOD.

INDEPENDENCE BOWL III: Put it in the books! And, the 2013 MIFL Champions are . . . .

June 16, 2013

Dateine: White Marsh, MD ... Freestate Sports Arena

The MIFL's Championship Game, INDEPENENCE BOWL III for the Duke Mitchell Trohpy, was some kind of game!  There was buckin' and bumpin' through a storm of Tropical Storm-force, hard-nosed football!

This was a game that was played hard by two teams.  One team was firing on all cylinders virtually all game long while the other was "this close" to being as perfect as they needed to be.

In the end, in a solid game by both the Bucks County BRONCOS and the North Philly HURRICANES, it was the 'CANES whose storm caused the most damage ... wreaked the most havoc ... came out on top.

The FINAL SCORE From INDEPENDENCE BOWL III North Philly HURRICANES 41 Bucks County BRONCOS 20

Great season to both teams ... and to ALL the MIFL Players, Coaches, Team Owners .. .. .. EVERYONE!

NOW . . . just One Game to go:  SEMI-PRO BOWL I!  The MIFL's All-Star Game!

The MIFL's INDEPENDENCE BOWL, 2013 is (Re-re) SET & going INDOORS!

June 11, 2013 – 12:30 PM

The 2013 MIFL "Independence Bowl" for the Duke Mitchell Championship Trophy will be played INDOORS at the FREESTATE SPORTS ARENA in White Marsh Maryland (Just north of Balto.), THIS SATURDAY, June 15th, 2013.  It's the #1 Seeded NORTH PHILLY HURRICANES Vs. the #3 Seeded BUCKS COUNTY BRONCOS!

After some MUCH-APPRECIATED hustle by Paul Wright of the Kensington JOKERZ organization AND Mark Lavelle, Director of the Lighthouse Center, for a possible OUTDOOR venue in Philadephia, another appropriate option cropped up at the 11th hour.  MANY Thanks to Paul and Mark...we look forward to the TOYS FOR TOTS Game being at Lighthouse Field as we get closer to the Christmas/Holiday season.

With that, Leauge Officials, Team Officers and The Delmar BAYRIDERS' Shane Wooten helped to get the Major INDOOR Football League's Championship Game to be played INDOORS!

That has been the goal all along...to play our Indoor/Arena-Stye of Football INDOORS.  And, with one Indoor option fizzling recently, this latest option was made possible in a hurry with some additional much-appreciated hustle.  Many thanks to all who were involved in helping the MIFL get to that "next level" ...INDOORS... just as we desire for our players!

WEEK 2 in the MIFL ... Verrrrry Innnnteresting!

March 24, 2013

Seems that there may be some parity bubbling up to the surface after Week Two of the 2013 MIFL Season!  With just 20% of the season in the books, it looks like it WILL be a slug-fest for the 4 Playoff Spots, as all the teams seem to be SOLID.

IN GAME #1:  The Delmarva BAYRIDERS travelled to The Lighthouse Center in PHI to play the Kensington JOKERZ.  Seems that they were keyed and fired for a good game, as were the JOKERZ.  The Bayriders are a good & improving team, and so are the Jokerz!

This was a good match-up that featured a good game which resulted in a CLOSEscore!

The FINAL:  BAYRIDERS (1-1) 26 - JOKERZ (0-2) 24

IN GAME #2: The Bucks County BRONCOS were the visiting team as they took the short trip down I-95 to meet up with The North Philly HURRICANES.  Here again, two good teams duked it out all game.  And, as happens, one team ended up pulling ahead in the end.

Here, too, neither of these teams will want to sit out the post-season and both have the ability to be in the thick of it.

The FINAL: BRONCOS (1-0) 36 - HURRICANES (1-1) 6

This coming weekend is the EASTER MIFL League-Wide "Bye" ... NO MIFL Games.  Enjoy the Off Time.

And, REMEMBER:  ALL MATCHING UNIFORMS (Helmets, Jerseys & Pants) from Week 3 (April 6th) on for ALL PLAYERS.

He who does NOT match 100% of those 3 items DOES NOT PLAY until/unless he does. PERIOD.

2013 MIFL "KICKOFF SATURDAY" ... Put it in the books!

March 17, 2013

MIFL 2013 ... Week #1 is HISTORY.

After some bumps, burps, and "Opening Day Jitters," the results are in!

No. Philly HURRICANES 30 ... DelMarva BAYRIDERS 24

Steel City STAMPEDE 33 ... Kensington JOKERZ 12

Bucks County BRONCOS ... -BYE-

And, the great news is that, along with NO major injuries, neither of the games was a one-sided blow-out!    Just a 6-point differential down in DelMar MD., and up to about 3-4 minutes to go, it was a ONE-SCORE Game in Bethlehem!

Once again, the MIFL is all about positive growth and forward movement EVERY DAY ... EVERY WEEK!

We will ALL work to maintain a level of professionalism AT ALL TIMES and IN ALL PLACES & CIRCUMSTANCES. Is The MIFL perfect?  No.  Nothing is. But, by going after perfection, with no let-up, we will all be in a position to catch greatness...to achieve excellence. And, that's what it's all about.

Up next:  WEEK #2!

MIFL "-BYE-" weeks O P E N / A V A I L B L E ... for Non-League Games

March 7, 2013

The official word just came from the PennOhio League's WESTERN PA WILDCATZ that they are not able to participate in an anticipated "One & One" Non-League game scenario during our season. (One at THEIR place and One game at one of OUR Teams' home field)

WILDCATZ owner, John Reay, and MIFL Commissioner John Theillon had been efforting on a way to make this happen.  The latest development is that as of March 6th, the 'CATZ will be part of a Spring/Summer Outdoor league and, as a result, will not be available during the MIFL Regular Season (3/16 - 6/1).

With that in mind, should any "-BYE-" week opportunities arise for a Non-League game, please contact either MIFL Commissioner (John Theillon) or MIFL President (Rio Prisco) at once.  At that point, plans can be solidified FOR such a game, should the logistics be workable.

ANY/ALL SUCH "-BYE-" WEEK GAME OPPORTUNITIES MUST ... MUST ... MUST BE CLEARED THROUGH THE MIFL COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE BEFORE BEING SCHEDULED OR PLAYED.

EXAMPLE In liew of a BYE, the Bucks County BRONCOS are playing a Non-League Game in Week #1 at the Maryland PITBULLS.

With any questions OR any/all possible Non-League Game Opportunities, you can contact the MIFL Commissioner's Office any of the following ways:

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...HUGE NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THE PFL/6!

December 27, 2005 – 08:15 AM

(Dec., 2012)
Back in late 2005, after the first-EVER season of (then) 6-Man Semi-Pro Football, in PA, people started taking serious notice of this "new" brand of Full-Contact, Minor League, Semi-Pro Football!

Earlier in 2005, there were jeers, sneers, chuckles and smart remarks like, "Let me know when you guys play some REAL football...then we'll talk." As it all played out, many of these same "critics" became fans, friends and....Players, Coaches and Team Owners!

And..........that's how it all began.

FACT: If it weren't for the PFL/6 blazing a trail back in '05, there'd be NO M.I.F.L. today!

With that, here is one of the First-EVER Website Posts from the (then) PFL/6 as it gained NATIONAL RECOGNITION! Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
