Dragons End 4 Year Run on High Note
The 14U Mokena Dragons ended their 4 year run by winning the Orland Park Magic Tournament. After taking the sting out of the once potent Yellow Jacket Team 7-2, the Dragons came from behind 4-1 to Top the Triple Threat Ambush 5-4. The game was filled with outstanding hitting and defense by the Dragons. With a season marred with injuries and rain, the Dragons were able to ultimately overcome it all and walk off as the true Champions they are.
The Dragons are a 1 team organization which takes a team at 11U and plays for 4 years. This Dragon Team was the 3rd generation and finished their 4 year run with numerous 1st place finishes as well as a number of top 4 finishes. Good Luck to all of the Dragons as they start their High School Experience.
Dragons feeling injury bug
The Mokena Dragons are feeling the loss of 2 of their key players and need to get back to their winning ways. The Dragons suffered a 10 inning loss in their opening Tournament of the year to get eliminated and followed with a tough 5-4 Mother's Day loss. This week is a key as the Dragons begin a 3 game home stretch against some good divisional teams.
Dragons ready to kickoff season at Sparks
After a long Spring, the Dragons will look to kick off their Season at the Sparks in Orland Park on Saturday. This is going to be a challange being the first game against a really good team, but the Dragons will be up for the challange. Go Dragons!
Dragons Fired up for 2014
The 14U Mokena Dragons are back and as strong as ever going into the 2014 Season. The Dragons lost 3 8th graders to High School, but picked up 3 quality players to fill the void. If the first hitting practice showed anything, it showed the team is ready to continue its dominance of the local area teams. Coming off a franchise best 45-10-1 season with zero losses to area teams will no doubt be difficult to improve upon. However, if this team continues to grow and improve as it has in the past, the 2014 Dragons may eclipse their own record. Go Dragons!

Dragons Fire gets Hotter! Capture 1st Place at Wisconsin Dells Slugfest
The Mokena Dragons ended their season playing the best ball in franchise history by winning the 19 team Wisconsin Dells Slugfest and ending their season on a 12 game win streak. The Dragons started out the tournament by beating their cross town rival LW Vipers 7-4, and concluded the tournament by beating the Midlothian Braves 5-4 for first place. The win over the Vipers was nice because it guaranteed the Dragons zero losses to any of the Lincoln Way area teams in 2013. At the 14U level next year, the Dragons are the team to beat. Who can argue that with a team that went 45-10-1 and won 1st place in 3 Tournaments in 2013. Go Dragons!
Dragons capture 1st place in I-80 Division, hit 40 win mark
The Mokena Dragons fresh off a 1st place finish in the Shorewood Tournament added yet another trophy to their collection by clinching 1st place in their I-80 Division with a victory over the Hinsdale Reddogs Wednesday night. The Dragons accomplished a number of feats in 2013 including winning a couple tournaments, winning 1st place in their division and setting a franchise record with 40 wins. The Dragons look to improve on those numbers by winning their season finale tournament in the Wisconsin Dells. The Dragons will be equally tough next year and are already being looked at as the team to beat in 2014.
Dragons Roll to another Championship
The Mokena Dragon's continue to play well and earned 1st place in the Troy Titans tournament in Shorewood by defeating St. Joes 13-1. Mokena overcame a terrible call in the first game which saw their #4 hitter get ejected when a throw by the other team caused the First Baseman to come off of the bag and collide with the Mokena baserunner. The home team umpires ruled the runner caused the contact. The ejection was early in the game and also caused an automatic out the remainder of the game. "Last year, with 3 minutes remaining in a timed game, the home team umpires would not allow us to bat and we lost by 1 run. We came back here this year for payback and to take home the hardware we left behind last year." Even with the ejection, the umpires could not generate enough runs for the host team to over come the Dragons tough pitching and defense.
Dragons up end yet another Blue Demon Team, take #1 seed at Troy Tournament
This time it was the Oak Forest Blue Demons who felt the Mokena Dragon's fire in a 10-4 defeat. After starting out slowly, the Dragons put it away late and earned the #1 seed going into the elimination rounds on Sunday in the Troy Titans Tournament. The Dragons still reeling with the news their star player will be out for the Season did not let that deter them from getting the job done. "We felt Brett's presence at the last 2 games gave us the lift we needed to get to 3-0 in bracket play. He has a way of bringing energy to the team even when he is not playing" Coach Steve was quoted as saying.
Dragons start out 4th July Tournament with a BANG!
The Mokena Dragons took the first game of the Troy Titans tournament 16-0 over the host team. The Dragons came together as a team after hearing the previous night that their star player would be out for the season due to a concussion. This game was for Brett, no doubt about it. The team wanted to be sure he had some good news to wake up to on Thursday morning and they did just that.
Time runs out on Dragons
The Mokena Dragons were timed out of the Bennie Newsome Tournament trailing 10-9 as the 1:45 minute time limit expired. After rallying back to within a run and the top of the order due up in the 7th inning, the game was called. This is a game that if played to its duration would have been very interesting. The Sparks are a very good team, but we felt we were in pretty good shape with the top of our lineup coming up and hitting so well. The Dragons dismantled the Downers Grove Teal in the opener 6-3 in a game that featured a rare triple play. This was a tough ending to a tournament the Dragons felt was theirs for the taking.....
Dragons knock out Blue Demons, advance in Bennie Newsome
The Mokena Dragons knocked the LW Blue Demons out of the Bennie Newsome Tournament with several late inning blows and won 7-5. The Dragons were still rallying for more when the game was called for time in the bottom of the 6th. After a few early inning jitters, the Dragons settled down and started playing what they refer to as "Dragonball". "We knew we were the better team coming in, but you still have to prove it game in and game out. We were without one of our top players(vacation) and for the team to step up and win this game clearly shows we are the best TEAM in the area.", Coach Steve was quoted as saying. The Blue Demons join their sister team on the long list of LW area teams that have not beat the Dragons in 2013.
Dragons notch 30th win, move to 1st place in I-80 divison with win over Chargers
The Dragons traveled to Burbank for a division showdown with the Illinois Chargers. Both teams were tied for 1st place going into the game and afterwards, the Dragons stood alone. After playing argubly their worst game of the year a couple weeks earler in a 8-1 loss to the same team, the Dragons were out to prove who was #1. The Dragons started out the game with a 3-0 lead and never trailed winning 7-3. Last year, record wise we were tied for 1st place in our I-80 division and took 2nd based on head to head play with St Joes. This year we were determined to take 1st place and with a few games left, we are right where we want to be.
Dragons quest to be the best continues...
The Mokena Dragons kept their win streak alive against the local competition with a 6-4 win Tuesday night against the Frankfort Force. It was a tightly contested game with the Dragons coming out on top as they usually do. The Dragons were trailing by 2 runs going into the bottom of the 6th before rallying for 4 runs and closing out the Force in the 7th for a 6-4 victory. The Dragons have not lost in 2013 to a number of Lincoln Way Area teams including the LW Blue Demons, LW Yellow Jackets, LW Vipors, New Lenox Rebels, Mokena Blaze and Frankfort Force. The Dragons gear up for Division rival Illinois Chargers next week before traveling to Orland Park to compete in the Bennie Newsome Tournament. Go Dragons!
Dragons take Sting out of Yellow Jackets
The Mokena Dragons played the LW Yellow Jackets again Monday night and again it was the same result. After beating the Yellow Jackets 2-1 in a tournament victory Friday night, the Dragons beat them again in an I-80 league game 12-3. The kids really felt they let them off easy Friday night and were determined to show what they could do. The bats came back after a 3 game break and it was easy sailing over a team that use to give the Dragons problems. "We are out to show that we are the best team in the LW District and these games moved us a few steps closer in that direction. We don't expect to beat all of the LW area teams every game, but it is kind of nice to say you have not lost to any of them." Coach Steve was quoted as saying.
Dragons Cooled off by Tournament Champion winner Sparks
The Dragons fresh off 3 slaughter wins in the Oak Lawn Tournament ran into a team a little bit warmer then they were. The Dragons had the Sparks right where they wanted them leading by 2 runs going into the 6th inning, but could not hold on. The Dragons managed to load the bases in the bottom of the 7th before ultimately being retired and falling 11-7 to the Tournament Champion Sparks. In games like these, it comes down to a couple of plays and today the Sparks made them and we didn't. The Dragons get another shot at the Sparks in their next Tournament and look to avenge an earlier 3-1 loss as well as the latest 11-7 defeat.
Dragons getting hot at right time!
The Mokena Dragons really have it going winning their last 5 games by a combined 69-16 score. They have ensured themselves a top 2 seed in their current 16 team tournament and are playing some great team baseball. "The players are really starting to understand the game as a whole a lot better right now and its showing on the scoreboard. I don't think there is another team that is getting the type of contributions we are from players 1-12 on a roster." Coach Steve was quoted as saying.
Dragons go 2-1 over weekend, lay claim to Mokena's best 13U
After stumbling to a 3-1 defeat Friday night, the Dragons got the bats working on Saturday downing the Palos Stampede 16-6 and the LW Vipors 8-2. The Dragons who now stand at 22-4-1 travel to Oak Lawn for a 16 team tournament featuring some of the areas best teams. After going 3-0 this year against the Blue Demons, Blaze, and Vipors, by a combined 23-10 score, the Dragons are quickly being recognized as the towns best team. The players have worked really hard to get here and are confident both at the plate and in the field. Like anything else, if your not getting better, you are getting worse. The Dragons without a doubt are getting better.
Rain Steals New Lenox Tourny from Dragons
The Dragons were on their way to a second consecutive tournament win when rain ruined the parade in New Lenox. With their pitching staff full of innings and having won their first elimination game 13-1, the Dragons were in line for a rematch with the Sparks who they lost 3-1 on a cold Thursday night. Going into elimination round, Dragons were seeded 4th amoung the 13 teams. The second seed Blue Demons were losing 9-7 in the seventh when the rain came and they were basically going to be eliminated. "This was clearly a 2 team race between the Dragons and Sparks", one baseball insider was quoted as saying. The Sparks were the eventual winner by going 2-0, while the Blue Demons backed into 2nd place due to the rain saving play in the seventh inning of their game. The Dragons improved to 20-3-1 and are looking forward to their next tournament and no rain!
Dragons De-rail, but quickly get back on track
The Upper Deck Cougars ended the Dragons win streak on Saturday with a combination of good hitting and poor defensive play by the Dragons. The Cougars jumped on the Dragons 7-1 in the first. The Dragons battled back to make it 8-5 before the Cougars put the game away late.
Sunday was a new day and the Dragons took out their Saturday frustrations on the Downers Grove Teal with an impressive 10-2 win in Downers grove. Pitching and defense, the main stay of the team were back in full force. The Dragons travel to New Lenow next for the annual Memorial Day Tournament.
Dragons Blow late lead, but keep streak going
The Dragons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and led by 1 going into the bottom of the 6th before yeilding a run to allow the Rebels to tie the score. The Rebels never threatened in the 7th and the game was called a tie due to time limit with the top of the Dragons order coming up. Not a solid effort by the Dragons, but a tie on the road is as close to a win as you can get. Defense really struggled for the first time this year and if there was ever a night for the Rebels to pull off an upset, it was tonight...and they nearly did.
The Beat goes on..Dragons stay Hot, run streak to 12 games
Dragons move to 1st place in I-80 division; run win streak to 11
The Mokena Dragons with a victory Tuesday night against the Wildcats ran their record to 16-1 and moved atop the I-80 American League East division. It was a well played game with the Dragons opening up the game 7-0 before winning 7-3. Pitching and defense once again were the key.
Win Streak Reaches 10 games!
The Mokena Dragons extended their win streak to 10 games despite playing subpar baseball Saturday afternoon in Mokena. The Dragons never trailed in either game and were on crusie control despite a late run by the Blaze in the second game. "We were not in sync today" one player was quoted as saying. The Dragons donated a couple of moral victories while taking home the real thing.
Dragons run current Win Streak to 8
The Mokena Dragons fresh off their tournament victory ran their win streak up to 8 games while compiling a 13-1 record. After exhausting their starting pitching over the weekend, "Team Dragon" responded by utilizing 6 pitchers who had combined utilization of 6 innings to defeat 2 divisional opponents by a comfortable margin.
Are the Dragon's on their way to OZ????
Dragons Capture 21 Team ATB Spring Fling
The Mokena Dragons captured the 21 team Aurora Spring Fling to win their first tournament of the year and improve their record to 11-1. Defense was the key with several double plays being turned in the infield. Outstanding outfield play and top notch pitching were to much for the competition to overcome as the Dragons are off to the franchises best record.
Dragons Fire off 2013 Season with a "W"
Behind solid pitching and timely hitting, the Dragons opened up their 2013 Season with a victory over the LW Blue Demons at Dragon Field.
