16U White Mavericks Co-Champions at Double Play Challenge
The 16U Mavericks White Team were the Co-Champions of the Double Play Challenge in Easton, Pa over Memorial Day Weekend after the Championship Game against the Lehigh Valley Patriots Flames was cancelled due to rain.
The Mavericks entered elimination play as the 6th seed after an up and down Saturday in pool play. The girls started Saturday with a game against the Berks County Lady Bears. After trailing most of the game the girls battled back to tie the game at 4-4. However, the Lady Bears bats got hot in the last inning and they scored 5 runs to take the game 9-4. Next up was the Levittown Bulldogs. After jumping out to a 8-0 lead, the Mavericks had to hang on as the Bulldogs battled back to get within one run. The girls battled back with 4 runs in the last inning for a 12-7 win. The final game of the day against Pegasus Softball was cancelled when rains came in the top of the 1st inning.
Sunday matched the 6th seeded Mavericks against the 3rd seeded Paoli Xpress who were undefeated on Saturday in their 3 games. A well played game saw the Mavericks score 1 run in the second and 1 run in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Xpress took advantage of 2 Mavericks errors to tie the score at 2-2. The girls scratched out single runs in the next 2 innings and held on for a 4-2 win. After a long rain delay, the girls took on Elite Softball in the semi-finals. Elite came out strong with 3 runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Mavericks battled back with 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-3 lead. The girls bats stayed hot throughout the game on their way to 14-5 victory and a spot in the Championship game. However, with rain off and on all day and more rain to come, the fields were deemed unplayable and the Championship game was cancelled.

Come join the Montgomery Mavericks for the 7th Annual Melee on the weekend of June 30th and July 1st. The tournament is a USSSA "C" qualifier for the USSSA "C" Nationals in Salisbury, Maryland in July.
The tournament will be held in beautiful Montgomery Park. The Park has bathrooms, a concession stand, plenty of room for teams to warm up and a playground for siblings to hang out!!
This is our 7th year of hosting this tournament and it gets better every year. Nope, the tournament is not for "Gold" or "Elite" or even "A" teams, but we continue to prove that high quality and fun softball can be played at the B/C level and those are the teams we are looking for.
To register for the tournament, you first must register your team with USSSA, as www.usssa.com as a "C" level team. Then you can register for the tournament at the same website. Your check for $450 should be made out to "Montgomery Girls Softball" and can be sent to:
