River Valley League - Suspends Operation For 2011
Having produced over 200 players throughout the 2009 and 2010 seasons, the RVL will suspend its operation for the 2011 summer due to off the field circumstances, but will return again in 2012.
THANK YOU to all those who participated in the RVL this season. A special thank you to all the families and friends who supported our 09' and 10' players! See you in 2012!!

Severe Thunderstorm's Washout The RVL Championship Weekend

Severe Thunderstorm's Washout The RVL Championship Weekend. The city of Dubuque set a rainfall record for the second day in a row -- and today's rain is not over.
At the end of the regular season the top two teams, the Waves and Hawks had an equal record of 17-12. But, the first tie-breaker is based on head-to-head competition, with a 6-4 record against the Hawks, the Waves received the top spot and the RVL Championship.
Our goal as a developmental league is to give college players and coaches, young and old, a platform to build their resume, with hope of landing a Premier Summer League roster spot later in their college career. "It's difficult for a young college player to get the promotion if you are not playing the game," said RVL Owner Shane Schellsmidt. "I beleive by playing against hungry players, if you excel, college coaches have numbers and/or a description of how you handle the daily grind in a summer league...information to tell the Premier Summer League General Managers when they are recruiting."

The 2010 North vs. South contest in Dubuque at Chlapaty Field ended in a 11-6 triumph for the Northern Boys over the Southern Squad. Alex Stedwell (Fish Flies/Univ. of Dubuque) earned the win late in relief. The North pitching staff allowed ten hits and no homers in the seven-inning bout.
Today's game was very one sided through the top of the 5th inning, the South had taken a 6-0 lead, and it looked like the rout was on, similar to 2009. As the North stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning, the scoreboard was very much in favor of the Southern Team, it read 0 Runs, 3 Hits, 1 Error for the North, but in 2 innings of work, which exhausted the Southern defense in a hot climate, the North came alive. After the 6th inning of work the score changed to 11-6 in favor of the North.
This was sparked by an offensive explosion, 11 Runs on 13 Hits for the winners.
Ryan Lanzalotto (Fish Flies/Chesnut Hill) and Matt Rotundo (Waves/Mohawk Valley) were both 2-for-2 to capture Co-Most Valuable Player honors. Each player helped spark the North in their 5th and 6th inning offensive production.
Receiving Player of the Game Votes -
* Brighton, Casey (Fish Flies/SUNY-Plattsburgh)
* Knull, Nick (Hawks/Penn State-Harrisburg)
* Murphy, Brad (Hawks/Manchester)

The new series is tied 1-Game a piece -
2009: South 14, North 3
2010: North 11, South 6
