STANDINGS EXCEL FILE
weekly update 1/6
Well it's tight like I thought. With just 4 days left of regular season competition, we're coming down to the wire and it's very competitive (in a good way).
A few A/B coaches have shared with me their disappointment that only the division winners will qualify for the playoffs. However, I am looking at it that almost all of the A/B levele teams played almost every other team at least once in a mini tournament so...the play in tournament from last year would be overkill. In the years previous to last yera, we had 6-8 teams in the first round but...due to the late Labor day...we needed to have a 2 round playoff rather than 3.
Anyway, the standings excel file hs been updated with an analysis of each division as best as I can do as of today.
Congrats to Baldi for winning the A/B conference division and clinching a playoff spot.
Congrats to Clemente for clinching a finalist spot in the developmenatl level.
THANKS to Jimmy O'Karma and the Vare Elementary Soccer team who will be hosting the 4 team post season developmental festival on Tuesday 11/24.
weekly update 10/30

Soccer training workshop TUESDAY 11/2 at 10th and Bigler (South Philly Super site).

weekly update 10/26
1) MAKE SURE all of your players have on shin guards covered with socks. If you do not have at least 7 players on the field at one time with shin guards on, your team forfeits because they can not play and you need at least 7 players in order to play a game. There is no reason students should be "forgetting" their shin guards and if they do, leave them home.
2) Please continue to report scores of games in a timely manner. Remember that scores not reported by the deadline, results will not count.
3) Standings are attached to ease your viewing in excel format...you can also check the standings every day to see the latest and greatest.
4) REMEMBER TO EXCHANGE ROSTERS....it is an Office of Athletics policy to exchange rosters...all students listed and not crossed off are considered playing and eligible. If a coach reports that they did not receive a roster, the game counts as a forfeit.
Granted..not all coaches will report that but they are permitted to.
5) High School games are pretty much complete now so I think a couple officials who normally do high school games are willing to do middle grades games. Mike Albert will contact Jack Creighton to get their names. We'll see what happens
6) Please be aware...although it is difficult to baby sit and coach at the same time....student behavior, spectator behavior and parent behavior is the responsibility of the coach. Un-sportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Granted, a certain amount of trash talking and frustration will occur but it needs to be diffused right away before it crosses the line.
weekly update
10/8/2009
Things to remember before your first games:
Recall that it is a real possibility that the games this week will not have officials assigned to them. Coaches should officiate either by having the "off coach" officiating OR having both competing coaches officiate together
Please review adapted game rules prior to first game next week
Also, please recognize these policies as adapted by the middle grades athletics supervisory committee during summer of 2009:
school bus pickup times (except mastery and PACS)
review the bus schedule sent to you last week.....Please make every effort to be at your bus pick up location in front of your school at the time requested by Philly Trans. When sharing a bus, 1st pick up is 1:30...2nd pick up is 1:45pm.
exchange of rosters (all schools)
policy 6D states: "Copy of the team's roster minus student’s personal information" MUST be exchanged before each game. If a roster is not exchanged, the game will count as a forfeit. The team not receiving a roster should report this to the committee.
Any players not playing but listed need to be crossed off. Any player's name who appears on roster and is not crossed off is considered playing. By exchanging rosters, the coach is stating “kids are eligible for participation in today's game".
note, numbers do not need to be listed on the roster.
uniforms (all schools)
policy 9A states: All students on all teams MUST HAVE uniforms.
Mandatory =
1) Matching shirts with numbers
(GK does not need a number)
2) Athletic style shorts. No short or long Jeans or Khakis
3) Long socks covering their shin guards
4) Soccer style shin guards
5) Appropriate athletic footwear (see safety)
Preferred =
6) Matching soccer or athletic shorts and socks
7) Soccer style non-metal cleats
Any team playing a game without a minimum mandatory requirements as defined above (1-5), will be given a warning by the league director, chairperson or review committee. Any further game played without uniforms will count as a forfeit and the team may be eliminated from post season competition.
mercy rule (all schools)
policy 9C states:
There will be a mandatory mercy rule of 7 goals. However, coaches should use common sense when competing against lesser quality teams and try not to run up the score.
Mercy rule can be waived by “losing” coach after discussion with his/her team prior to a game beginning.
Coaches should use discretion.
Results reporting (all schools)
Policy 10 states "Results of games should be reported by the winning team, HOME team in the event of a tie OR HOME team of tournaments via email (tcorabi@yahoo.com).
The Reporter should include the teams involved, the score and if the official came or not. Please also give a brief 1-2 sentence evaluation of the official so that the Official assignor can take any appropriate action. Keep in mind that many of the officials are beginners in officiating and/or students in high school and college when making your reports. Both coaches may report scores in order to report player statistics.
Please also provide details if needed for any incidents that the chairperson, the soccer review committee, or Office of Atheltics should take under consideration (such as uniform, eligibility, behavior or sportsmanship concerns).
PLEASE review adapted soccer rules in terms of “issues” where BOTH coaches need to submit a report.
Results must be reported by 12:00pm the following day If a score is not reported on time, the game WILL NOT COUNT IN THE STANDINGS for either team.
Please also review POLICY 5: ETHICS, PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. (all schools)
It is the coach's responsibility to ensure and enforce proper behavior of their players and spectators.
Thanks everyone
9/27/09
Below, information posted concerning pay sheet submission. Does not apply to charter schools.
Also, next date to remember = ROSTER SUBMISSION.
CHANGE TO POLICIES.
EACH COACH WILL SUBMIT THEIR OWN ROSTERS TO THE WEBSITE.
To do so, goto the website, click admin..use the username and password from your email. goto the teams..click roster, submit names
If names are listed, they are from last year. Delete old names and add new players
DUE by Sunday 10/4 AT LEAST 11 players who you know will be eligible come your first game
9/18
1) EH FORMS DUE to Office of Athletics Friday. Please follow the step by step instructions in the policies document in order to ensure prompt approval and remember to use the NEW EH-81 available on our website.
2) I have "finished" the bus requests forms and will submit Friday awaiting a possible change in location and/or date of a couple games involving PACS. Anyone who realizes they don't need a bus, please let me know as soon as possible. Truthfully, for some of you, it would be way easier to walk and/or take Septa if your kids have passes rather than do the school bus thing.
Remember, pick up time is PROMPTLY at 1:45..bus must leave from 1st pickup by 1:55pm. Return pick up is 4:45 in most cases and the 2 away teams are most often sharing a bus unless it is logistically impossible due to location.
3) If anyone from the meeting recorded the names of the coaches from Stetson or Marin, please send me an email with their name and email....they neglected to place that information in the "update coaches information" section of the schedule worksheets.
4) If you forgot, submit a time sheet to Rick Howard for any work done from 9/1 until 9/18. I'll send you a time frame sheet as soon as I get it
September 13, 2009:
schedule
Hello everyone. I just finished updating the website with the schedules. My eyes are blurry. There were a bunch of contradictions...mostly with locations but a couple times with dates. I listed it as best as I could decyfer.
Please click on the "schedule" button on the left hand side of the main page. Please review the schedule for your school and let me know as soon as possible of any mistakes I made
NOTE: A/B schools are listed in 2 divisions. You have to check your regular division AND the city wide division to see all of your games OR do a full schedule search
notes about schedules
Don't pay attention to "home" or "away" only the location. Some schools are listed as "home" only because I had no choice. The other 2 schools were randomly put in unless they were playing the host school.
game times
games times listed are 3:15. If the website says you're getting a referee (not likely right now but we will have a few) then wait to start the game until 3:15. If there is not a referee..the games can begin as soon as the teams are ready to begin (keeping in mind return pick ups are scheduled for 4:45pm)
In many cases, host teams are not able to begin games at 3:15 due to travel time walking to field or dismissal differences. If the game can begin without the host team..begin at 3:15. If the host team needs to do goal/field set up (like in my case) the games should begin by 3:30.
developmental division note
The schedule ended up being un-balanced but like I said to a couple of you already...whatever works for you is fine with me. That said, the schedule (minus any mistakes on my part) is what it is therefore, when it comes to post season play, the top 4 teams with points will still qualify regardless of number of games they played.
A/B divisions note
I realized just today that I accidentally left a set of games off the scheudle worksheet. In every team probably found 1-2 teams they didn't play from the group of 12. Sorry. Just a mistake.
But...every team still plays 4 different tournaments for a total of 8 games vs cross divisional opponents and each team plays their own division 3 days (2 times each = 6 games) so it still works out as a balanced/even schedule (again.. minus mistakes)
LINES
Recall that lines are optional for fields. If lines are not available (for whatever reason), markers should be identified using cones/disks/corner flags etc
