Playoff Format revisited

After carefully re-evaluating the playoff format which was initially the top 5 teams qualifying for playoffs regardless of the division with first place team receiving a bye, the League Office has agreed to terms on proposed deal. Effectively immediately, the top 2 teams in each division at the end of the regular season will get an automatic bid to playoffs. The top team in each division will be awarded the bye week in the first round of playoffs. In addition, there will be two wild card teams that will clinch the playoffs. The two wild card teams will be the two teams with the next best records regardless of the division. Which in terms means there is a posibility that two teams from the same division may qualify for playoffs. Seed 4 will host Wild Card #1. Seed 3 will host Wild Card #2. The winner of 4 vs WC1 will take on Seed 1. The winner of 3 vs WC#2 will take on Seed 2. For more details please contact your manager.
Opening Day around the corner!!

The NABA will be starting their 7th season in South Florida just a few days away. The league office has a few changes this season as we welcome Manager Timbo Luznar and the Biscayne Blue Jays this season. Damon Aiken will be taking over the managerial duties for the Pompano Beach Cubs as Dave Syneider decided to step down. Jason Hernandez has been promoted from interm manager to the head skipper for the Tamarac Rangers. Fermin Colon will be his assistant coach. Also, there will be two divisions this year: East and West. In the East will be the returning Champions Davie Reds, Aventura Dodgers, Carol City Astros, Coral Springs Braves and the Pompano Beach Cubs. The West will consist of the NABA runner-up from last season in the Plantation Phillies, last seasons regular season champs, Miramar Twins, Miami Marlins, Tamarac Rangers and the newly Biscayne Bay Blue Jays. Although there are two divisions, please be advised that the top 5 regardless of your division will qualify for a playoff birth. In week 1, the Miami Marlins and Pompano Beach Cubs will have a bye week and will play a double-header later in the season. The Reds will make their debut since winning the title in a re-match as they host the Phillies in North Community Park at 9am,. The Biscayne Bay Blue Jays will make their NABA debut as they take on the high powered Twins in Pepper Park at 9:30am. The afternoon games will feature the Rangers as they host the Astros in Sunview Park at 1:30pm. In Cypress Park, the Dodgers will take on the Braves at 1:30pm. Look for these 4 teams to make a name for themselves this season as all have spent the off-season acquiring quality players in order to make a run for the playoffs. Play Ball!!
Game 3 Championship-Reds win their first NABA Championship
Reds (13) vs Phillies (12)

The Davie Reds and the Plantation Phillies diplayed what the NABA of South Florida competition is all about in Game 3 of the NABA Championship. The Reds Michael Umpierre and the Phillies ace Derrick Conaster took the hill for their respected teams. The Phillies struck first scoring two runs in the top of the first inning after Conaster helped his cause by hitting a two run double. The Phillies scored another run in the top of the second to take an early 3-0 lead. The Reds answered right back in the bottom frame after a leadoff double by Ismael Santiago followed by Zack Leonetti two run homerun to close the lead to 3-2. The homerun was the second in the series for Leonetti. The Reds tie the scored in the bottom of the third after JJ Corriveau reached base on an throwing error. Corriveau would come around to score two batters later on a wild pitch. In the fourth inning Umpierre ran into trouble by walking the first two hitters. Reds' coach Raul Rivera pulled the trigger and brought in Leonetti for relief. After a pick off at third base to record the first out, Leonetti struck out the next two hitters to get out of the inning. The Reds went on to score a run on the fifth, three runs on the sixth and one more in the seventh to take a 9-3 lead. But the Phillies would respond, scoring two runs on the top of the sixth to bring the score closer to 9-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning and after two outs, the Reds' defense fell apart committing four costly errors which helped the Phillies rally back to take the lead 10-9. Chris Davis came in for relief and was able to record the last out. In the bottom of the eighth Davis would deliver offensively by hitting a homerun to center field to tie the game once again at 10-10. The Phillies took advantage of an error to start the ninth and followed with back to back doubles to take a 12-10 lead. The Phillies were only three outs away from repeating their championship but the Reds wouldn't quit. After one out in the ninth inning Leonetti hit a double to left field. With Leonetti on second base Reds coach and first baseman, Raul Rivera hit a towering 2 run homerun to dead center field to tie the game and sent it into extra innings. HIS FIRST HR OF HIS BASEBALL CAREER!

In the bottom of the 10th, relief pitcher Rodriguez D would load the bases with 3 consecutive BB. The Phillies did a final pitching change bringing in last year's ace Jessy Perez. Perez was unable to find the strikezone and ended up walking Santiago to give the Reds the win and the championship in walk off fashion. Thus giving Rivera and the Reds' organization their first NABA Championship.
