Bearcats shut out Jaguars in inaugural game, 29-0
June 10, 2009 SUMNER — The Grays Harbor Bearcats only had a few days to prepare for Saturday’s game against the King County Jaguars, but the first-year semi-pro football team made the most of it.

The Bearcats picked off three Jaguar passes and dominated play throughout in a 29-0 non-league victory at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

The Grays Harbor club got the chance to face nationally ranked King County when the Jaguars lost a game on their schedule. Originally scheduled as a scrimmage, the game turned into a non-league encounter on Thursday.

“We dominated, but we have a lot of work to do,” Bearcats coach Todd Hoiness said. “This is a good start. Now we know what we have to work on. For our first live outing, this is a good stepping stone.”

Quarterback Alex Todak threw two touchdowns and ran in a 2-point conversion for the Bearcats, whose defense registered a safety and three interceptions on the day.

Aberdeen’s John Favro, a fullback for the Bearcats, scored on a 1-yard run, with Vernon Ford adding a 2-yard touchdown earlier in the game. Todak threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Joe Winther and a 22-yard touchdown to Daunte Barnett.

Hoquiam’s Bryce Ogren kicked one PAT and was credited with two punts inside the Jaguar 5-yard line. The Bearcats’ safety came one play after an Ogren punt was down near the goal line.

Elma’s Robbie Lisle was credited with two interceptions, with Taholah’s Dan Brown adding an interception as well.

The Bearcats next regularly scheduled game will be at the Portland Raiders in a North American Football League Northwest Division contest on June 27.
