Player Spotlight Alexis Brown 2013 - Orlando, Fl
Lexie Brown is ranked as the #1 freshman in Florida by the Florida Insider and ranked by the Jumpoffplus.com as the #9 freshman nationally. Brown is the daughter of former NBA player Dee Brown and led the National Champion Georgia Ice from the point guard spot this summer, a summer where they did not lose a single game. While some local media does not respect Lexie Brown’s game here at the National Insider we definitely do.
NI Question 1: What are your goals for this season individually and for your team?
Lexie: My goals individually are to be more aggressive offensively no matter the opponent and just work on my one on one game. As for the team is to have great chemistry the whole season and make it to the final 4.
NI Question 2: What is the status of your recruiting? What schools are you most interested in? If you already have signed, what are you most excited about that particular school?
Lexie: I guess it’s just getting letters about colleges being interested because I am just a freshman. My favorite colleges have to be Maryland. UConn. Stanford. Boston College. UNC Chapel Hill.
NI Question 3: What NBA player or WNBA player do you think you most play like and why?
Lexie: I don’t really think I play like a specific person, but I strive to play like Diana Taurasi. by being a leader and making big plays.
NI Question 4: What coach or person has had the most influence over your basketball career? How have they enhanced it?
Lexie: Probably my dad he taught he a lot about the game and he’s always there when I need encouragement and when I have questions. This past summer coach Antonio Davis has really showed me another side of basketball. I’ve never had a coach that pushed me the way he did (other than my dad).
NI Question 5: What particular part of your game have you been working on the most to improve? How is that going?
Lexie: Mid-range shooting, over the summer I’ve established myself as a good shooter from the outside. Now I want to be able to shoot from anywhere and be a threat form all around the court.
NI Question 6: Besides Turkey (Because we all like Turkey) what is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving?
Lexie: HAM. Haha
NI Question 7: Lebron, Kobe or Other? Why?
Lexie: Kobe, he has just been such a hard working player. It’s really inspiring to see how he won his 2 championships with Shaq and he didn’t just stop there he pushed himself and set his goal to win another championship and he did.
NI Question 8: What hobby do you have that people in the basketball community would not know about?
Lexie: Im’ a pretty good dancer lol.
NI Question 9: Who is the best player you have ever played against?
Lexie: I played against a ton of girls so much better than me but the player that i really remember playing would be Andraya Carter.
NI Question 10: If you could get any gift for Christmas what would it be? Why?
Lexie: DJ Hero [=
Player Spotlight Diamond DeShields - Norcorss HS

Diamond DeShields is one of the top 2013 players in the country, DeShields dropped 32 points in a victory over Atlanta power Southwest Dekalb last week and isnt settling for just one big win this year. DeShields will be one of the feature players at the Nike TOC in Phoenix this year and someone could possibly could play in the Olympics as her career continues to unfold. We take this opportunity at the National Insider to Spotlight Diamond DeShields.
NI: What are your goals for this season individually and for your team?
DD: My main individual goal this year is to be a great team mate. Being a freshman, many people think that I may need to be babied because I’m not that familiar with the system however, I have enough resources to learn everything I need to know. One of my goals is to be responsible and coachable player and teammate. It’s hard being such a young player on varsity. You have to learn a lot in a very short period of time and I don’t want to let myself down because this has been a dream of mine and I’m finally here. Now it’s up to me to pursue it and stay focused. My team goal definitely is to be a contributing factor in winning the state championship. We have a team full of talented players as well as a team of great coaches and I think this year we a good chance in making that happen.
NI: What is the status of your recruiting? What schools are you most interested in? If you already have signed, what are you most excited about that particular school?
DD: I don’t know anything about my recruiting. I just get a lot of letters and invitations and stuff. I would like to play Division I basketball but I can’t really say I have a favorite Lady’s collegiate team yet. I’m learning more about women’s collegiate basketball. I have just played basketball over the past summer and feel blessed that a lot of my hard work is starting to get recognized .
NI: What NBA player or WNBA player do you think you most play like and why?
DD: I don’t really know. But whoever they are, if they’re tall, athletic, jumps high, has a good inside and outside game I guess I play like them. I don’t think I have ever been compared to a pro ball player before but I’m sure it’s a great feeling to hear people say you play like “so and so” or you remind them of that person
NI: What coach or person has had the most influence over your basketball career? How have they enhanced it?
DD: My mom definitely has had the most influence over my career. She convinced me to continue to play the game of basketball when I was at the point or wanting to quit. She pays for my AAU, drives me to my games, comes to my games, and she is just the greatest mom ever. She doesn’t really know that much about the game but she always has great advice to give me about life that I can carry on the court when I play. She always finds teams with great coaches and she never starts any drama about anything. She’s such a free spirit and has taught me how to not only have a positive attitude but be a young lady at all times.
NI: What particular part of your game have you been working on the most to improve? How is that going?
DD: I have definitely been working to improve my inside game. It’s a big responsibility coming into the Norcross program and being a 6’1 guard. They graduated both of their post players last year and I feel it is a major responsibility to step up ‘Big’ down low. The post skills that I learn now will make me a much more dynamic player all around and at the same time I will be helping my team out. I still consider myself a guard but when we play other teams with good posts I have to step up down low. We, as a team, need to: Rebound. Rebound. Rebound. Tiffany Clarke and Brianna Meeks were the major rebounders last year and now they have graduated, the teams’ obligation is to fill in those gaps.
NI: Besides Turkey (Because we all like Turkey) what is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving?
DD: My favorite dish on Thanksgiving Day??? Ummm…….. let’s see. SWEET POTATO PIE!!! Oooooh Yesssss! It is so good. But I only eat my grandmother’s. It’s just delicious!
NI: Lebron, Kobe or Other? Why?
DD: Lebron. I just love his story and I feel like I have more in common with him in my game. He is a young superstar and has fought trough a lot of diversity in his life, and I can’t help but have a lot of respect for him. He never lost hope and persevered through a lot of obstacles. He’s just a BEAST!
NI: What hobby do you have that people in the basketball community would not know about?
DD: My friends call me a nerd because I love video games and Anime( dragonball z and pokemon). I also like to watch Discovery Channel. When I get older I want to be like the guy on Bizarre Foods and travel the world. That seems like fun to me.
NI: Who is the best player you have ever played against?
DD: Last Tuesday I played against Kayla Lewis. She jumps so high and playing against her allowed me to see some of the areas of my game that I need to work on
NI: If you could get any gift for Christmas what would it be? Why?
DD: If I could get any gift I would wish for everyone involved in my life to be successful and happy. A lot of people may want and new toy or a ipod or something materialistic, but those things don’t last forever and I would rather have happiness in my life and everyone else’s.
