Sox Take Opener
In the much anticipated season opener on Saturday the Sox pulled of a huge win. The NCL championship rematch was not without it's share excitement. The Indians jumped out to an early lead when catcher Matt Jayne hit a two-run shot in the first. But the Sox answered back with three runs in the bottom. Whitesox pitcher Matt Ellis settled in after the homerun and put up 3 strait scoreless innings. The Whitesox didn't stop scoring either. Center fielder Ryan Grooms added a three-run bomb in the third and the sox pushed one more accross in the 4th to gain a 7-2 lead. The Indians pushed back hard scoring two in the 5th but ellis was able to strand the bases loaded with a huge strikeout. The 6th inning started off with a solo shot from the Indians, but it was cancelled out by the heavy rainfall that started right after. The rain wouldn't stop and the game had to be called. But all the rain in the world couldn't dampen the Sox excitement. "It was a huge win that we have been working towards since last season" said catcher John Hutton. and once again manager Steve Rampani commented "Half-wood I'm so excited."
