Newport Seniors Honored
May 22, 2009 The Newport Seniors were honored by their teammates and coaches in a ceremony prior to the game against Redmond. Varsity seniors include Erin Tsutsumoto, Lauren Knapp, Nicole Baumgartner and Kylie Barchenger. Junior Varsity seniors are Nicole Sallee and Sarah Pierce. Newport went on to win the game against Redmond by a score of 3 to 2.

Newport Wins One, Loses One
May 5, 2009 The Knights won big against Garfield 16 to 0 in just four and a half innings of play with Kayla Reynolds earning the win on the 2-hit shutout. All Varsity players saw action during that effort. The story was a bit different against Issaquah on Monday when rain hampered the Knight's efforts and Issaquah took the win in just five innings of play. The Knights have important games coming up with Garfield, Skyline, Eastlake and Redmond.

Triple and Double Trouble for Roosevelt and Ballard
April 23, 2009 The Knights took on Roosevelt Wednesday at Lower Woodland in Seattle and came away with a 9 to 1 win. Jessi Barry went the distance on the mound for the Knights (see picture at right). The other team had to look twice when 5 Newport batters hit doubles (Nicole Baumgartner, Lauren Knapp, Grace Bentson, Erin Tsutsumoto, Jessi Barry). Erin also hit a triple in that game. Nicole, Lauren, Erin and Jessi all had multiple hits for Newport.

In Monday's action at Newport, Kayla Reyolds had a complete game, striking out 10 and giving up only one hit to Ballard. Erin Tsutsumoto was 3 for 3 with another triple, Beka James was 3 for 4 and Kara Reichenbach and Jessi Barry each had multiple hits for the Knights.

Newport has Tough Week Winning 1, Losing 2
April 18, 2009 First came the rain early in the week and then came the injuries of three Newport starters. Redmond edged Newport on Wednesday 4 to 3. Kayla Reynolds pitched 5 innings for the Knights and Jessi Barry pitched 1 inning with catching provided by Sarah Pierce, replacing Lauren Knapp who suffered a strained hamstring in last Saturday's game against Eisenhower. Jessi Barry had a 2RBI double for the Knights. First baseman Ashleigh Pates broke her hand during the 2nd inning of the game. Ashleigh will be out of action for several weeks and the team will miss her great defense.
Newport battled back on Thursday at Newport High School to beat Skyline 5 to 4. Jessi Barry and Kylie Barchenger were both 2 for 3 and Natsumi Ueda added a double for the Knights. Barret Hansen got the start at 1st and Kelle Hansman made her 1st base debut later in the game.
The team missed Natsumi during Friday's game against Eastlake and everyone wishes her a very speedy recovery! Freshmen Sarah Brenden got the start in right field in place of Natsumi. Eastlake scored early and beat the Knights 6 - 0. Erin Tsutsumoto had a to-the-fence double in that game.

Newport Travels to Yakima to Take on Eisenhower
April 11, 2009 Newport's Varsity team traveled out of the rain Saturday to take on Eisenhower of Yakima at the Gateway Complex in Yakima. Newport bats were alive with Beka James, Lauren Knapp and Jessi Barry all earning 3 hits. Erin Tsutsumoto took one all the way to the fence for a triple. Kayla Reynolds and Jessi Barry combined for the pitching effort striking out 12 batters, allowing two hits and no earned runs. Newport went on to win 9 to 2.

Newport Racks Up Wins Against Mt. Si and Sammamish
March 29, 2009 Newport beat Mt. Si and Sammamish in non-league play to bring their season record to 2 and 1. In Friday's game against Sammamish, Jessica Barry was 4 for 4 with 3 doubles. Newport outscored its opponents 10 to 1 (Mt. Si) and 6 to 0 (Sammamish). In the Mt. Si game Kara Reichenbach and Lauren Knapp each had 3 RBIs and Erin Tsutsumoto, Jessi Barry and Beka James each had 3 hits for the Knights. The Junior Varsity team echoed the Varsity team wins and losses losing to Liberty but topping Sammamish and Mt. Si.

Results from Liberty Game
March 23, 2009 The Knights battled Liberty and the constant drizzle on Monday, losing a close game 6 to 4 at home. Kayla Reynolds and Jessie Barry shared the pitching duties for Newport. Erin Tsutsumoto was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs while Beka James went 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs. Nicole Baumgartner, Kayla Reynolds and Kara Reichenbach each had a hit for the Knights in this non-league season opener. The Knights will play at Mt. Si on Thursday (rescheduled from Wed) and are home on Friday against Sammamish.

Scoreboard Goes Up!
March 25, 2009 The new scoreboard was erected on Saturday by a team of fastpitch parents and Booster Club members. A big "Thank you" to all the parents that lent a hand on the scoreboard and at the clinic. The scoreboard represents an important accomplishment for the Booster Club and enhances our school and community. Watch for more field improvements in the near future including a scoring table behind the Varsity backstop.
