2012 Season to Expand to 10 Teams!
The Niagara League is growing! 7 of last years teams are returning, with 3 new teams being added.
Waterford American Legion is the lone non returning team - leaving us after many years in the league. We will certainly miss their competitiveness and comradery. Thanks goes to Darrel Mook for all of his many years of coaching and supporting the league.
The new teams are Uptown Brown's (Matt Beraducci coach), Miller Lite (Brian Dewey),and Dynamite Dan's (Ralph Byerly). Welcome!
The additional teams brings on a new format for both the regular season and playoffs this year. In order to continue to play only one night (Fridays); it was necessary to split the league into 2 divisions; with the returning teams being seeded by last years regular season record. A draft copy is located in the handouts section. Team numbers have not been drawn for yet, but will be done at the next league meeting, April 26th. The playoff draft format is also in the handouts section, and will have all 10 teams making the playoffs, with seeds 1 and 2 receiving a bye to the semi finals. The remaining 8 teams will play single elimination games to earn the berth in the semi finals. This format will be offered for vote at the meeting. Please peruse the schedule and playoff bracket, and contact your manager if there are any questions.
Good luck to all teams for the upcoming year!

St. Joe's Claims Share of State Championship

St. Joe’s Club of the Niagara League was declared Co-Champions in the 2010 ASA of PA Over 35 Modified State Championship tournament held recently in Erie. St. Joe’s shares the championship with PPC Lubricants of Butler/Saxonburg due to a rain shortened tournament. St. Joe’s went 3-1-1 in the tournament. After a first round bye, St. Joe’s opened the tournament with a 5-4 win over Hilltop. After losing a tough 11-10 decision to PPC Lubricants in the winners bracket finals, St. Joe’s went on to defeat the Bonnell Legends 14-3, and PPC 16-1 to force the deciding game. After an hour long rain delay in the championship game, the teams were declared Co-State Champions with the teams tied at 7 in the 6th inning.

The Niagara League is the premier Over 35 True Modified Softball league in Pennsylvania. The league plays on the City of Erie fields, and plays mainly on Friday nights.
The league started in the late 1980's, with Len Hopkins first organizing the league. Bruce Baumann became the league president in the early 1990's. In the late 90's, Bruce went on to start the "Viagara League", now known as the "Codgers", an over 50 softball league, and handed the helm in 1999 over to current Niagara League president Dan Prichard.
The Niagara League became the ISA's (Independent Softball Organization) first modified league in the nation, debuting in 2002. In 2010, the Niagara League became affiliated with the ASA (American Softball Association).
