North Marion closed out the regular season with a win over the Gladstone Gladiators 57-43 Tuesday night at Gladstone High School. The Huskies finish the league season with a disappointing record of 3-7 and finish fifth place in the Tri-Valley Conference. However, the Huskies strong preseason play and the mere toughness of the Tri-Valley Conference make them first in line for an at-large berth. Cutting to the chase, the Huskies have a Play-in Game with the Cowapa #1 seed, the Scappoose Indians.
Going back to Tuesday's win, Sawyer Dady led the Huskies with 28 points, marking the highest individual point total for North Marion all season long. Kyle Martin led the rebounding category with 7.
The Huskies jumped out to a lead in the early goings, and closed out the first period with a slim 16-13 lead over Gladstone. However, the second quarter was a nightmare for North Marion, as they saw their three point lead reverse into a nine point halftime deficit. But the tables turned again in the second half, where the Huskies held Gladstone to just two third quarter points, and outscored the Gladiators 35-12 overall in the final two periods.
North Marion will travel to Scappoose this Saturday for a 7PM play-in game with the Indians. Earlier this season, the Huskies put their top notch basketball on display and knocked off Scappoose by nine. North Marion will get an attempt to reiterate their dominance and move on in the postseason. Some likely playoff opponents following a would-be North Marion victory are Central, North Valley, Phoenix, and Newport. Saturday's contest will be streamed live from Scappoose with more details to come soon.
