Strength & Conditioning
This Winter, long time Norwalk Little League Coach and personal trainer, Kirk Gordon will be offering a basic strength and conditioning training clinic for any interested players in Norwalk Little League. The focus of the class will be on teaching and developing our youth into becoming not just great baseball players but great all around athletes!
Kirk has been coaching with Norwalk little league for the past 7 years and invested countless hours with several of our players from all levels and ages. While there is a continued commitment among our coaches to improve our players with the fundamentals of playing baseball, we can go a little further and enhance their skills from an athletic stand point.
Coach Kirk has developed a small program consisting of the basic technique of running, strengthening the core, conditioning, and strengthening the upper body with incorporating agility drills that are baseball orientated.
This is progressive training and as the kids start to get familiar with the routine, the routine becomes a little more demanding. As a unit the kids set goals during these sessions and at the end of the day they can physically observe their own progress. For example, in August the kids that he has worked with ended the first week completing 100 push-ups Saturday and 100 push-ups/crunches on Sunday totaling 200 push-ups that week, totaling 400 in a month. These push-ups/crunches were done in sets of 10 during a 1 ½ hour training period. By December 2013, the kids were completing 500 push-ups/crunches a week totaling 4,000 in a month. All along, based on the observation of the kids, he gradually increased the set amounts and kept them all aware of the goals which they became committed to obtaining.
