Welcome to the Home of the
    Cambridge Hawks Atom AAA

    Alliance Championship Finalists
The Elgin Middlesex Chiefs were back in town last night for what proved to the final game of the season. The Hawks weren't able to hold them off in a 5-1 loss that ended the championship series, with the Chiefs winning the cup with four wins to our one.

The dream may not have been achieved Hawks, but you've played your hearts out all season long, and you should all be proud. You have once again had a great season and have shown what can be accomplished by playing as a team. You've been a thrill to watch. Thanks for the memories!!!

    Fourth Game Not The Charm
With a bus rented and the boys gathered, it was time to make the long journey to Strathroy to try to tie up the series with Elgin Middlesex. Unfortunately, the Chiefs had other plans and put the hurt on the Hawks with a 6-1 victory, and a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship.

The first period was pretty much a draw as both teams iced the puck a lot trying to sort each other out. No scoring was the result. A quick two-goals-against shift early in the second shook the Hawks and they never really recovered. It wasn't until they were down 3-0 in the third that the Hawks found the net with a pretty goal, but the Chiefs quickly responded with a fourth and it was lights out. Two more Elgin goals rounded out the scoring.

Back to the Galt Arena tonight for game 5. It aint over Hawks. Remember London. They had three games to gather two points and you didn't let it happen. Be strong, be tough and be quick. Best of luck guys!!

    Huge Third Game Victory
Facing a two game deficit, it would be easy for the Cambridge Hawks to roll over and let this series run its coarse, but these Hawks never take the easy route. They were charged up and ready to take on all comers last night and put on another very exciting game of championship hockey.

Falling behind by a goal early in the first, they came right back and tied the game before heading into the second period. The Hawks then took the lead only to relinquish it and head into the third tied at two. We then had a dandy fifteen minutes of hockey.

Both teams were bound and determined to win this one. The speed of the game was incredible to watch. The Hawks took the lead, then the Chiefs tied it. Then the Chiefs took the lead and then the Hawks snatched that away. Just as it seemed that overtime was inevitable, the Hawks crashed the Elgin net, banged away at a loose puck and scored the winner. It was awesome to watch. Thanks for the excitement.

Thursday finds the Hawks back in Strathroy for game 4 and game 5 will be back at Galt Arena for a bit of Friday night fun. Go get 'em Hawks. You now know what the level needs to be and you are able to succeed. Good luck!!!

    Hard-Fought Game Ends In Loss
The Hawks made the long drive to St. Thomas last night for the second game in the best-of-seven series against the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. After a very dissatisfying loss on Saturday, our guys were looking for better results. The Hawks came out charging and were moving the puck very well. Not too long into the game, a beautiful pass out front was driven home and the Hawks had a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the period was scoreless.

Second period play was similar as the Hawks were well organized and playing well. Unfortunately a breakout by the Chiefs led to a goal and the game was knotted. A little later a rebound landed on a Chief stick and it was batted in for a 2-1 Chief lead.

Third period action was intense. Both teams had multple scoring opportunities, but the clock wore down without a change in the score. As the game neared its end, the Chiefs scored a third. Looking defeat squarely in the face, the Hawks pulled their goalie with 2-1/2 minutes to go. They scored. 3-2. Keep it going guys. More attempts were made by the Hawks but to no avail. The Chiefs stole the puck and bagged an empty-netter and the game was over, 4-2 Chiefs.

Quality play out there guys. Keep playing with that kind of intensity and good things will happen. This grueling series is not over yet.

    Chiefs Dominate Opener
It was one of the days. Too bad that it happened to be the first game of the Alliance Championship series. The game started with each team feeling each other out and both were playing well. The speed was fast and the play was end-to-end. At about six minutes into the opening period, the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs opened the scoring. Not much later, a second goal was scored, and the tone of the game had been set.

Two more goals opened the second period, leaving the Hawks trailing 4-0. We finally got one on the board and our guys were still working. The second period ended with us down 4-1 and then the flood gates opened in the third. The Chiefs pumped in 5 goals before the Hawks could respond with a second goal. The final horn sounded with a 9-2 score and it was time to regroup.

The Hawks have worked hard all year long and yesterday's game was a tough one. Put your heads together guys and see what you can come up with. There's still plenty of time left.

    Championship Series Schedule Is Posted

    Couple Of Notes
A practice has been added for Thurday at 5:00 pm. The first game of the championship series has been scheduled for Saturday. Please see the Calendar for details.

Also Please Note: A parent metting has been called for 5:45 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Preston Auditorium.

    Dramatic Overtime Victory Clinches Semis
Wow! Looking for a little Sunday afternoon entertainment? Just head down to the Galt Arena to watch the Atom AAA Hawks. Six games were needed to win six points in the series and the Hawks used the overtime period three times to get it done. But they did it. They beat the London Jr. Knights in the semis to advance to the Alliance Championships against the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs.

Scoring first midway through the opening period, the Hawks were looking good. But they sat back a bit and London pounced. Early in the second the Knights evened it up and were pressing hard. Our Hawks were teetering but they stayed with it. The third period started with a 1-1 tie but London scored again and things were looking dire. Come on Hawks!! Don't quit on me now. Play was fierce, hitting was even harder as both teams wanted this thing badly. The Knights took two penalties and we had a two man advantage and the Hawks tied the game. The third period horn sounded and for the third time we were in overtime. Pause for a throat clearing. Okay boys. Sudden death time. The Hawks seemed to have the upper hand a bit, when suddenly the puck squirted out, our forward fired it top shelf and the game and series was over!! 3-2 HAWKS!!! The huge crowd erupted and the Hawks went crazy. We hope you enjoyed it because you earned every last second of jubilation. Well done!!!

Hawks Force Sixth Game With O/T Win
A nailbiter to the end, the Hawks played the London Jr. Knights to a 0-0 tie in regulation play. An overtime tie was of no value, so the Hawks had 5 minutes to keep their season alive. Halfway through the fourth period the puck found the back of the London net and it was time to return to Cambridge for Sunday's series deciding game 6.

Awesome work Hawks. Bring it again tomorrow!!!!

    Tie One On
You could say that the Hawks came out a bit flat tonight. First period action had Cambridge pinned down in their own end for the most part, and all they could muster was one pretty weak shot on net. Truthfully, they were lucky to finish the first ten minutes down by only one goal.

But you know our boys. It's a long game and I think they just like to string their fans along. Suddenly a bold rush found a Hawk bearing down alone and a fantastic shot tied the game. And not much later , the same Hawk unleashed a rocket that found the top corner and the Hawks were up 2-1. Then the Knights tied it, and then the Hawks went ahead and just before the second period ended, the Knights tied it again.

An early third period behind-the-net passing play ended with a puck bouncing down the Knight netminder's back and in the net. A lead again. Could they hang on. Not this time. The Knights scored a tying goal once again with about 11 minutes left to go. Knowing that a loss sent the Hawks packing, our boys played their hearts out. The third period ended, knotted at four and brought with it a sudden-death five minute overtime. Play was fierce and end-to-end, but nothing changed and the game ended at four all.

Next Saturday is once again do or die and this time, a tie won't help. Bring your full game boys. These Knights have nothing on you. After four games, the goals for and against are only 10-12. At best they are your equal. Show 'em what you've got!!!

    Another Tough Knight
Outplaying the London Jr. Knights for the first period produced no goals. A broken play early in the second and suddenly the Knights were on the board and the Hawks were in trouble. Before they caught their breathe, it was 4-1 London and the outlook was pretty grim.

But the Hawks aren't quitters. With a little over 5 minutes to go in the third, they scored. Moments later they scored again and the game was on. Our Hawks played as best they could, even rang one off the post, but the final horn sounded before the game could be tied and it was London 4, Cambridge 3.

A loss tonight will end an awesome season. A win would tie the series. Your choice Hawks....give it your best shot!!

    Hawks Were A Hit!!
After Saturday's disappointing loss to the London Jr. Knights, the Hawks decided to play their own style of hockey and see what it netted them. Laying on some body and and being much more aggressive, the Hawks didn't allow the Knights any room. With the first period over and a Hawks 1-0 lead, it seemed like a long way to the end but the Hawks were up to the task.

Continued big hits were in order for the scoreless second period. Early in the third, the Hawks found the net again and really set the Knights back on their heels. A third goal dropped the curtain and the series was tied. The series moves back to London next Saturday with a fourth game in Cambridge next Sunday.

    Keep up the momentum Hawks.

Hawks Slip In First Game Of Semis
A five game series doesn't allow for too many mistakes, and falling behind with a 4-0 loss to the London Jr. Knights yesterday would be one of those errors. The Knights scored one goal in each of the first two periods and put the game to rest with two in the third.

Truthfully it was a well fought game , but the Hawks were not able to challenge that often as the London defence held fast in their own end.

This afternoon's game will be pivotal so let's go get 'em Hawks.

We Had A Free Sunday So We'd Better...
Play hockey!! Hey, why not? Nothing else to do, right? Pick up the phone and see if the Oakville Rangers want to come play. And I'll tell you what, exhibition game or not, both teams came ready to play and they put on a fine display of hockey. Our Hawks were able to put one puck in the net per period in this 3-0 victory. Nicely done guys. That was a nice primer for your upcoming series against the London Jr. Knights.

    Hamilton Defeated In Four
One more trip to Hamilton. Hopefully. A win or a tie and we can put the Reps behind us and move on to greener pastures. Down to the Chedoke Arena and its big ice. Just what the doctor ordered. (Unfortunately, doctors have been required as of late with a broken wrist and most recently a sidelining ankle sprain. Get well soon guys. Hawks are a team of seventeen!!)

The Hawks began the game a bit slowly, gripping the stick a bit too tightly, perhaps. As they settled into the groove, they started moving the puck very well, and setting up some great plays around the net. The first period ended before a goal could be scored, but the Hawks were in command. To show what they had, the Hawks popped in two faster than you could blink an eye. Before the second period closed, some nifty powerplay work bagged another and it was 3-0 with fifteen minutes to go.

As seems to be the fashion in Hamilton, when the Reps get down, they get ugly. For most of the game they tried to rule with the body, but our Hawks decided to answer with some of our own. By game's end, the bodies were flying, fists were swinging and the penalty box had a revolving door. Fortunately, it was the Reps who were doing it wrong and our boys left Hamilton having showed them who was boss. A penalty shot capped the evening and delighted the crowd with a beautiful goal and a 4-0 victory.

    Well done Hawks!!!

    One Step Closer
With a one game advantage over Hamilton in the preliminary playoff round, the Hawks had a chance to tighten the noose and get closer to moving on.

A minute and a half into the game and the Hawks were on the board. And they didn't stop there. Before the first period was over they were up 4-0 and it continued into the second. The Hawks didn't allow a goal against until it was 5-0.

By period's end, it was 6-2 and the Hawks eased their way to an impressive 8-3 victory, leaving only one more point needed to advance to the semis.

    Go Hawks Go!!!

    Hawks Get The Job Done
After last Sunday's results, Cambridge Hawk fans were looking to get the second game of the playoffs against the Hamilton Reps under way. It wasn't long before the Hawks had their first scoring chance and everybody breathed a sigh of relief. The Hawks were here to play.

The first period was scoreless but the Hawks were making some great plays and seemed to have the Reps pinned down a bit. Second period action continued in the same way, but a sudden scramble in front of our net made it 1-0, not for us. Hmmm!?! The Hawks didn't even seem to notice however, as only seconds passed before the game was tied. And not much later we had a 2-1 lead. The horn sounded and only 15 minutes remained.

Not wanting to bore their fans, the Hawks allowed an innocent little pass turn into a tying goal and our hearts skipped a beat. As time wore down overtime seemed imminent and not very inviting. A Hawks powerplay opened the door to a few more opportunites, the puck squirted loose and bang, it was in the net. 3-2 us. Yeehaw. A late game breakaway and rebound once again found an open net and the game was over, 4-2 Hawks. Nicely done guys. A couple more like that and we'll be off to bigger and better things!!

The Game Is Three (or four!) Periods Long
The Hawks came out chomping at the bit, ready to take on the Hamilton Reps for the first round of playoffs. Not putting up much of a fight in the last couple of games together, the Hawks might have felt that this was a bit of a walk.

The game started that way too. With a first period lead of 1-0, followed by three more early in the second, the Hawks sat back on their four goal lead and let the Reps come to them. First one goal, then a second, and then by the middle of the third the Reps tied the game at four. This wasn't expected and when the horn sounded after three periods, it was still knotted at four. A quick five minute sudden-death overtime changed nothing and each team won a point towards the "first to six" standings.

The game is three periods long guys. Let's go show 'em what you're really made of on Friday.

On a tougher note, Keegan broke his wrist in today's game and will be sporting a brand new cast. We'll miss your blistering shot from the blueline. Get well soon, buddy!!!

Hawks Finish Season On A High Note
Playing their final game of the season, the Hawks were looking to put another check mark in the win column and add two more points. This was purely for bragging rights and the boys got the job done. An 8-1 thrashing over the Hamilton Reps finished the season and hopefully set the tone for the first round of playoffs against the same team. Well done Hawks.

The win capped an impressive season with a final record of 22 wins, 5 losses and 3 ties for a total of 47 points. That was good for first place in the East and a second place overall.

    Good luck in the playoffs!!!

A Bit Of A Flat Weekend
With first place wrapped up in the East, the Cambridge Hawks decided to take it easy this weekend and not put their best foot forward (that's what you said, right guys?!?). In both games, Saturday against Huron Perth and Sunday against Waterloo, the Hawks had one goal leads that they let slip away. Heavily outshot by Huron Perth, some great goaltending kept them in the game and a late-game powerplay allowed the Hawks to tie the score 2-2. In Waterloo, a hungrier pack of Wolves were able to overcome a 3-2 deficit and sneak by the Hawks 4-3.

It's late in the season and with only one game left, it's time to hunker down and get ready for the playoffs. Good luck Hawks!!

Hawks Make Short Work Of Reps
Two out of the first four shots went in the net and it was all over for the Reps. Before the short first period was over and it was 3-0. Truthfully, it wasn't much of a game. Late nights and young Hawks don't make for great hockey, but the Hawks still put on a bit of a show. The season long passing drills are starting to look wonderful and our guys look pretty sharp.

The second period was a bit of a snoozer with no scoring, but then the Hawks decided to end this one with a couple more in the third. 5-0. Lights out Reps. See you next week.

    Preston Was "Semi" Great
It would be our last chance at the Preston International Hockey Tournament. Having been finalists in the Novice year and semi-finalists last year, the Cambridge Hawks were high on the list of favourites. This time around, we actually had what seemed like a manageable roster of opponents and we were ready to roll.

First up were the West Seneca Wings. They were a known bunch of players but they had not been played against in a while. The Hawks came crashing from the gates and were putting the boots to the Wings but nothing was getting past their netminder. It was a very frustrating start to the game, and as everyone can imagine, suddenly the Wings scored. And scored again. Then the Hawks scored but the Wings answered right back. This was going nowhere and before the game ended, West Seneca rubbed salt in the wound and scored once more to finish ahead 4-1.

This was trouble. You pretty much have to win every game to guarantee moving on. There were a couple of wild card positions but it can be rough securing one of those. It can be done, but you need a shutout. Okay, so now we have a new goal. Two wins with a shutout. Go get ‘em Hawks.

The Clarington Toros were next. Beaten last year, but not without a fight. The Hawks were on a mission and they pinned down the opposition. Leading three to nothing with a minute and a half to go, a shutout was imminent. But the Hawks had two men in the box and the Toros pulled their goalie and bam, they bagged one. 3-1. Oooops. An empty netter put an end to that crap but a 4-1 win was nice but not enough.

So bring on the Mississauga Reps. Just what the doctor ordered but could the shutout be had? The Hawks were on fire and were definitely the hungrier team. A 1-0 lead after the first was good. 3-0 after the second was better and as the minutes wound down, the lead was increased to 5-0. Hawks fans were biting their nails. Never before had a sure win felt anymore nerve wracking. Two minutes left, a sixth goal is scored. Still chewing our nails. 4, 3, 2, and finally the game-ending horn and the shutout was secure. Hawks were headed to the quarters.

York Simcoe Express. Hmmm!?! The Hawks have never had fun with them in the past. Two losses are all we’d mustered against them. But boy if the Hawks didn’t come out ready to play this time. The game was excellent. Both teams were moving the puck well and skating like this was their first game. Suddenly a mishandled slapshot found the puck in the net and the Hawks on the board first. Wow. The pace never faltered. The first period ended 1-0 and so did the second. Third period action was just as fierce. The Express got a lucky bounce and the game was tied. It was bound to happen. The play was just so close. A Hawk grabbed the puck in the corner and shot it from a most unlikely angle, bounced it off the goalie and it fell in the net. 2-1 Hawks. Time ran down, the Express pulled their goalie and the Hawks kept firing at the empty net, missing and having to face off in their own end. It took about six tries and six faceoffs won to finally run out the clock. The Hawks had done it and were semi-bound.

Sunday morning and semi final time at the Preston Igloo. Oh baby it was cold. Bring on the Richmond Hill Stars. Time to rock and roll and the Hawks were up to the task. Another great game was at hand as both teams put on a clinic of what makes this game so entertaining. Great passing, shooting, skating, and awesome goaltending gave the crowd some thrills. For the Hawks, the game was marred by a broken play that led to a breakaway and a goal to give the Stars a 1-0 lead halfway through the game. They tried their very best get it back, but an unfortunate second goal late in the third sealed the deal and ended the hopes of the Hawks.

Congratulations anyway Hawks. As always, you never quit you played as a team. Keep playing like that and you’ll be unstoppable in regular season and playoff play. Good luck!!

    Semi Final Information
Today's 2-1 quarter final victory over York Simcoe Express has paved the way to a semi final berth tomorrow versus the Richmond Hill Stars. Game time is 10:30 am at Karl Homuth Arena.

    Go get 'em Hawks!!

    Hawks Ruffle Brantford Feathers....Again
The Hawks came out flying. For what seemed like the entire first period, they moved the puck around like it was a continuous powerplay. Brantford was struggling and Cambridge was ruling the roost. They just couldn't get it the net. Shot after shot was knocked down and, disappointingly, the first period horn sounded with the score 0-0.

As you could imagine, the second period started to change course. The 99ers started to get with the game, the Hawks experienced some penalty problems and suddenly it was 1-0 bad guys.

As I keep stating, our Hawks never give up. The third period saw the pendulum start to swing back and before you knew it, three unanswered goals were scored and the game ended 3-1 in favour of the Hawks. Nicely done.

Good luck at the Preston International Tournament this weekend boys!!

    Preston Tournament
The Preston Tournament schedule has finally been posted. Check the Calendar section for particulars.

Hawks Clinch East With Win In Steel Town
Looking to show the Hamilton Reps what the Hawks are really made of, Cambridge headed to Hamilton ready to rock. In their last game, the Reps had the Hawks against the ropes, but our guys fought back for an unsatisfying tie. It wasn't to be the same sort of game this time around as the Hawks controlled the play for the majority of the match. A three goal second period put the wraps on a 5-0 shutout, providing the Hawks with their 40th point in the standings, and an untouchable first place in the Eastern division. With five games still to go, that is quite an accomplishment.

    Way to go Hawks!!

Huron Lakers Left In A Fog
It's time for the final grind. Seven games left in the season and seven games to determine where we sit for the playoffs. The first team up after the Christmas break was Huron Perth who have always been a thorn in the side of the Hawks. A win would be most welcome but the first shot on our net lit the red light and it was 1-0 Huron. Doh!! That set our guys back a bit. That's no way to start. And it took a while to regain their composure too, but then it started to click. Late in the first period a two-on-one play ended with a breathtaking tape-to-tape pass and an easy tap in for the tying goal. It was all Hawks from there on out. Four more tallies were bagged before Huron responded with their second goal. A sixth goal sealed the deal for Cambridge. A 6-2 victory for the Hawks and the Lakers were sent off on a long, foggy drive home.

Well done guys. Skating, passing, shooting, and scoring is what it's all about. Keep up the good work.

Burlington Tournament Ends With A Couple of Wins
If you're not moving on, you may as well try to win a couple of games just for bragging rights. As stated before, the Hawks are not quitters and they came ready to battle the North Central Predators. Before long the score was in the Hawks favour and they never looked back. A final tally of 7-4 felt pretty good, thank you very much!!

The final game was against the Lambton Jr. Sting, a regular season rival. It started off as a very wide open game with the puck being moved very well. Scoring chances were had at both ends of the ice, with a slight advantage to the Hawks. The first period ended tied at zero. The second period was all Hawks, who pressured the Sting relentlessly until finally a hard shot produced a glorious rebound that was hammered home, notching the only goal of the game. A one goal lead was all the Hawks needed and they hung on through the third period, until a last ditch Jr. Sting surge came up empty-handed and the final buzzer sounded.

Nice final day guys. Perhaps not the tournament you had hoped for, but not without its highlights.

No Horseshoes In Burlington So Far
The Christmas break is a great time to go mix it up with some different teams at a tournament somewhere. Last year was a great success. This year...not so much. The Hawks have been having some difficulties of late trying to find their stride and the first three games of the Burlington Golden Horseshoe Tournament haven't been much different. Two losses and a tie has been the net result and while they have played some very competitive teams, they were hoping for more.

The first game against the York Simcoe Express had the Hawks pinned down for much of the game against sopme very disciplined play. 3-1 was the final losing score.

The next team up was the Ajax Pickering Raiders who were supposed to be easier than they turned out to be. Heading into the third period down two nothing, the Hawks reached down and pulled some magic out of the hat and really poured it on. The Ajax goalie had to stand on his head to only allow 2 Hawk goals and keep the game tied. The Hawks really looked like their old selves for that period.

The third game of the five game round robin was against the feisty Brampton Battalion. Again the Hawks played a great period and found the game knotted at one after the first. Then.....the wheels fell off. Nothing was working. Pucks bounced over sticks, players ran into each other, you name it, and it just wasn't meant to be. The Battalion capitalized on all opportunities and the game finally ended 5-1.

Don't despair young Hawks. You are a group with great abilities and awesome teamwork. Grab the stick a bit less tightly and let her rip for the next couple of games.

    Kitchener Spoils The Christmas Cheer
It would have been nice to keep the winning streak alive heading through Christmas, but the Kitchener Jr. Rangers had something different in mind. From the drop of the first puck, they seemed to a have a leg up on the Hawks. Scoring first, the Rangers then ran into penalty problems. The Hawks responded with a tying goal but then it was all Rangers for another period.

Down 3-1 heading into the third, the Hawks were set back even further by another marker and it looked like lights out. But the Hawks don't quit that easily. They turned it up a notch and looked liked their old selves. The Rangers were definitely back on their heels but the Hawks were only able to bring the score closer by one. The final buzzer sounded with the Rangers ahead 4-2. Bummer.

Have a great Christmas everybody. Let's bring your game faces to Burlington on the 27th. See you there!! Ho ho ho....

    Hawks Hold Off Lakers
How do you buy a goal around here? The Cambridge Hawks kept crashing the net last night, but even with 37 shots, the most they could muster was one goal per period. Fortunately it was enough to hold off the pesky Huron Perth Lakers, who opened the scoring first as well as scoring last. A final tally of 3-2 Hawks was the end result which puts two points on the charts as the season starts to wind down. Can't ask for much more than that.

All told, the Hawks were moving the puck well, with great positional play in the opposing end. Shots from the point were tipped and rebounds were well handled. Keep up the good work guys. It will pay dividends soon.

Sun County Hits Turbulent Weather In Cambridge
Sun County probably wish they had stayed home for a couple of reasons yesterday. The worst snow storm of the year left many of them stranded in the area, but worse than that, the Cambridge Hawks stopped their recent winning ways.

The first period was played quite closely to the chest with neither team showing what they had. Sun County started the scoring with a sudden flash and the period ended 1-0 Panthers.

The Hawks came alive in the second and scored three goals to the Panther's one to carry a lead into the final period. Before long, Sun County tied up the game and the battle was on. The Hawks were doing all the right things however, passing the puck well, and creating many opportunities in front of the net. A quick two-on-one rush resulted in a beautiful tip in goal and a Hawk lead. A fifth goal soon followed and the game was in hand. Sun County tried to make it interesting late in the game by pulling their goalie with a Hawk in the penalty box. They scored to bring it within one, but the clock ran out before they could try again. Final 5-4 Hawks. Well done guys.

    Burlington Tournament
The schedule for the Burlington Tournament is now posted. Please see the Calendar Section for times and places. Remember, this is a preliminary schedule so please confirm dates and times prior to December 27.

    Good Game, Good Win
After a two week layoff, the Hawks were back at it yesterday, facing their Brantford rivals for the third time. After a couple of miscues, the scoreboard was sorted out and the game was on. It took a couple of shifts to blow the cobwebs off but soon the Hawks were up to form.

A scoreless first period rolled into the second where the Hawks turned up the heat. A quick goal was what they needed and what they got. Not too much longer and it was 2-0. The Hawks never let the game get close and held the 99'ers in their end for much of the game.

A third period goal sealed the deal and it was time for another week off. Don't relax too much guys. The last ten games of the season are upon you and it is crunch time!!

    Hawks Split Weekend
It's never easy anymore. What you think may be the easier teams can bite you just as hard as the more difficult ones. Travel to Windsor for a weekend of hockey for, what on paper seem like four easy points and come home with only two. Certainly not the worst case, but not what we had hoped for. Truth be told, the Hawks have played a ton of hockey lately and the upcoming two week break may be just what the doctor ordered.

It wasn't all bad, mind you. The Hawks faced off against the Windsor Spitfires first and they skated hard, hit hard and played very well. Never behind in the match, the Hawks fought to a 4-2 win and put Windsor aside for the rest of the season.

The Sun County Panther game on Sunday wasn't a whole lot different. The Hawks scored early and seemed in control. Outchancing the Panthers, they just weren't able to find the back of the net while Sun County made the most of their opportunities. The Hawks were behind late in the third and tied the game at four with only a minute or two left. A last second rush by the Panthers was successful and they scored the winning goal with only 6 seconds remaining.

Take a break guys and rest your weary legs. It's been a very busy and successful run.

    Night Hawks Struggle
The Cambridge Hawks wouldn't consider night games as their favourites and Thursday night was an example. This was the first meeting against the Hamilton Reps and to be fair, the Reps came ready to play and the Hawks looked uncomfortable. A couple of mis-Q's found the Hawks down 2-0 by the end of the second period.

Hawks don't generally quit however and the third period was all Cambridge. They finally clawed their way back to a 2-2 score and even bagged a third that, for some unknown reason - as the above photo shows, was disallowed. Nice try guys and thanks for not giving up!!

Huron Perth Spoils An Otherwise Great Weekend
Coming off a huge win over the London Knights the Hawks were back on the road to face the Huron Perth Lakers for the first of four meetings this year. Games in the past have always been a bit feisty and this one started out much the same. The quick first period ended with the Hawks up 2-0 and it looked like this one was drawing its own conclusion. Problem was that nobody informed the Lakers of this decision and before the second period was over, they had stormed back to a 3-2 lead.

The third period looked a bit frantic and our guys looked a bit like they had been to the Parent Party the night before. Things weren't clicking and the legs looked a bit heavy. The Hawks were able to tie the game but then Huron quickly responded to go ahead 4-3. Late in the game, the ref was looking elsewhere and didn't notice that we had scored a game-tying goal. It was waved off and while he fetched the puck from inside the net, he tried to explain himself. To no avail. The Lakers scored an empty-netter and the Hawks' ten season game win streak came to an end.

Get some rest Hawks and we'll get fired up all over again!!

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts.......Can't Lose !!
To beat the London Jr. Knights requires the team to be working on all cylinders. The boys got stoked up on the bus. The coaches were stirring the fire and the Hawks came charging onto the ice. Within what seemed like moments, the score was 2-0.........for the Knights!! Doh.

The coaching staff had other plans though. The Hawks weren't done just yet. Hit those Knights like you mean it and see what they're made of. Seems like they found the chink in the armour because before the end of the second period, the Hawks had tied the game at two, and the Knights were starting to look over their shoulders.

In the third period, the Hawks were relentless. Touch the puck and receive a hit for your troubles was the new motto. The Knights did not like this style and were faltering. Suddenly a rush and a pass from the corner found a lone shooter in front of the Knight goal. Slamming it home, the Hawks were up 3-2. Hold on boys, only a couple of minutes left. They did and the Hawks had their first win over the Knights, 3-2.

Awesome game guys. You showed a lot of heart.

    Hawks Keep 99'ers At Bay
Sometimes all it takes is one player to change the face of a game and this time it was the Brantford netminder. Standing on his head, he almost held the 99'ers in for at least a tie, but a powerplay goal late in the third period was enough to seal the deal in a 3-2 victory for the Hawks.

The Hawks played well for most of the game and at times pressed so hard that it seemed a goal was inevitable. They cycled the puck really well, shot when appropriate, and devastated the opposition with some bone-crushing hits. In the end, a win was a win and sometimes that's all that really matters.

Good job and good luck this weekend.

    Hawks Soar To The Top
Three wins in three tries this weekend has blasted the Hawks to the top of the heap in the standings. A 4-1 victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Monday night completed the three play.

The Hawks were on their game as they controlled the play for much of the game. Their stick work, fast turns and great passing befuddled the Rangers and never allowed them to get close. A 2-0 lead after the first period followed by a early goal in the second took the wind from the Ranger sails and it was never much of a contest after that.

    Great weekend of hockey guys!!

Lambton All Buzz And No Sting
Lambton has always been a bit of a thorn in the side so it is nice to get the second game out the way. They definitely came to play in the first period but they never got an advantage. The first period was a scoreless affair.

The second period was a different story. The Hawks wanted to win this one and turned it up a notch. They skated and passed and made great plays. They were only able to get one goal but it won them a period.

Third period action slowed for a bit and the Sting got on the board but then it was all Hawks again. Two more goals finished Lambton and the game. 3-1 and another tally in the win column.

    Good weekend.

    Cambridge Hawks On The Chiefs
Coming off a great weekend of hockey in Chicago, the Hawks needed to carry the momentum into London where they faced the much improved Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. In their last matchup, the Chiefs had the upper hand and claimed a 3-1 victory. This time, the Hawks came out ready to rock and roll and before long bagged a rebound to take a 1-0 lead. The action was fast and furious but the first period horn sounded before either team could score again.

Second period action had the Chiefs with a bit of an advantage. They scored early and kept pressing. Good goaltending and a bit of luck kept the score even at one until the period ended.

A tie would have been a welcome result. The third period was not providing either side with an advantage. As time wore on the
Hawks slowly started to reel in the Chiefs. With about 4 minutes to go a shot from the point got redirected and the Hawks were ahead. The Chiefs weren't done yet though. They desperately tried to empty their net for the extra man, but they couldn't get the puck over the centre line. A late penalty against them all but ended their chances and the game ended 2-1 Hawks.

    Great game Hawks!!

Chicago Dreams Come To An End
The Hawks needed to win to move on. A loss in this tournament put you in peril and our Hawks were playing very well. Unfortunately, the next team up were the Middlesex Islanders from the Boston area. They came out in the first period and were very fast. Controlling the game, they had Hawks chasing them around, but fortunately, good D and good goaltending kept the first period to a 1-0 defecit.

The Hawks started to gather it together a bit in the second and make a game of it. The two teams were playing on an equal level from there on out, but the Islanders had the upper hand in scoring. They scored four more in the last two periods plus an empty-netter against two goals from the Hawks. The final was 6-2.

Excellent tournament Hawks. This was a gathering of some of the finest teams on the continent and you played at your highest level. A 3-1 record is very respectable.

    Hurricane Warning Ended
The Hawks eased through their morning game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The scoring was a bit one-sided with nine goals being scored by Cambridge versus zero by Carolina.

This afternoon's game against Middlesex will probably detrmine if we can move on. A win and we're in and a loss will not be good. Good luck gentleman!!

Hawks Are All Aces Against Green Bay Gamblers
You pretty much need to win all four games to move on in Chicago and so far the Hawks are two for two. Green Bay was playing their first game so some feared they might have more legs come the end of the game, but the Hawks kept score out of reach as they glided to a 4-1 victory. Well done guys. Get a good sleep for tomorrow"s two games!!

    Hawks Roast Detroit Honeybaked
Three shifts in and was 1-0 Hawks. Beautiful start to a massive tournament in Chicago. Before the first period ended it was 4-1 Hawks over the Detroit Honeybaked team that beat us last year. Our Hawks were moving really well and things were happening.

The game ended 7-3 Hawks which is what they needed. Great game guys!!

Hawks Blank Rangers For Two Straight Shutouts
Night games aren't usually a favorite Hawks pasttime and the first period against the Kitchener Jr. Rangers seemed a bit sluggish. Play was pretty even at both ends and the quick first period ended knotted at 0-0.

The Hawks started to really pick up some steam in the second however, and really started to press. They thwarted most Ranger attempts to clear their end and began moving the puck really well. Finally a tic tac toe play ended with the puck buried in the Ranger goal. Hawk time had arrived. Next up was a breakaway slap shot that any goalie would have moved away from. The twine bulged and it was 2 zip.

Third period saw the same sort of action. Kitchener was never able to get anything started and the Hawks passing was crisp and precise. Two more tallies and it was time for bed. 4-0 Hawks.

Let's carry this momentum down to Chicago and show them Yanks what this game is all abnout.

Wolves' Bark Is Worse Than Their Bite
The Waterloo Wolves arrived in town today, ready for some bear. They came out swinging, with many solid hits that finally woke up the bleary eyed Hawks. It was about mid-game before the Hawks responded, but respond they did. A couple of quick breakaways seemed to turn the tide and suddenly we had a game on our hands. Action was back and forth and very fast. Few whistles made it quite entertaining. At the end of two periods, it was goose eggs for each team.

Third period action saw the Hawks start to take control. A fast breakout resulted in a beautiful tip in and the Hawks were on the board. It was what they needed. Another rifle shot found the top corner and a empty-netter sealed the deal. 3-0 was the final and it was time for a rest. Great game Hawks.

Hawks Back In The Win Column
After a victory-free weekend, the Atom AAA Hawks were looking to find a win and find some goals. Brantford seemed like the perfect venue. One problem though; Brantford was winning 1-0 by the end of the first period. Nice plan, poor execution.

Second period saw a turn around however. The puck never seemed to leave the 99'ers end as the Hawks fired shot after shot and finally bagged two to head into the third up 2-1.

The Hawks were relentless and kept crashing the net in the final period and ultimately scored four more. Some sloppiness allowed a couple of Brantford breakouts amd they scored a few as well, with the game ending Hawks 6, Brantford 4.

    Nice game guys!!

    Titans Prove To Be Tough
The Toronto Titans were the final opponents in what proved to be a difficult weekend for the Cambridge Hawks. The Titans, who were going home after this game as well, seemed a bit hungrier and played a bit tougher and scored five goals to the Hawks zero.

The Hawks had trouble finding the net all weekend and will no doubt regroup and get back to a winning form. Best of luck guys. You know you're capable.

    Awesome Hawk Effort
What do you need for a great hockey game? Great goaltending, great defence, great offence and a bit of luck. Oh, and a couple of goals. The Hawks came up a bit shy in the goal department in an otherwise great game against the Detroit Compuware team, a team that has been making fools of the rest of their opposition. End-to-end action was the name of the game and the Hawks played them head-to-head in the 2-0 loss.

    Nicely done boys!!

    Tough Run At Oktoberfest
The Cambridge Hawks are having a difficult time at the Oktoberfest Tournament with a couple of losses in as many games.

First up were the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs who have always been feisty. Both teams took to the ice and played very well for two periods. The score was knotted at 1-1 before the break for a flood. Unfortunately, the Hawks reappeared a bit flat and allowed the Chiefs to bag a couple in the third and hold on for a 3-1 win.

Next up were the Peterborough Petes, whom the Hawks have never played before. Like most teams, the Petes have a couple of movers and shakers on their squad, and they were good. It seemed to take a bit of focus away from getting the rest of the job done as the Hawks allowed the Petes to score one goal per period. The game ended 3-0 and left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth.

Good luck in the remaining games Hawks!!

    Windsor Sent Home Spitting Mad
Okay, so we asked for some entertainment, but we got a little more than we bargained for when the Windsor Spitfires came to town. From the drop of the puck until their last vehicle left the parking lot we had a very boistrous crowd on our hands. And to make matters worse, our Hawks worked them over pretty well, even though the scoreboard didn't show it. By the middle of the game it was only 2-2 but the play had been in the Spitfire half of the ice most of the time.

Finally the Hawks wore them down, started finding the net and eventually bagged five unanswered goals to put a fork in this one and call it done. 7-2 was the final score but the antics continued on with a post-horn scrum in the corner and rowdy parents at the door. Go home Windsor!!

Wolves Given The Boot In 8-4 Pounding
Saturday delivered the Hawks to Waterloo and after a rest and a regroup from the game the night before, the Hawks took to the ice with renewed vigor. Their last meeting had Cambridge playing to a 3-3 come-from-behind tie that didn't satisfy. Barely a minute into the game and it was 1-0 Hawks. Cha ching. That's better. Moments later and it was 2-0 and before the period ended, the Hawks were up 3-0.

Second period duldrums seemed to bore the Hawks and they let the Waterloo Wolves back into the game. They clawed back to 3-2 before the Hawks found the back of the net again. Period over and the score was 4-2.

The third period was all Hawks again. The blasted the net for four more goals. Some sloppy clearing work allowed a couple Waterloo goals, but it ended 8-4 and it felt a whole lot better.

Not A Good Knight For Hawks
The game started slowly. Both teams feeling each other out. It wasn't long before the scoreless first period was over. The second period was much the same. But then the game took a dramatic turn. The London Knights had two in the box when a broken play sprung a lone Knight on a breakaway and it was 1-0 for the bad guys. You could feel the wind leave the sails. The period ended with only one goal on the board, but you could see the Knights mounting their charge. They scored two quick ones in the third and it was lights out. The Hawks didn't quit and eventually scored one of their own but it was quickly answered by a fourth Knight goal and the game ended. Next time, perhaps?!?

Jake B. - the Hawks send their best wishes and hope for your speedy return from the arm injury.

Chiefs Fight Hard But Hawks Victorious
THe Elgin Middlesex Chiefs arrived with a revitalized team this year and came out playing strong. The Cambridge Hawks were ready and waiting however, and seemed to have the upper hand for the first period. A shot from the point was redirected and the Hawks were on the board first. Not much later, a rebounding puck was shoved in the net and it was 2-0. The first period ended and Hawks fans were enthused.

Elgin had other plans though. They started to rally and finally scored one of their own. They started to dominate the play and carried this momentum into the third period. Hawks were hanging on for dear life, getting outshot quite handily. Goaltending was at its best however, and the final horn sounded with the Hawks squeaking out a 2-1 victory.

Get ready for a busy upcoming weekend Hawks fans!!

Hard Hitting Hawks Rock The Rangers
If you're going to spend Sunday afternoon in the arena, you might be looking for some entertainment. The Hawks and Rangers put on quite a show of hockey yesterday and it was a pleasure to watch. The Hawks came out with a very physical game, which woke up the Rangers, perhaps allowing them to score a goal. It wasn't long before a lazer shot put the Hawks on the board and tied the game.

The Hawks continued their physical domination into the second period and before the 15 minutes had run its course, the score was raised to 2-2. But the Hawks were taking control in the third and it showed with two more unanswered goals. They banged away at Ranger bodies, sending them packing with a reminder that they had been in a game. 4-2 Hawks. Nicely done!!

Too Many Penalties Lead To Sour Outcome
You always know when you're playing in Cambridge because the refs seem to think they have to favour the visiting team. Catch a break yesterday? Not on your life.

The end result is that the Hawks played a man short for a good chunk of the game and it showed. The lines were broken up and the play was a bit sloppy. Not that good things didn't happen, but just not often enough. Each time they scored, the Waterloo Wolves replied within moments, and then they actually pulled ahead.

Fortunately, falling behind doesn't phase our guys and they were able to even the score near the end. The final horn sounded at 3-3 and another point was added to the season.

Shake it off guys and get ready for the next one.

Lambton Sting Get Stung In Season Opener
The puck dropped on a new season Sunday morning after a long, dreary drive. The Lambton Sting came out hitting and unfortunately for them, it only served to wake up the Hawks. Fast skating was quickly joined by some solid hits of our own and the Sting were set back. The Hawks soon started to control the game and before long, it was 1-0 in our favour. Next thing you knew, the Sting ran into some penalty problems, the Hawks scored two more goals, and the outcome was settled.

A third period goal helped Lambton gather some momentum but they were not able to overcome our guys. Heavily outshot, the Sting surrendered to a 3-1 Hawk victory. Excellent start to the season guys!!

Another Close Game With The Bulldogs
The exhibition season drew to a close with a close fought, evenly matched game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Both teams played very well, with a late-game goal giving the Dogs a 4-3 win.

The next game is for real Hawks. Best of luck this season!!

    A Couple Of Interesting Games
Hockey is a contact sport, and the Cambridge Hawks got a taste of some real hitting on Saturday. Two games were played to round out a three game weekend and first up were the Oakville Rangers.

The Hawks scored two quick goals and it looked like they were in for some fun. Then the Rangers awoke and decided to lay on some body and before you knew it they had a 3-2 lead. In the third period, the Hawks tied the game but a flukey bounce found the puck in our net to spoil an otherwise close, tough fought game. Rangers 4-3.

The next team up were the Central Ontario Wolves. They play a very physical game compared to the Hawks speed game. Today, physical won. The Wolves banged and bashed our guys and took a bit of fun out of the affair. The scoreboard only showed a 2-0 difference, but it was enough.

It was a good weekend of hockey overall. The competition was very strong and our results were very satisfactory. Well done guys.

    Oh Sweet Revenge
Okay, so it wasn't the semi-finals but it sure felt good to take a game from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who spoiled some tournament hopes last year.

The game started a bit slowly, but the Hawks started to get a feel for the big, hard-hitting Toronto team. Slowly but surely, they reeled them in and scored a goal before the end of the first. Another goal was added in the second. Third period action was quick and fun to watch. A mid-period goal by the Canadiens tightened it up but the Hawks were excellent defensively and never allowed another strike. An empty-netter clinched it, 3-1 Hawks, and the series was tied.

    A Solid Start
With both teams barely having any practice under their belts, the Hamilton Bulldogs and the new Atom AAA Hawks took to the ice for a little exhibition fun. Well as much fun as a bunch of revved up, snarlin' 10 year old hockey players can have. It was only minutes before a kid from each team had been ejected from the game.

Once past the early rough stuff, both teams settled down to some pretty entertaining hockey. The puck was being moved well and lots of scoring chances were had.

Ultimately the Bulldogs scored 5 to the Hawk's 3, but it was a close game and great to see everybody back in the saddle.

    Great start Hawks.

Monday Night Now An Exhibition Game
Monday night's practice has been changed to an exhibition game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Please have the players at the arena by 5:45 pm.

    Let The Fun Begin
Lace 'em up boys, it's time to play some hockey.
