General Information The New York City Metro Baseball League is a Non-Profit 501c3 Organization, and adult amateur baseball league. The NYCMBL is a strictly wood bat only league that prides itself on playing according to the old-time rules and traditions of America's Pastime. Additionally, the NYCMBL strives to be an educational resource through the game of baseball to its communities. The league provides some of the best high school and public park playing fields throughout the different boroughs in New York City. The NYCMBL accepts players of all skill levels who would like to play in a highly competitive environment and give back to their community through leadership development, mentorship and volunteerism throughout the season. The NYCMBL through fundraising, sponsorships and donations strives to bring the game of baseball to those who otherwise may not be able to showcase their talents because of various life or financial hardships. The league also offers an All-Star Game, two rounds of playoffs with a best 2 out of 3 format, and a championship series in best 3 out of 5 format. In 2007, the NYCMBL will develop programs to be fully engaged in "bridging communities through baseball".
THE NYCMBL FORMALLY ANNOUNCES THE FORMATION OF THENYCMBL AA DIVISION.
The NYCMBL will embark on a new chapter in 2008 by providing what will be one of the MOST competitive, wood-bat divisions in men's amateur baseball in the NYC area. Teams competing in this division will be comprised heavily of current, and former college level ball players, as well as semi-pro ball players. Well established, strong, competative teams from around the NYC area have already committed to being apart of the NYCMBL AA, and more continue to inquire.
What the NYCMBL has achieved in it's short history is astounding, and people want to be apart of it. As the NYCMBL continues to grow, and players of all levels continue to enter the league, it became apparent that in order to truly serve the baseball community in the NYC area, the league needed to ensure that it can provide baseball to players of all levels. With the new format, no matter what division your team is in, you are assured to be playing in well managed, competitive games on great fields the entire season.
Together with the strong organization provided in the NYCMBL, along with it's principals rooted in community service and good, clean fun on the baseball diamond, the NYCMBL will surely continue to rise as one of the elite leagues in NYC.
If you would like more information regarding the AA division, or would like to contact the league because you would like to place a team in either of the league's competitive A & AA divisions, feel free to email or call a league director today. NYC Metros Take a HUGE Step Forward at Florida World Series
Jupiter, FL -The NYC Metros participated in NABA's Florida World Series over Veteran's Day Weekend, and perhaps had their best showing in any tournament ever. The Florida World Series, in it's 2nd year, featured some of the best teams from other NABA leagues around the country, that would prove to be the biggest challenge yet for the Metros.
Unlike 2006, where the team was banged up, and could barely keep their head above water, this year's team was ready to go from the start, and it showed in the way they came out and played the very first game of the tournament against the New Jersey Clippers. The Clippers, a first place team in NABA's Raritan (NJ) League, was no easy first game draw for the Metros, and an indication of what was to come. The Metros not phased by the tough schedule, came right out of the game to take and hold a 3-0 lead for the majority of the game. But a little bit of bad luck bit the Metros when starting pitcher, Avram Doomchin, suffered a pulled calf muscle in the bottom of the 9th. This appeared to be the deciding factor in this now 3-2 game, as the momentum had now shifted in the Clippers favor. With 2 men on base, the Clippers hit a short single barely clearing the infield which proved to be the winning hit as 2 runs scored, giving the Clippers the 4 to 3 victory. The Metros were dejected after having the game in their hands, but they also knew there was more baseball to play, and that they did.
Their next game was against Rey's Pizza Miami, who would eventually go on to win the tournament. Rey's Pizza featured a roster of current pros playing the minor leagues at many levels, and former pros as well. The Metros had the daunting task of facing Rey's Pizza starting pitcher, Eddie Oropesa (who was later voted tournament MVP,) who has pitched for the Phillies, D-Backs, and Padres most recently in 2004, and with the AAA Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs) in 2005. Rey's Pizza also featured first baseman, Jorge Toca, who played with the Mets from 1999-2001, and most recently played for the AAA Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox.) The Metros proved to be over matched in this game and took the opportunity to play on the field with pros as an experience they will never forget. After the game, the Metros also had the chance to talk to, and take pictures with Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez who was on hand watching the game, as many of his personal friends played for Rey's Pizza.
Again, proving how tough of a schedule the Metros had, their next game was again the 2006 champions, the Caribbean Tigres. Pitcher Johnathan Velasquez kept the Metros in the game against this team that also featured current and past minor leaguers. A couple costly errors would prove to be the difference as the Metros went down 7-0 in this game. This was the toughest game for the Tigres at this point in the tournament as they had won their first 2 games by an average of over 10 runs each game. Although without a victory at this point, the Metros still proved that they will not go down without a fight.
In game 4, the Metros took on a team from Northern Florida called the Texas Rangers. This was a hard faught game that see-sawed back and forth the whole game. Both teams saw leads evaporate, especially the Metros who had a 4 run lead going into the top of the 9th. But in the bottom of the 9th, the Metros refused to take another loss, and battled to take their first World Series Tournament victory 12-11. Metros players George Collazo, Bobby Meyers, and Rich Rivera all played a pivotal role in securing this victory.
Going into Game 5, the Metros believe it or not were not entirely out of the playoff race, as 1 other team was 1 and 3, and the Nassau Yankees, their next opponent were 2 and 2. Rey's Pizza, the Tigres, and the Clippers had already secured playoff births, but there was still one spot left which the Yankees would've been able to secure with a victory over the Metros. The Metros only chance was to win this game, but they also needed to win 15 runs in order to overtake the Yankees and Bandits in the runs against column, should there be a 3 way tie, with all the teams at 2 and 3. The Metros, fresh off their first victory, showed the Yankees that they were there to play. The Metros quickly took a 4 run lead in the first inning and they did not let up the rest of the game, scoring a minumum of 3 runs per innings. The Metros would eventually go on to a win this game 14-1, falling just short of securing a playoff birth.
After a slow start, the Metros showed that they would not give up and play this tournament to end. Playing against current and former pros, the odds were against this team from the start, but they valiantly stepped up to the challenge, and proved that they could play with any other team there, just missing the playoffs by a matter of 2 runs. The Metros also await the final NABA National team rankings for 2007, as their performance in Florida, may have assured the Metros a spot in the national top 10 for the first time in Metros history.
The Metros now look to build and continue their success in future tournaments in 2008, in Atlantic City, New York City (NYCMBL/NABA Firecracker Tournament), Washington and Florida, poised to bring home their first of many tournament titles. But the next stop on this Metros ride, Las Vegas, Feb 16th-18th.

LATIN FLAVOR VS NY/LI ROUGH RIDERS
GAMES 1 & 2 - SEPTEMBER 22, 2007 - ROBERTO CLEMENTE STATE PARK GAME 3 - 3:30PM - OCTOBER 1, 2007 - KEYSPAN PARK
The matchup is set. In one corner is a team that dominated its conference and division and has always been the favorite to win. In the other corner are the underdogs that scratched into the playoffs and then rolled over all the playoff teams. You have:
Rough Riders vs. Latin Flavor for the 2007 NYCMBL Championship featuring a game at KEYSPAN PARK!
The Rough Riders, probably the hottest team in the NYCMBL right now shocked the entire Brooklyn / Queens Conference by barely sneaking into the playoffs as the 6th seed, to now being the team with home field advantage in 2007 Championship Series. The Rough Riders, who havn't lost a game yet in the playoffs hope to take the momentum they've built over the last month, and take it to the team who had the best record in the league. Although that maybe a daunting task, playoff victories again Brooklyn / Queens powerhouses like the Blue Sox, Warriors and last year's champion Brooklyn Knights have surely prepared this underdog to face what will be their biggest test of the season in the Latin Flavor.
The Latin Flavor has clinched a playoff berth what seemed like months ago. They matched up against the A's who were the runnerups in the Championship Series last year. Flavor faced off with them after a first round bye. The A's put up a great fight but were eliminated by the powerhouse Flavor. Flavor then faced off against the Red Sox. This was a most anticipated matchup and although the games were close, the Flavor came up on top twice to gain the sweep and advance to the Championship. The A-Train Adam Barrick pitched both games and proved his domination and why he is a cy young nominee in the Manhattan/Bronx division. The Latin Flavor look to take their great pitching and power hitting into the Championship Series and take it all. Can they do it?
Here is the schedule:
Latin Flavor vs. Rough Riders - Monday 10/1. Game 3 KEYSPAN PARK 3:30PM.
Rough Riders vs. Latin Flavor - Tuesday 10/2 Game 4 (if necessary) Time and location TBD.
Latin Flavor vs. Rough Riders - Saturday 10/6 Game 5 (if necessary) Time and location TBD.
The NYCMBL will be crowning a new champion this year!
Night of fun at Keyspan Park September 7, 2007
The NYCMBL players, coaches and umpires went to Keyspan park last night for NYCMBL player appreciation night. It was a fun night had by all who came. The Cyclones won in the 11th inning on the oddest of endings a BALK! with a runner on 3rd to score the winning run. With the win the Cyclones won their division and look to move into playoffs. Everyone who attended had a great time. Its rumored one league official even scored a date with the mascot. Evidence by the picture.

Brooklyn/ Queens All-Stars Win Thriller in 2nd Annual NYCMBL All-Star Game July 1, 2007
Picture by Anthony Pardo Story by Yenifer Nunez
The Brooklyn and Queens All-Stars earned home field advantage for their conference in stellar fashion.A steal of home plate in the top of the 8th inning would be the difference in an 8-7 victory over the Manhattan and Bronx All-Stars in the NYCMBL’s second annual All-Star Game at RobertoClementeState Park.
The turn out was great as friends, family and fans showed up to support NYCMBL.The All-Star Extravaganza day started with a Home Run Derby competition with a total of 16 participants.Mike Gulker of the Latin Flavor took home the Derby title, blasting the longest Home Run of the afternoon and setting the table for an exciting evening of baseball.
“This has been just a great day for the organization and all the players,” said NYCMBL Co-Executive Director Joel Marcano.“I think everyone realizes we are on the map now and all the players involved are excited to be a part of something that the whole community has enjoyed. We are still young, but we have made huge strides in little time.”
Shortly after the Home Run Derby the game was under way as two members of each of the 22 NYCMBL teams prepared to take the field. The game would begin with zeros posted through the first two innings until the top of the third. Brooklyn/Queens’s All-Star Ronny Jimenez of the Elmjack Blue Jays hit a ringing single that sent Jeffrey Tamarez of the Pirates home. Roy Moncada of the Williamsburg Warriors followed with an RBI single to give the Brooklyn/Queens a 2-0 lead.
The Manhattan/Bronx All-Stars failed to respond in the bottom of the inning as Brian White of the Mad Dogs led off with a single past a diving Carlos Feliz of the Empire. After stealing second, White, along with Chris Fuentes of the Express were left stranded on first and second.
In the top of the fourth inning, Manhattan/Bronx’s Zamil Fernandez of the Red Sox walked two and struck out three in a scoreless inning to shift the momentum. At the bottom of the inning, the Warriors Frank Riveratried to respond to Fernandez’ performance by striking out the first two batters, but after walking Carlos “Big Papi” Mendez of the Red Sox, the Manhattan/Bronx offense woke up.Wilfredo Cruz of the Mad Dog’s pinch ran for Big Papi and would steal second.Jorge Almarante of the Skyscrapers plated Cruz, and Fernandez added an RBI single to even up the game.
The Brooklyn/Queens’ offense was not done for the night. In the top of the fifth, Jimenez hit a single in the gap that allowed Rob Ramos of the Blue Sox to score all the way from first base.Tobin Whitman of the Clippers drove in a run with a stand up double and an error by outfielder Paul Cuevas of the Skyscrapers allowed Brooklyn/Queens to regain the lead 5-2.
In the sixth inning with two outs, Brooklyn/Queens tacked another run as Avram Doomchin of the Clippers connected for an RBI double to increase the lead to 7-2.
The game was not nearly over though. Jose Garcia of the Dinosaurs gave the Manhattan/Bronx All-Stars some hope after he got his first RBI of the game allowing Matthew Ortiz of the Latin Flavor to score.Argenis Rosado of the A’s connected for an RBI single and teammate Brendan Thomas reached first base on an error that allowed Rosado to score and bring the Manhattan/Bronx All-Stars within two.
An inning later, Ortiz reached second base on an error and then stole third base. Cruz walked and the stage was set for the Garcia who tied the game at 7-7 with a two-run double.
Brooklyn/Queens quieted the Manhattan/Bronx rally quickly in top of the eighth inning as the momentum switched for good.Jason Mulero of the Brooklyn Knights took second base on a wild pitch to Tamarez, who followed by ripping a double that would have given the team the lead, but Mulero was thrown out at the plate. The next batter was Jimenez, and with Tamarez on third advancing on the throw home, Tamarez made sure his run counted breaking for the plate during Miguel Sandoval of the NY Knights wind-up, sliding in front of the tag and ultimately sealing the deal for the Brooklyn/Queens All-Stars.
Doomchin would silence the Manhattan/Bronx squad in the bottom of the eight before Mulero closed the door in the ninth inducing a ground out to second by Ortiz with the tying run on base.
“It was a great game and we’re glad to get the win,” said Terrell Wilson of the New York Storm who notched a scoreless inning of relief in the Brooklyn/Queens win.“The contest was a see-saw battle, and it was great how Tamarez came up big.Now this provides a huge advantage for Brooklyn/Queens playoff contenders knowing if they make it all the way, they’ll have that home field.”
The game’s Most Valuable Player award went to Tamarez.Doomchin was the winning pitcher; Sandoval took the loss for Manhattan/Bronx while Mulero recorded the save.
