2009 was a very Special Year for the Oceanside Sailors. Great group of Kids, Great Coaches, and by Far the Best Parents on Long Island. This Team had a special Chemistry. They won together, they Lost together, but most of all they supported each other at all times. Thanks to all For all your support in a Great 2009 Season and lets win it all in 2010. Lets Go Sailors!!!!

    2009 SEASON RECAP
Well Sailors, it's over. Very sad. Baseball's not as easy as some of you Think. Anyway, We had a pretty good season. Single elimination playoff games suck, but that's life. Enough of the rough stuff. Let's get into something good where We'll all (I hope) start to feel pretty good about ourselves. First, Thank You to Coach Andy Morris and Richie Woods For a Wonderful Season and Congratulations one more time for accomplishing your 200th win as Coaches of the Oceanside Sailors, we are very Proud to have been a Part of that accomplishment. Congratulations to the players who won awards today Scott Davis (All County and All County Allstar Game MVP), Andrew Grann (MVP & All County), CJ Palette (All Conference), Mike Montesano (All Division), and Joe Gallub (All Conference). That's something very special that you'll never forget. Now let's get on to our 2009 Season recap which starts with MVP Andrew Grann. Andrew was 7-0-1 with 1 save and had an incredible 6 home-runs and 21 RBI's. His ERA was 0.56 and threw 49 2/3 innings allowing only 4 earned runs. Now that's an MVP. Next, lets talk about Scott Davis. Scott didn't know he was going to play second base until the first game of the season. And what an outstanding job he did. Not only did he play a stellar second base, he also pitched. He was 2-1 throwing 20 innings allowing only 7 earned runs. Scott also led the team with a batting average of .463 BA, 15 RBI's and 6 Doubles. That's sick. That's like getting a hit every other at bat. Next, is CJ Palette. CJ batted .358 with 14 walks and 16 runs scored. He had the other teams very nervous when he got on base. Why, because he ended up scoring. Joe Gallub is next. Joe a Junior, had a wonderful year at the plate. He batted .391, had 25 hits and stole 9 bases. Good luck next year opponents. Next is Mike Montesano. Mike is an excellent team player. He did what a second batter is suppose to do. Sacrafice, hit and run, etc. Besides playing a good first base (nice stretch mike), he also pitched some. He threw 17 2/3 innings, striking out 20 batters and allowing only 4 earned runs (which came in 1 game) and had a record of 1-0 with 1 save. The team would not have been so successful without JD Spergel who just about caught every game. Not only did he call the perfect pitches, he always kept the ball in front of him and threw out something ridiculous like 15 of 17 runners trying to steal. Thanks JD. (from the pitchers) Our lead off batter Chris Flynn (only a sophmore) had 15 walks (i guess he did his job) and 12 runs scored. Chris also played a tight infield either at shortstop or second base. Nick Iadevio (another sophmore) who played a solid rightfield had a good year with 12 hits. Mike Connell, playing all season long with a bad knee cap had 13 hits and 12 big RBI's. Way to go Mike. As for our pitchers, Brian Dershowitz had 21 K's in 19 innings, Dan Frisch, 3-2 had 25 K's in 22 2/3 innings, and Mike Schnitzer had 1 save. AJ Longo pitched well in middle innings. Seniors Mike Weiss, Emanuel Madera and Mike Vocatora had limited roles this year, but when called upon, were very successful. Glad we had you. Juniors, Matt Strandberg, Alex Pallatto, Justin D'Angelo and Joe Totino will be returning next year and I'm sure will have a very successful season. You're good ball players. Sophmore Mike Hertling will also be returning next year and we're looking for a big year from him. Best of luck everyone and remember, baseball is a pastime.
