We have finally just solidified the dates for the OCYS baseball tryouts. They are in chronological order as follows:
Friday February 15th in the gym at Oregon City High School Jackson campus, located at 1306 12th St, Oregon City, OR 97045. For 9 year olds they will be from 6pm - 8pm, and for 10 year olds they will be from 8pm - 10pm. These will be hitting excersises, so please wear gym shoes and bring your hitting gear. Fielding tryouts will be held Saturday February 16th at the Jackson campus football field on the turf, so you may wear cleats as long as they are not steel. They will be from 4pm - 6pm for 9 year olds and from 6pm - 8pm for 10 year olds. Please dress accordingly to the weather!
This year, if you would like to tryout to play on the SR federal team, your tryout will be on Friday Feb 22nd from 6pm - 8:30pm in the auxiliary gym at the Beavercreek Campus of Oregon City High School. The entrance to this gym is located on the southern most parking area by the south end of the track.
The new tryout times for all SR level players, including kids who tried out on Friday night are as follows:
- Saturday Feb 23rd from 4pm - 8pm for all ages on the turf at the Jackson campus, please no steel cleats. On this day, we would like at least one parent of each child to stay for an information meeting put on by the Oregon City High School coaching staff. This meeting will go into more detail about the SR program and parent involvement. It will run approximately 30 minutes.
- Sunday Feb 24th from 10:30am - 1pm for ALL AGES in the main gym at the Jackson Campus.
The Senior Federal team is the highest level of play there is in OCYS. From this team our hope that the kids will migrate smoothly into the Oregon City High School baseball program. This year's Senior Federal coaches are going to be Kirk Bearden and Garret Gibson. Kirk has been coaching in OCYS for many years, and Garret was the High School freshman baseball coach last year. With Garrett on the Senior Federal coaching staff, he will be able to integrate some of the High School baseball coaching philosophies into the OCYS system, making the jump from SR Fed to High School level baseball much easier. We at OCYS welcome this and all of the other help that the High School is giving us to improve our program, after all, there are the current OSAA state baseball champions, and Coach Lord is the 2012 Regional High School coach of the year. Congrats guys!
Some things you can expect if you are selected to the Senior Federal team this year.
- Practice 5 to 6 nights a week before the season starts, field availability and weather permitting
- Some workouts along side the high school teams and their coaching staff
- Games 2 nights a week
- 4 tournaments over the course of the season plus county and state tournaments after our season
- a chance to volunteer for fundraisers with the high school
Coach Lord would like all players who plan on continuing their baseball career at the high school after OCYS to attend the Senior Federal tryout on Friday night. This includes kids who have been playing with Redland and South Clackamas leagues so these boys can get the opportunity to start playing together before they get to high school. I strongly encourage all 8th graders to be there and any 7th graders who feel they can hang with the big boys.
The high school wants to be involved with all teams at the Senior level this year, and years to come. Any 8th graders moving on to high school ball next year will start at out with equal footing, whether they play Federal, American or National this year. If you have any questions regarding this, please send me an email. email@example.com
