Oak Hill in the News

Recently a number of media outlets have taken up the story about the loss of the City's light subsidy to the complex.  The Oak Hill Gazette was the first to print. Subsequent news coverage has come from KEYE and Fox 7. Visit the links below for more informatin.

Music Video Filmed at OHYSA!!

A few weeks ago you may have noticed some activity going on around Pinto field.  It was a music video by the Wheeler Brothers Band being filmed! Look fast and you'll see a couple of our Board members making cameo appearances. This was a great experience for the league, and a lot of fun to be a part of. Thanks to Onion Creek Productions for thinking about us when the idea came up!

PONY Baseball Bat Restrictions

Whether you're new to the league or a Pony returner, you should be aware of equipment restrictions issued by our governing body, PONY. In particular, new baseball bat restrictions may impact any purchasing decisions you make as we head into the new season.

The basics of what you need to know (confirmed with PONY Headquarters today) for playing baseball at OHYSA are:

* You CANNOT use a 2-3/4" barrel bat in ANY league, no exceptions
* You CANNOT use a "Coach Pitch" bat in ANY league, no exceptions
* You CANNOT use a tee ball bat any league EXCEPT Shetland
* 2-5/8" barrel bats can be used in ALL leagues
* ANY 2-5/8" barrel bat with a -3 drop, MUST be BBCOR certified
* 2-1/4" barrel bats can be used in ALL leagues, but must have a BPF of 1.15
* Any NEW 2-1/4" barrel bat must have stamps showing "approved for PONY play," "BPF 1.15," and the date of manufacture

So what should you avoid? Definitely don't buy a "big barrel" 2-3/4" bat, or anything that's labeled "Coach Pitch." And unless you're in Shetland, make sure it's not a tee ball bat. If you've been thinking about moving your kid to a -3, check the bat first, because it HAS to be BBCOR certified - whether you're buying it new, getting it from a friend, or searching at Play It Again. And finally if you're heading out to buy your player a standard baseball bat with a narrow 2-1/4" barrel, check the labels. Make sure it has the appropriate stamps in place.

Remember, these restrictions are new to us all. But by paying attention to what you're getting now, you'll end up saving yourself a big headache - not to mention a big hit to your wallet - in the long run. And as always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask your coach or commissioner.
