The 2006-07 Atom A Orleans Rebels
Rebels Tie Two 2-2!
March 26, 2007
In the second game of the GHA Atom A playoffs and in the second game of the weekend, the Orleans Rebels staged their second comeback in a row to tie their match with the Gloucester Centre Cougars 2-2. The Rebels played very well this contest against the higher ranked Cougars. The boys worked hard, passed well and were often first on the puck. Orleans tallied first at the 4:40 mark of the middle period when Cameron launched a rebound into the yawning cage with assists going to Phil and Brandon on the play. In a heartbreaker, Gloucester Centre would tie things up taking a wild shot on net with only one second to go in the period.
The Cougars went ahead with a bad angle marker at the 10:23 mark of the third frame. A little over a minute later, the Rebels tied the game with a nice shot by Sammy. The action the rest of the way was fierce but no more goals would cross the line and the final score would stand at 2-2.
GREAT GAME REBELS!!!
Rebels Are 67's Experience Champs!!!
March 19, 2007
Congratulations Orleans Rebels! You are the 67's Experience Consolation Champs!!! It was a long weekend of great Atom hockey at the Civic Centre for the OMHA Atom A Orleans Rebels. The boys played hard in every game and with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses in round-robin play, the team advanced to the Consolation Championship game on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier in the day (way earlier, like at 7:30 am), the Rebels staged a great come from behind 5-3 victory versus the Leitrim Hawks A2 squad. Letrim roared out to a 3-1 lead before Orleans kicked it into high gear and scored four straight. The call-ups played HUGE once again as Mathieu scored once, Taylor tallied twice and regular Rebels Dominic and Brandon added the rest. Orleans then faced one of the Ottawa regions very best Atom A teams, the Carleton Place Bulldogs. The Bulldogs sport a regular season record of 23-0 and are blessed with size, speed and skill. The Rebels rose to the challenge and threw everything they had at their foe. Orleans played stride for stride with the Bulldogs and the score was 1-1 at the end of the opening period with the Rebels goal provided by Steven. Penalty trouble finally caught up with our boys as Carleton Place notched a powerplay marker halfway through the final stanza. The Bulldogs added one more before the buzzer but Orleans played perhaps their best game of the season and should be proud of the final 3-1 score.
Third place for the Rebels meant a berth in the Consolation Finals against the Canterbury Spitfires. In a huge character game, Orleans fell behind 2-0 in the opening period but clawed back and scored a massive 3-2 victory with the last goal coming within a minute and a half of the final buzzer. Goalie Stephane made some absolutely stellar saves and the Rebels goals were scored by Mathieu (with 2) and Brandon. Every player on the team played his heart out and showed that they are truly Champions!!!
WAY TO GO REBELS!!!
Luck Runs Out In 2nd Game.
March 17, 2007
This afternoon the Rebels faced a stronger team in the Richmond Royals for the second contest of the 67's Experience Tournament. The Royals drew first blood as Orleans let them walk right in and score at the 18:20 mark of the first frame. Just over four minutes later though, the Rebels tied things up when Cameron jammed in a rebound from a blast by Jarryd. The opening period ended with the teams deadlocked at a goal apiece.
Richmond took control in the second period and scored two in a row by sneaking in behind the Orleans "D". Orleans tried in vain to claw back and Taylor scored at the 2:30 mark with an assist going to Steven on the play. The Rebels pulled their goalie in the dying seconds but could not notch the tying tally. The match ended with the Royals up by a score of 3-2.
