PAL Players Can No Longer Wear Spikes/Cleats at Carter Lake
Due to continued destruction of the turf at Carter Lake, PAL teams will no longer be allowed to wear spikes or cleats at Carter Lake. The first damage occurred on April 21 in right field and center field. Coaches were instructed to talk with their players about not destroying the grass by digging holes or marking lines with their spikes. Similar damage occurred again on May 5.
Our league has been playing games at this complex for nearly a decade, and hundreds of PAL players have been on these fields without ever having an incident like this before. We expect our coaches to have better awareness of their players' behavior and players to act like athletes on the field of play. This has cost our league hundreds of dollars to repair the turf and is disappointing to say the least that we have a team or teams representing our league and schools in this way.
Don't forget to check with the appropriate field contact and then notify the Metro Umpires two hours prior to the game if you have a cancellation due to inclement weather. The updated field contacts spreadsheet has been added under Rules & General Info.
Continue to check your schedules for updates - and make sure parents update their family calendars or printed copies.
Rules & General Information
The Rules & General Info section of the website has been updated with the 2015 PAL Rules and the 2015 PAL Rules at a Glance - a document that covers rules that are unique to our league or are frequent topics of discussion during a pre-game meeting with umpires. Each coach will get a laminated copy of the Rules at a Glance to bring to games.
