I have added the girls' camp dance music to the site (if your speakers are on, you should hear it playing). I have also added the dance video, with music and counts. If they can review the dance and refresh their memory, then they should be able pick it up easily at.

COMPETITION SQUAD
Next Wednesday, October 20 from 6:15-8pm, we will begin Competition practice for the South Garland Showcase Festival to be held on December 5. Here are some things to know before you decide if participating is right for you and your cheerleader:
- We will practice a minimum of twice a week at Carver Elementary (Wednesday and Friday 6-7:30pm) and all practices will be mandatory. After football season ends, we will add a third day of practice (most likely Saturday 10am-12noon).
- Only one missed practice will be allowed, after the second missed practice, the cheerleader will be removed from the squad. Tardiness will not be tolerated. Practice begins when I arrive, and I will not wait.
- If a practice is missed, the cheerleader is responsible for learning any missed material outside of regular practice.
- We are currently discussing joining with another cheer squad to increase our numbers and improve our stunting opportunities which will mean we must purchase new uniforms.
- The total cost for competition will be no more than $95 depending on the chosen uniform, $45 of which is the cost of registration.
- This cost will include competition registration, uniforms, bows, poms, signs and a CD of the music and words for at home practice.
- $45 will be due at the first practice on October 20; the remaining amount will be due at practice on November 3.
- There will be no exceptions to the payment schedule, as routines and formations depend on the number of cheerleaders. Payment must be made in advance to ensure that your cheerleader will be participating.
- We will be learning a 2 1/2 minute dance routine and a 2 minute cheer/chant routine, both will include a lot of stunting.
- Please understand that these practices will push your daughter's skills and abilities, particularly with stunts. At home stretching and practice will be necessary. Please consider whether or not she is ready to make a commitment to try her best at all times.
- Just as with GCDTA, I receive no compensation for the time I put in and this will also require 3+ hours per week of at home work for myself. I expect your cheerleader to put this same amount of time of at home work in each week.
- I will not deal with whining, complaining or arguing in any way. If an issue arises, I will ask the cheerleader to sit out of the rest of practice and a meeting will be necessary to discuss how the issue can be resolved. It is crucial that this not occur to keep all cheerleaders current on the routine.
- I will have assistance from high school cheerleaders who will also require respect from each cheerleader.
- Encouragement and support from each cheerleader to one another will be expected at all times.
- This showcase competition is in no way regulated or administered by the GCDTA organization. All concerns shall be discussed with me.
Here are 2 links of youtube videos from the showcase from 4 years ago. They are a 6th grade team with great tumbling skills, however, they are the only ones I could find for now and will give you an idea of what to expect.

Please review each of the above points with your cheerleader, so she understands what will be expected of her. This will be a lot of work, however, it is greatly outweighed by the personal satisfaction your cheerleader will have when she succeeds individually and as a group and improve her skills and abilities for future cheerleading opportunities. If you have any additional questions, please respond and let me know your concerns. The GCDTA website has posted an information packet if you would like to read more. This year, competition will be held Saturday, December 5 and is hosted by the South Garland HS Southern Belles Drill Team.
