From www.sportsnola.com -

North Caddo High’s Robert Williams and Jasmine Thomas utilized different skill sets.

At 6-foot-8, Williams was a dominant force inside. The 5-8 Thomas was a savvy floor leader.

And they did it well enough to garner identical honors. Williams and Thomas were voted the Outstanding Players on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State team.

Thomas, who led the NCHS girls to a 94-13 record and three state titles over the past three seasons, averaged 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals a game.

LeDoux, Cournoyer missed out on titles but still top Class 1A All-State hoops teams

From www.sportsnola.com -

A story about players who lead their teams to a state title and then grab top postseason honors is not unusual.

But that’s not the story for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A All-State basketball teams. Lafayette Christian’s Kalob LeDoux and Andrea Cournoyer of Merryville did more than enough to net Outstanding Player honors for the duo without winning a title.

LeDoux, a 6-foot-2 senior, led Lafayette Christian to the 1A semifinals with averages of 21 points, five rebounds and two assists. LeDoux helped LCA beat two state champions in higher classifications during the regular season.

Cournoyer proved her scoring average of 32.7 points was anything but a fluke. The 5-7 sophomore broke a 49-year-old Top 28 record by scoring 69 points in two games, including 35 in the title-game loss to Arcadia. She also averaged 5.9 rebounds a game.

Arcadia’s Marcus Jackson and Philip George of Montgomery claimed Coach of the Year honors from a panel of sportswriters from across the state.

Jackson led Arcadia to the first boys basketball title in school history. The 26-5 Hornets upset Lafayette Christian in the semifinals before beating Southern Lab in the title game. George led Montgomery to a 25-7 record and a Top 28 berth just two years after the team won just four games.

LeDoux is joined in the first team by the Arcadia duo of Travious Fielding and Danquarian Fields.
Fielding averaged 16.2 points, six rebounds and three assists a game. Fields also averaged 16.2 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Northwood Lena’s Michael Layssard and LeDoux’s twin Jacob completed the first team. Layssard averaged 24.6 points and 2.6 blocked shots a game, while Jacob LeDoux averaged 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Khelsea Foster of 1A champion Arcadia also helps lead the girls first team. She averaged 12.9 points, 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds a game for the Hornets. Southern Lab’s Cailain Williams, North Central’s Quaniqua Joseph and Montgomery’s Karlee Teddlie completed the first team.

Williams averaged 20 points and eight rebounds for SLHS. Joseph led NCHS to the semifinals with averages of 15.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Teddlie averaged 22 points a game and also led her team to the semifinals.

Southern Lab’s Dexter Dennis (14.0 points per game), Sicily Island’s Devion Dunbar (25.9 ppg), Hamilton Christian’s Kenan Fontenot (16.3 ppg), Lafayette Christian’s Greg Williams (11.0 ppg) and Delhi’s Jaimarkeis Percy (19.0) made up the boys second team.

The success yielded some by honors for the north Louisiana school, courtesy of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

A panel of LSWA writers selected Summerfield senior Nicole Bursey and junior Paul Corbin have been selected as the Outstanding Players, while their veteran coach, Randy Carlisle, was chosen as the Coach of the Year for both teams on the LSWA’s Class C All-State teams.

Bursey, the District 1-C MVP, averaged 14.2 points and 6.6 assists per outing in leading the Summerfield girls to another state title, while Corbin, who sparked the Rebels to their first championship since 2000, averaged 12.8 points, 9.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds per outing this season.

Carlisle, who as a player still owns the national mark for assists in a career, led both teams to Class C titles. The Summerfield girls were 30-1, while the boys finished 22-7.

Two other Summerfield players received all-state recognition. Sophomore Mercedes Coleman (13.9 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game) joined Bursey on the girls’ first team, while Prentiss “Trey” Washington (13 ppg, 6.2 rpg) garnered second-team recognition.
