The Parkland RedHawks Lacrosse program is disappointed to announce that the Parkland City Commission has approved a 90% Residency Rule in its meeting on October 7, for all Parkland Recreational Sports Leagues. This is identical to the rule that has been in place in Coral Springs for quite some time.
With this new rule, which goes into effect immediately, all recreational leagues for 2010, must be comprised of 90% Parkland Residents.
Like all of you who are receiving this we are not pleased with the outcome of the commission and are very well aware that this affects not only first time players but most importantly players that have been with the RedHawks Organization since its inception; unfortunately this is a City rule, and we like all Parkland Sports Leagues, must abide by it.
Since this rule change, the Parkland RedHawks board has initiated conversations with the South Florida Youth Lacrosse League, US Lacrosse, and the City of Coral Springs Parks & Rec department; all of whom have pledged their support for a restart of a Coral Springs Lacrosse organization. We are actively seeking Coral Springs parents to comprise a board and to take the next steps with respect to meetings with the City of Coral Springs and field space allocation.
If you are interested in joining this effort please send an email to hrbocawest@aol.com with "I want to be a part of Coral Springs Lacrosse" in the subject line and with your contact information in the body of the email. We will notify this group of our efforts with respect to a re-start of lacrosse in Coral Springs and will put in place a meeting and next steps for next season...
However with respect to the 2010 Parkland RedHawks program, as of this time we have fully exceeded the number of non-Parkland residents who are eligible to play in 2010 under the new city residency rule. Therefore, if you do not live in Parkland, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP for the Redhawks program. Those that have already signed up, will be notified as to whether they will qualify to play as the Parkland Resident player number increases - as we achieve the City mandated ratio of 10% non-resident and 90% resident.
For those that are "non-Parkland resident players" and have signed up AFTER the first week of September, and would like a full refund now - pulling your child's name from the "out of town" waiting list - please e-mail hrbocawest@aol.com with "Non-Resident Refund" in the subject line and with your contact information in the body of the email and we will forward you a refund within 30 days.
We will continue to update you as this process continues!
